Some of the greatest talent
we ever worked with. I sat across the catering table from these folks for a half
an hour, So little ego !! That’s what knocked my
socks off….So much talent,
so little Ham. Oh yeah !!!
The best group vocalist .. best musical and visual production
Really set the Gold standard for all those vocalese groups that followed.
also saw 50th Anniversary show in Atlanta Georgia (Oct 2023)
aside from the tears of joy, TMT 'better' than ever !!!!!!
I love Cheryl Bentyne. My wife understands. Thanks for posting!
To sing like this. You gotta love what you're doing.
Jeez, they are one professional polished act. What a talented group of people!
The vocals are great! No surprise there. But that BAND!! Holy Moly!! They are incredibly tight. The bass player is walking from New York to LA!!
There have been no others trying that could touch these amazing humans. RIP Tim Hauser :( .
Was lucky enough to see them a couple of times in LA in the late 70’s early 80’s. There are no words for how great they are!
I don't think there could be an ounce of doubt that these four were THE BEST vocal group EVER. Nothing they couldn't do & do a spectacular job with! Best "Route 66" ever, bar none... Saw them live about 15 yrs ago, Bethlehem PA, Musikfest, In Lehigh University's Zoellner Arts Center. Fantastic venue for the show. That was about 18 yrs after this performance & believe me, they were still just as fabulous!
Too bad they lost Tim as early as they did. End of an era, but this was true greatness...
I would add Take 6 on the podium...
Another amazing performance. I love Cheryl energy! I really wish I could have seen them perform live. They are so underrated. The Manhattan transfer definitely deserves their flowers .
I've been lucky enough to see them 4 or 5 times in various settings. Each time reinforced the thought that, while I might conceivably hear someone as good, I'll never hear anyone better.
I just watched the whole thing and realize my face was hurting from having a grin for the entire time. I first saw them on their 1975 TV special and was so blown away at the time even though I was a kid in the rock era. I guess that was before Cheryl joined the group. I've come to love them more and more as the years go by. So sad that we lost Timmy. Would love to see them live again though. There are the most amazing vocal group ever and I will always love them.
The greatest vocal jazz ensemble!
Have been lucky enough to see them live many times, and every time, they blow me away. RIP, Tim.
Excellent singers, excellent band!
I sawThe Manhattan Transfer in London in 1981(I have the t-shirt to prove it.) Absolutely AWESOME! Thanks for posting this.
I first heard about MT when working at Disneyland in the 1980s. I discovered them on a stage in Tomorrowland, but almost lost my job because I watched the entire show and did not return to work for an hour. It was a great learning experience for me early in my career. Seen them about 20 times over the last 35 years, but paid for seats at each show.
Cheryl Bentyne is a goddess moving about the rest of us mere mortals.
I don't know if I can convey this right. The MT's diction is totally phenomenal in that they are all able to sing the words so fast and never miss a beat. Most artist would be so tongue-tied it would be hilarious. Not these cats. My jaw drops every time I hear them do that. They are true professionals.
Good memory and good concentration, as well as terrific voices and arrangements.
First saw these amazing guys on "The Old Grey Whistle Test". I must have been about 15 or 16. Loved them ever since. RIP Tim.
They have grown in my awareness and appreciation, over thirty years, to a higher level, for the skill, work, artistry, genuine fun in a confidence they have of their quality , art, entertaining shine. Marvelous, and they always look, feel, sound.., are GOOD. Nobody much around seems aware of the high quality, hard work, the effort, imagination, dream, style, polish, seemingly effortless presentation here...
I purchased their Anthology CD when it came out and played it constantly. Never realized my preteen daughter at the time had been listening to the CD as well. Wife told me how our daughter at age eleven knew the words to every song on that CD. She is still a big fan just like me.
the kids are alright
This is SO great! These guys were always a class act! Tops!
Sublime ah ! sublime ! I embrace you ! 💖🤸💐👏
That was spectacular. The Manhattan Transfer in their prime! Thank you for posting this. I always wanted to see them in that era. Never worked out. Love them!
I do not envy the act that had to follow them.
Great show. I loved the opening shot of the four microphones on stage. I first saw them in the Civic Theatre in Auckland, New Zealand. When we arrived at the theatre, seeing the four mikes on stage gave me goosebumps. I was finally going to see TMT. Great show!
When I was a junior high school student, the first pocket money I bought was their cassette tape. I've been a fan since then and I definitely bought the album. I was very happy because I hadn't seen the actual singing scene until I watched RUclips. Thank you everything!
Good God. How can they sing like angels So long without losing a breath or one single note, or a beat?. 🙏
Can't help but to feel good when listening to The Manhattan Transfer!! Love this video so much!
Benny Bailey was extraordinary! Cheryl, those notes!
greatest vocal group on earth!
I was there at this concert in 1987....one of the few moments in my life that I felt really happy....
wow!
ur very lucky
Smashing
That must've been a magical moment.
ME 2 ;)
Worked a club called Bogart's in Cincinnati in '86 and MT played a full set there. Went out and brought album that week. Real change of pace for me.
What a wonderful concert of jazz. Each day of history the girls will get much prettier...... even in sounding! ❤️😎 Never forgot U all! 87! How pwr full music of jazz history! Die Girls gehen richtig ab!! 🌈🕶️😎Jep, RIP Tim!
Concord, is holding onto a five CD Manhattan Transfer box set that includes some unreleased tracks from the vaults. Please consider letting Concord know how much we would love for this to be released. Surely before Chrsitmas would have been and still could be the ultimate time for the release of this retrospective set. I fear if we do not let our collective voices be heard this set may not see the light of day and that would be criminal. Cheers and thanks from a fan but someone who has no connection with MT or any of their affiliates.
Saw them at the Concord Pavilion in the late 80s with my mom--phenomenal!
I was 18 at the time and into rock/new wave ,but even i knew how talented this group was....wow!!
From '76 to '94, I saw TMT 10 times. i wish it had been 10 hundred times ! they are simply THE best. Nothing fake --------no auto-tune ------just 4 incredibly talented people, who put their egos aside, to make great harmony . ----------MJL< 76 y/o

