    The One Punch Man game had the dope idea to balance a broken character by having One Punch Man have a running timer, and once he shows up he's broken, but you could lose that round if your opponent takes out your other 2 fighters before he shows up.
    I think this adds an amazing depth that can include unbalanced "fun" characters where they would otherwise be holding the game back by forcing a boring meta

      To correct you on the first fighting game to have a super meter. A game called Art of Fighting was the first game to have a super meter.
      And speaking of broken characters they can be fun as along as it isn't only tied to one character and they toned him/her/it down a bit or buff the other characters bringing them on a similar level similar to what SSF2T is.
      Also KOF 95 but that's a different case since the damage scaling in that game is so bad a couple 2 hit normals takes like almost over 25-30% of your health. A special move nearly 30+ a raw super doing almost 50+. ESPECIALLY if u combo thats like 60-65 70% percent gone.💀💀💀

      @R_binMcCall  2 года назад +2

      "wants to have fun instead of learn" I think is an incredibly important thing in the FGC, toeing the line between the two is really difficult. I personally have a really hard time with it but in all honesty I don't really there is such a thing as beginner friendly fighters. The best beginner friendly game is the one the person is interested in if they're really drawn to it they'll naturally want to learn and pick up new systems and mechanics. I think the "6th Grade Guilty Gear" saga is a perfect example of that if you're familiar with it, if not go check out Sajam's videos on it, super cute and fun.
      Edit: wanted to clarify because I said literally earlier in this that Smash and Pokken are good intros. I mean that more for their appeal, having Mario and Pokémon. Compared to other games that try to go for accessibility in execution something like Tough Love Arena would get 1000000% more play if it was Mario Arena or some shit. Which isn't to say that's better its just a good hook to grab people.

    Yeah i agree, playing game specially fighting genre in arcade is something special,
    i used to play fighting game first in arcade, (virtua fighter , tekken) until we have a lot of consoles (n64,ps1,ps2.gamecube even sega etc) and mostly fighting game we have, then when i was elementary gradually our consoles damaged and hardly to read the disc, so i used to play again in arcade and play with some player there since i was play in console i used to play offline (CPU) and i beat up some player there and even have win streak 10+ everytime when i go to arcade,
    i get confident in fighting genre and keep practicing, (tekken) since i don't have a console working anymore that time in elem days, and no knowledge about using pc to do search in yt , i keep practicing with some real player, just trying discover a useful command while a in-game with real player XD, and it didn't take too long that i can even use mokujin and any character, i can say i can use it consistent, but not a pro lol. but i do beat some older player there while i was just a elem, they do even throw a chair to me and shouted because i didn't give mercy after a 2 wins in a row
    then i discovered about the mercy thing giving a another win if you already 2 wins in a row, even the ki-charge means to bad manners? ( i do it but didn't mean to bm but it's cool to do lol ), and when you use a low command about 3 times they called you low spammers, using a normal grab they call you a grabber spammers,
    didn't know they do big deal about that things and kinda it's joke to me because i just play for fun and no hard feelings, and until t7 exist, in arcade they have some arcade t7 that outdated, and online console and steam player can do plugging and even intentionally make the internet speed slow then they're about to lose XDDD BRUHHH
    bad english sorry lol i tried promise :

    DNF is such a shame tbh. Granblue aswell...The reason i have super high expectations for project L is that they are trying to remove ALL barriers to entry rather than tunnel visioning on one and trying to sell a game with basicly no content for full price with a concept like "no motion inputs" wich is good for beginers but 99.9% of gamers have no idea what motion inputs even are.

