I don't care how busy I am. When Film Riot uploads. I stop what I'm doing.
Yes
Even homework
The same!!!
inglesamericano101 ¡Hola! Estoy apriendo español ahora. Tips?
What if he upload when you are watching a Film Riot video? Will you stop watching it?
Apocalyptic production design always seems like it would be so much fun to work on!
This is like I AM MOTHER on Netflix lol they should pay this guy royalties.
But this one is probably good
@@sporebryan2000 true! I am Mother was visually decent but that's it!
that was genuinely a great show
True
Never really considered having your key crew all read the script but it makes so much sense. I've been to quite a few shoots where the camera guys were all asking 'silly' questions because they had not read the script.
Damn my friend was planning a post-apocalyptic action short film for December, this timing was impeccable
Kevin Schanbacher i was just thinking of one as well lol , almost perfect timing for inspiration
Dude same me and my friends are planning a post apocalyptic short movie this month. Great timing
@yeeeeeeeeeth chill
Tbh the uploads these past months that include these insights from other creators have been what kept me with Film Riot. They give such great and dynamic advice, and they really put you into the situations that filmmakers should be putting themselves into.
This is probably one of the most helpful videos I have watched from you guys in a while. Film Riot is always entertaining, but I feel like pre-production is always one of the hardest humps to get over when making films and having a frame of reference to go off of makes life so much easier. Thank you guys!
Great episode! Thanks for putting it together. Always love hearing from other people and giving them the chance to be heard through your platform.
The robot looks cool!
Z makes me think of a skeleton
Love these types of updates, please keep doing more! Always good to get insight into how others approach things, and to also find new filmmakers to follow
Love hearing other filmmakers processes. Great looking project. You can really see how working in commercials influenced his organization and pre-production process.
Writing a real manual or a sacred text, is the kind of detail that properly builds a post-apocalyptic or scif-fi film. I have seen many sci-fi short films, and the ones that intrigue me the most are those with detail and/or multiple story lines that all build on each other.
very Tolkien esque, it's the invisible and minuscule details that make the authenticity come alive.
Dude, this is perfect! I'm in pre-production of my 40 minute short after doing a few shorts so this is a big jump for me. There's so much to do, it's nice to have a breakdown video like this!
That storyline seems so interesting. I wonder if the film will be available on RUclips?
it is
dust
thanks for reminding us we have reasons to get excited about collaborative filmmaking , and thx for illustrating some of the production steps / structure for making it happen!
I'm so glad that i came across this. I've watched " The Manual", & i totally enjoyed it. So i was even more interested in the explanation from Will, about how this was done. U have come a long way, & i actually thought u did a magnificent job. Well done. 👏👏 Good luck to u in all ur endeavours..!! 👌
Outstanding video on the making of an independent film by the writer/director. Fascinating, beautifully presented and edited. Thanks so much for posting!
This episode was extremely helpful. Thank you Film Riot and will for the insightful look into your process.
These are awesome! I have learned so much from your regular content but it's great to learn from others as well. I hope you keep this going. Cheers!
Loved this style of video and am dying to see this film in any way possible, it looks so good! You guys are my favorite film youtube
I have been waiting for this upload so long YES!!!!
Hey Ryan, absolutely love your show, been watching it for quiet some time. I love this episode Big Time! You just know how to infuse practical tips and hands on experience. And I love what Wil achieved. Keep going! I'll keep watching! Respect!
Loved this video! Cannot wait to watch the whole short film--the visual effects looked extremely professional!
The idea of the guy speaking with the mannerism of the robot is great! Looking foward to see the full short film.
“Filmmaking at its core is such a collaborative art form. I have learned if you know your story well you can embrace the collaboration every step of your production and come out with a film that is better than you imagined. “
The title's a bit misleading
How...?
The title is "Creating an Apocalyptic World", but it's not discussed.
at least here in brazil, this isn't a low budget movie :o
It does a perfectly fine job explaining how to make any environment that includes post apocalyptic scenes
Same it doesn't explain how they do it so well. Green screen? Vfx? Did they blow up a city for real?
Great tips. I love the thought of closing your eyes while reading the script.
A wealth of useful information. Love it. And I look forward to watching The manual.
I have the same background and am now working more and more as a director and I’ve been doubting myself as a filmmaker. So great to hear we can make it through this. (“Because my background is professionally in post-production, I’ve had to discipline myself into getting coverage beyond the edit I have in my mind.”)
That's quite a big bite to chew on by yourself, post produciton wise. Really outstanding job!
This is actually really great, needed to watch this today. We've got two days left on a short film we're making and there's a part of me slowly going a little crazy.
Masterclass' film making pre-roll seems to suit here good =-)
This was awesome! Love the insight, especially when he said "learn to work with others" So true.
No joke this actually goes perfect for a project I️ was working on!
TheGingerAvenger was?
Amazing! Thank you Film Riot! Every video, a new isight for me!
this is brilliant, thanks for putting this out, incredible helpful to others on the journey.
You guys are a great inspiration and school, thanks for being there
Fantastic episode! I grabbed a copy of The Manual. Very well done!
This short film looks amazing can't wait to see it and hopefully it could get made as a full length movie
Reverse Chappie... I like it
awesome, just awesome. Process looks thorough yet economical. Result was awesome. I am most curious on the lighting set ups. Great stuff.
Zoom cuts during interview were jarring.
That was awesome. That actually got my creative thoughts going... Also, That short film looks amazing.
Wow the shots of the short film look amazing!
This guy is awesome! I'm new to this scene but was something I always wanted to do.
Exelent!!! It is super important, to see these steps, they are the right ones for a great cinematographic work
Looks like a terrific short. Thought it was interesting that he said he took on too much in post. Being a one-man show can be hard on your family.
A truly great episode you got here! Thank you
Nice video! That was very insightful. I'm going to use several of these methods when I'll get to make a short.
Thank you so much. It was perfect. Specially the mood boards. it was so helpful for me. please make more interview with indie-low-budget filmmakers.
Very insightful! Looking forward to the short film too!
This was great! absolutely helpful and I’m happy I was able to learn a bit as well
I like that I've grown along with the content of this channel.
What an amazing film idea, and even more amazing advice.
Useful reminders.Thank you.

simple and insightful, thank you !
Dude you are literally doing everything I'm learning and teaching myself the hard way. I wish I knew what you knew. I'm also Limited in software. As I only have HitFilm And Wondershare Filmora which I am most familiar with. Rotoscoping and motion tracking is My biggest issue.
This looks super good!!!! I will definitely check it out!!!
Movie quote reference at end has to be Leviathan. Love me some Peter Weller.
This is awesome! Thanks for this!
Really great episode
Great video, guys!
I met Will at TBUFF last weekend and saw The Manual. It was fantastic and he's a great guy.
At around 6:20 seeing all that after affects work that the director did almost made me want to cry. Those masks are so much work.Good job on busting goes all out yourself Mr. director.
This episode was awesome 😍
A lot of interesting things 👍
Awesome! :D Thanks for this!

Very helpful. Thank you so much!!
This was really insightful!
Love this channel
So cool. Nice job.
The post apocalyptic short film I made was literally about a year ago from today, I did it too soon 😆 Great knowledge in this though, I love seeing Film Riot reach out to filmmakers Ive been watching on Vimeo. DEFINITELY agree with letting someone else do vfx, it takes a lot out of you when you’re a one man band.
inspirational and helpful!
Wow! amazing video! :) really great!!
His post skills are amazing!!
I really enjoy and look forward to Film Rioters (?) in the videos. However, this was absolutely fantastic and don't mind if there's more like it in the future