Querido Manhattan Transfer, con vuestros iconicos four brothers y route 66 y otro sinnúmero de éxitos, habéis construido en mi el mejor de mis gustos. Vuestra música con sonido jazz es sencillamente FABULOSA!!!
Love this group the best
I purchased tickets to see the group in San Diego this weekend and, after watching then on RUclips, I am looking forward to the event. I have never seen the group as I am more into classical music and I am telling you I am delighted to attend their concert full of zest, experience and musicianship in their renditions. This is going to be a wonderful new experience for me and my better half, thanks for the opportuity to finally see and listen to this wonderful everlasting group!!
Such a class act!
So great to find this! Loved them since 1976. The moment that "Boop Bop Boop Bop" from Tuxedo Junction came out of my speakers I was hooked!
Manhattan Transfer this's true professional group ths so much
These guys are absolutely amazing! I've heard one of their albums produced prior to this performance, loved it, and was blown away by their musicality and accuracy in time, balance and pitch with those complex jazz harmonies but I am even more amazed that they're able to carry that same level of musicality and accuracy to a live performance. Most folks have no idea how impossibly difficult this is but they make it look and sound effortless. They're live performance pitch accuracy seems better than Take 6 here. But Take 6 is a capella with six male voices, so that's harder and may not be a fair comparison. They're both amazing groups that I absolutely love.
One of my favs. Legends.
I love the Manhattan Transfer 🎙️🎼 There the Bested " They Sing anything this group just pulls you in when you here them.
Great post, great band, thanks so much!
Cheryl is utterly amazing on meet Benny Bailey
I have sung MT songs as I play my vinyls from I know them and emotion hasn`t lost. I didn`t know this version of Corner Pocket, looks like the official and rarely times played version of Until I met You.

MrPARKBRAU I was there. I’m the goofy 15-year-old yelling my head off in the very front. It was an incredible show.

FOUR People with a Thousand Melodies.!... :*
RIP Tim Hauser (vocalist)
Superb band ❤
Yaayyy! 🙌🙌🙌
FAntastic ! Missing the iconic and elegant Candy!
best of the best!!! 💘😎👍
Janis Siegel is 34 or 35 years old ... great live vocal on Boys from New York ... she can growl
she is so awesome!
Amazing, only I can say
oh yes .... i was there .... somewhere in the front places ........
bravo
Those nuances Alex Blake slides into these tracks is not just tasteful its inspiring. in my top five best bass players in the world.
The best of humanity. Like angels.
Credit to their arranger. The music supports the vocals brilliantly and there's a lot of interplay, e.g., 07:24 when the piano underlines the 'ramblin' lyric.
Alex blake working Lines on the bass wow
Super!!!
32 years later and these amazing guys are still touring! Check out their recent shows with a full orchestra here: ruclips.net/video/t4qrN7MJzIM/видео.html :)
Janis & Cheryl were BOTH looking fine !
Prelijepo nice
Tremendous.
I was struck by the sound quality which was exceptional for RUclips. then I saw JVC had a hand in it. I thought it a very strong show with a good encore of " embraceable you". But the highlight was " Jeanine" with I would have liked to hear again in the encore.
No solamente ahora
@@anaprados9680 YO NO HABLABA DEL JAZZ SINO DEL REGETON Y EL PERREO
What the Harlem Globetrotters are to basketball, Manhattan Transfer is to music.
I have one of those t-shirts that reads, "I May Be Old, but I Got to See All the Cool Bands Live."
It is one of the great misfortunes that Manhattan Transfer is one of the bands that I somehow managed NOT to see in concert.