      Totally agreed. Also with Project L had the luck of it's cast being full of characters people already know and love and Teemo probably. The issue DNF also had was it appealed to fighting game fans only really and the simplified inputs just made pubstomping new people that much easier, I think Project L will have a large enough player base to avoid that because it's grabbing LoL and even just passing Arcane fans who don't want to play a MoBA

    Noticed a lot of unnecessary hate in these comments. I think the video was quite good and fair.
    I posted under someone's else's bad take about it not being a good time to love fighters.
    You have classic games and newish games getting updated with rollback netcode. Some games will be updated or released with cross play functionality. You also have a ton of indie fighters either recently released or soon to be released that look very promising. You also have Fightcade that plays arcade classics online like a dream.
    How could it not be a great time for fighting games when you can literally play tons of older classic games online with great netcode now or get the newest hotness (Strive, Kof 15, Type Lumina). It's literally all a win win.
    Well except for 3d fighters. Besides Tekken 8, there doesn't seem to be much on the horizon for these fighting games unfortunately.

      @@R_binMcCall well that's true yes. Everyone can like or dislike any game or gaming decision/mechanic they so choose. Like with the MV comment and 3d fighters not having much to choose from there are still some issues of course. The scene isn't perfect and probably never will be. However in general the phrasing "it's a great time for fighting games" rings more true now than it ever has. Modern netcode implemented in games that are 20 years, cross play actually becoming a normal thing. Tons of titles to choose from just about every subgenre of fighting games (besides 3d again sorry y'all) and lots more in the pipeline. I just don't know what else more anyone could want right now besides more individual titles being updated with rollback/cross play. In my perfect FGC world, both GBFV and USFIV would receive both Rollback and cross play. Lol screw it, every fighting game that's ever come out needs to receive both. Alas it's not perfect, but my word it's looking good presently and the near future is even brighter. Anyways enough from me, I'll be looking forward to your next video

    In regards to EX moves being divorced from the super meter. That's Granblue. Instead of using the super meter, each move has a separate meter. You can use the move, including the EX version, when it's off cooldown. Using the move normally, the cooldown is fast enough that you can do it again pretty much as soon as you recover, but EXing that move has a longer cooldown meaning you have to sacrifice access to that move completely for a while if you want to use it at its most powerful. Meanwhile, the super is just a super move (until recently) ala SF2. SF6 might be going back to the older way, but you have access to multiple supers instead of just one, so it's still more than just one thing, really.

    Leon Massey at home: _slaps_
    Now, some constructive criticism, because I believe it'd help you grow: you're going for a Leon Massey sort of style of video. It's not bad, I enjoyed your video. You had something to bring to the table that he isn't done yet. You should, however, try and spend less time on things such as infinite combo clips or listening to OSTs without making it at least a bit more dynamic. I listened to this video while doing the dishes and it felt really off when all I could hear was an infinite in HNK. You had a good reason to put these clips and bits of audio in there, but you extended them for too long without doing much about them. You could also use a bit more energy in your voice but that's up to each and everyone's style and taste. Who knows, maybe you're about to fill yet another niche in this community, like Brian F, Bafael and Big Yellow have.

    @ 6:03 Yes, yes we do. There IS a really good reason for that. Genre has a purpose *beyond* arguing about which takes the most "skill." The answer to that will remain subjective until you can find a Mathematician willing to burn a lot of energy on fighting games. For my part, genres are ways of telling what you like so you can find similar games. For example, if i have a freind who likes Street Fighter V, i can recommend GGS to them as a Fighting Game. i've played both and am confident in their similarity. i have also played Multiversus which i would NOT recommend to my freind who likes Street Fighter V because they are *wildly* different games. There is also my point that the creator of something knows best. Sakurai is actually *insulted* when $mash is referred to as a Fighting Game because he was going for something quite different. It was surprising to find that his own fans had no respect for the games *own creator's* opinion. That seemed *really* weird. Then it became obvious because of what was happening then. $mash didn't care about being a fighting game, $mash didn't care about Fighting Games at all. No, it was all about getting to EVO. Thankfully that has been resolved but there are still people who persist in calling Platform Brawlers Fighting Games. Words have a purpose. The only purpose behind $mash calling themselves a Fighting Game was to acquire the same sense of History, Moment and Origin that Fighting Games have which is part of their Magic. It's stealing a reputation so you don't have to build your own. It's kicking in the door to a house party when you don't even like the music but hey, everyone knows the address right? ^^

