Thanks for the quick and to the point video. Just had one die that we used for our plex server. It just wont spin up / boot. About to take the drive out of the case and see if I have any luck connecting it directly to my desktop over SATA. Fingers crossed. And it's def out of warranty, not just because of age but its a replacement from the first we had that died while under warranty (it has "recertified" on the bottom blue part). If the drive doesn't work outside the enclosure, so I can just buy a different one to put it in, I'm def going with Western Digital for the replacement.
I have this same drive but it recently stopped being picked up as an extended heard drive on my PlayStation. Says I don’t even have the hard drive plugged in. Any idea of a fix? Really don’t want to lose game progress
have you tried plugging it into a computer? you can also try taking the bare drive out and either using directly in a desktop computer, or buying an external sata adapter (like this amzn.to/4dpZZyF). All that said, do you hear any abnormal clicking noises when the drive is powered on/trying to be accessed? If so, it could be the drive failing/failed.
Very fast hand wrist speed, superhuman abilities undoing those screws!!
Hey thanks my dude! Successfully removed it from the shell with your help! Now I can put this in a WAY better enclosure for better speeds.

James, you do have answers. Thanks.
Thank you for this! Much appreciated.
Thx. Managed to get it apart without breaking the tabs. 🤣
Helpful, thanks
Thank you! Your video helped me a lot 😅😅❤
Thanks, same here. I have two of these 5TB USB1.1. Will move to USB 3.0 enclosure.
Very helpful! Thank you
Thanks. I always break the damn clips, I should watch videos more often. I use a Thick Guitar Plectrum (Pick) which is strong but gentle.
Wish you would have showed the hard drive connections can you use it internally in a pc after you remove it from the case?
Yes, it has the standard SATA data/power connections to use in a desktop computer (at around the 2:57 mark you can see the connector)
@@jameshasanswers okay thank you I missed it in the video my mistake thank you for responding to my comment.

Does this mean I can put any other HDD inside?
Yep! (There theoretically might be some max capacity that the board would support, but I don't know if a way to confirm or look it up)
@@jameshasanswers Thanks for thr reply
