He literally composed most of their songs and was the one that put everything together. There is a reason since he left everything has kinda been not that great and just a shell of what they were. He left cause he didn't gain any gratification from music any longer.
The auto tune adds something I think, it scratches my brain in a really good way ^^ I love Paul's vocals no matter what but the way it sounds funky at "We could cap the old lines" makes my heart skip a beat so I'll take it and save it for ever

Paul seems real irritated about that live pitch correction. That's an AOL Sessions decision, I'm sure the band had little to do with their choice to auto-tune the vocals. That nasally register of Paul's would sound a little better without it though.