    • @James-pb8xu
      @James-pb8xu 2 года назад

      nah wrong. platform fighters are absolutely a sub genre within fighting games that are distinct enough to not have a whole bunch of crossover between traditional fighters and such, but it's similar to arena fighters like Gundam VS, Pokken, For Honor, and etc where there are definitely crossover skills, but the gameplay is distinct enough to keep players from cross-pollinating that much. They're still fighting games, but not traditional or falling within a general branch. They're a pocket within the genre.
      With smash, that game was designed as a sandbox styled fighter, where you can play with any number of items on/off, with hazards, special events, metal characters, big characters, invisible characters, and more. It's a party game in one match, and KOF in another, having 3v3 or even 5v5 matches. Sakurai created smash from the marble that was KOF anyway. Spotdodges, Rolls, running, short hop, full hop, and more all came from kof 95 and up (it was said he thrashed pretty hard in kof95). Clearly, the game borrows heavily enough from previous fighters to be within the genre, regardless of a lack of health bar (that can be switched on if needed).
      The community is a different thing, that was based on getting the game recognition for the high level competition that it facilitated, and getting that respect (melee beating out skullgirls for evo was nothing but clear passion for their game). They've always been building their own history and narrative separate from the fgc, and evo was the ticket to legitimacy in the eyes of the genre closest to them.
      Though platform fighters are clearly too different to be regular fighting games, it's extremely clear within one minute that there are enough crossover skills to categorize it within the genre, and people cross pollinate between the sub and main genre.

    • @mikejonesnoreally
      @mikejonesnoreally 2 года назад

      @@James-pb8xu Okay i gotta' stop you as soon as you say "$mash was designed to be a Fighter......" because it was not designed to be a Fighter, it was designed to be NOT like Fighting Games. Again, that's the *designer* saying that. "It's a party game. not a Fighting Game." That's also Sakurai. He felt that Fighting Games leaned too heavily towards execution. So i'm going to take the creator's word for his own work. Also i can get what he means given his experience and it has to be *such* a slap in the face to make the antithesis of something and then have the ignorant masses *label it that thing and then fight for that label because they want to be in EVO.* Which is the reason you don't so much see this debate anymore. $mash has been kicked from EVO, so matter settled. On top of that $mash isn't being made anymore so it also takes it off the casual conversation menu.

    8:18 Okay stop. Seriously just.....god. The *principal* difference is that Arcade games were designed to take your money. Newer games are designed to be ..... *UGH* "Narrative" experiences. (Yeah, all made by people who can't even bother to read the Hero With A Thousand Faces......) and also are made by a Marketing team that knows more about Psychology than they do the actual *game industry.* Some games are *designed* to be easy so as to deliver an easy sense of accomplishment and allow the narrative to *HURK* "flow." Don't even get me started on the "Games as a service" model because......i just can't. Those aren't even games. Telling the difference between them does NOT require a dissertation. It requires having been there and being there now. Easy. @ 11:48 o.o My *god* but that is some Dragon's Crown level spritework right there! Gorgeous! :D @ 13:15 Yeah, i can just never think that way *because* they feel so different. Rumbleverse has FAR more in common with PowerStone, a Platform Brawler or even Final Fight a side scrolling Brawler. Basically "Brawlers" is where i would put games like $mash. Brawl and Fight are two *very* different words. Brawlers can be great games (PowerStone is amazing!) but they *aren't* Fighting Games.@ 13:56 That it *paid* for, let's be clear! It was an "exhibition." Good thing too! The hitboxes weren't even done, they were all egg shaped! It was EVO's first ever "Professional Whack A Mole" *paid exhibition.* As for being "embraced" by the FGC, really? Is that why *90%* of the playerbase went POOF as soon as they realized that it was basically a badly made billboard for WB? I would hope that you AT LEAST RESEARCH your work before making blatantly false claims. Then again anyone who uses the broad brush of "accesible" (Um, yeah i think i or anyone can ACCESS it. DUH.) instead of just saying "easier." *is* foreshadowing a bit. @ 14:40 Also known as stealing their idea because we can and we sure can't think of anything on our own!

    3d fighters are dead outside of tekken

    • @R_binMcCall
      @R_binMcCall  2 года назад +2

      That's actually a fair point I didn’t really consider until now but is absolutely worth talking out. I do kinda think that's because Tekken is King amongst 3D games, not to say I think it's the best it's just what most people stick to. We are getting a new Virtua Fighter, so there is that to look forward to. If it comes out at a good time it could do well, people are down for weird stuff if it's good GGST kinda proved that. But not many other 3D fighter franchises are really still around, we got a new Soul Calibur a few years ago. DOA has become a game for aquatic animals. But I don't think we'll see a new Battle Arena Toshinden or Evil Zone anytime soon. I mean to your point when Arika came back with FEXL they made it 2D and not 3D like the SF EX series before it. Mortal Kombat went from 2D, 3D then back to 2D so who knows. We could see more 3D fighters come back as late 90s nostalgia starts to kick in. New games with big chunky polygons in the style of the games I referenced above. I think they could be cool I'd like to see the space explored more outside Tekken. Thanks for commenting.

    • @cirro51
      @cirro51 2 года назад

      Good point actually. DoA I believe I read is literally dead now and I haven't seen anything new in regards to 3d fighters. I'm hoping there will be another Soul Caliber for the 3d players' sakes. I also believe there will be a new Virtua Fighter released within a few years. I think the VF5 Ultimate Showdown release was to test the waters, and ultimately it did ok but damn they should have implemented rollback instead of whatever funky netcode system is being used. I think it would have done so much better and should have released it on PC too.

    It's a good time but time is not nice to us humans. I've been feeling too old by now and I can already feel how my reactions aren't how they were up to my late 20s, on top of having not a lot of time anymore, so I'd rather chill with the Yakuza series or fps. Yet, up until my end of the journey, I wasn't a fan of the constant dumbing down of system mechanics. Arcsys has dumbed down their gamesso much that they all feel almost the same by now, just because the suits have finally smelled money after the mainstream success of DBFZ

      Did you play the sf6 beta? Curious to hear why it's mediocre in your eyes...Also every other genre has paid DLC, so what's the issue here? I will agree that I think you should be able to lab out a dlc character without paying for it. Maybe trial DLC so you can test out a new character and not have to buy right away in case you don't like it. Or do something like what multiversus does. I think that's a fair resolution

  • @Leadblast
    @Leadblast 2 года назад

    Actually no, it's not a good time to love fighting games. If you had a clue you would see that:
    - SFIV was better than SFV
    - MKX was better than MK11
    - Tekken Tag 2 was better than Tekken 7.

    • @cirro51
      @cirro51 2 года назад +3

      Sf5 and Tekken 7 came out how many years ago? Over 5 correct. Both franchises are getting the next iteration very soon
      Also classic games getting either updated (guilty gear xx ac+r, gg Xrd, blazblue) or rereleased and soon to be rereleased (Breakers Collection, Rage of the Dragons, The Rumble fish, some older KoFs, Garou: MotW, lest I continue?) with new netcode and polish.
      Some newer games getting updated with cross play (Gg Strive, Kof). And SamSho and DBFZ (sorta) getting rollback update.
      How about all the Indie fighters released recently and in development to be out within a few months to a year? Pocket Bravery, Umbral Core, Trajes Fatais, Punch Planet, Metal Revolution, Bayani, Merfight, and more.
      And don't forget Melty Blood: TL, Skullgirls and Them's Fighting Herds still releasing content and getting better.
      You stating it's not a good time for fighting games is absolute ihnorance. Name dropping the 3 biggest titles and saying the prior versions were better doesn't even hold water in the conversation of the state of fighting games.
      While I do prefer sf4 and mkx over sf5 and mk11 doesn't mean anything when there is so much more to choose from.
      If you had a clue you would see that:
      -- your assessment is just ignorant and wrong. Just because you prefer the older titles of the major fighting game franchises does not mean it's not a good time to love fighting games. It's literally the best time with everything I mentioned.
