Ha! I used that same background music @28:00 when we stayed at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort! I think I searched for "Tropical"! 🌴Absolutely love the tiki aesthetic. Great video, Justin!🍍
If you ever make your way east on Interstate 80, stop off for the night at the Scott Shady Court in Winnemucca, Nevada. It originally opened as a motor camp in the 1920s and then added motel rooms in the 1930s with expansions into the 1960s. The lobby is fantastic 1960s luxe. The "new" rooms (circa 1960s" are time capsules. It's truly a time machine and I love it.
Gotta love ❤️💕🤩 Julio!!! He's the totally great travel companion always up to some "Random land" shenanigans!!!! The Dinos are great!!! Wish I could see the old motel n diner you are speaking of!!!
Great video.I am a bit older and Justin was the first U tube broadcaster I started watching. He has never let me down.He continues to be the best of all of them.He is the most likeable and entertaining not to mention informative.Great to see him back.
The Reef is superb!!! So many niches to explore while eating n drinking, of which that Pink Ambrosia drink looked fabulous!!! Too bad Julio had to stay outside!!! Love him ever so!!! What a grand place,!!! I would love to live there.. thanks for showing me the Caliente Tropics Motel. Attaboy, Justin Scarred!!!
The whole place inside n out is totally 1950's n 1960's tiki awesome!!! Reminds me of the kitchen in the first house we lived in when we were growing up, the curtains n furniture are exactly like stuff we had all over our houses back in the 1960's!!! Love the Palm leave ceiling fan, great bathroom excellent supplies provided, frig., Hair dryer, safe, desk. Wonderful room.
Never heard of the "Caliente Tropics Motel""" n can't wait to see it!!!! I managed two different small old roadside motels in Ohio in the 2000s era, n I lived in many more when I was a dancer in Detroit, n I 💕💕 seeing iconic old original roadside motels kept alive for future generations to enjoy!!! Attaboy, Justin Scarred, for staying there n sharing it with us!!!
Bro you actually make awesome content for everyone/kids. My 4 year old son love watching you, we get hyped to go on vacation. These other 50 year old vacation bloggers that make 1000 videos about going to Disneyland are literally laughable and cringe! Thank you for being exciting and fun brother , love from AZ
Aloha Justin and Julio! Thank you for that dino time and then the tropical fun time in Palm Springs! Me and a friend who also loves mid-century everything, had a delicious meal and fun tiki drinks at the Reef a few years ago. Thanks for all the fascinating research and history that you included in your video, much enjoyed and much appreciated! Aloha!
Oh my gosh Justin we can’t wait to watch this video! My husband & I are staying here later this year and we’re so excited!! 😆😆 your vid is perfect timing! Thank you 🙏🏼
The wife and I will definitely have to add this to the list of places to visit and hopefully stay in when we pay a visit to California! Great video my friend 😁.
I recently went there...to Palm Springs, for the first time. I'm a photographer and I loved that architecture so much! I love re-visiting all the photo's I took thru this video...including a drive by photo snapshot of the front of that hotel...I went up into the mountain tram too! That was so cool...I have a fear of heights so it was so cool to face that fear! There was snow up there when I went in January...I left on the 13th, went there, Joshua Tree, up to LA/Santa Monica Pier and then, for the 1st time also...San Francisco! It was a fun 2 week car life (w/my cat!) journey..unfortunately, on the way back...my car died! But at least it made for great content for my channel! Thanks for making this...hoping maybe there will be more from Palm Springs :)
Awesome! I love those places where you can step back in the past. Also, I was born in 1970 😯 and alot of that stuff was still around when I was growing up. My Mom's house had all that avocado green, harvest gold, brown, rust colored everything! So did my aunts and uncles. My grandma's house was older school than that! But yeah, I remember that stuff. That's why the 80s was so different and crazy!
What an awesome place, looks better than Walt Disney World did to the Polynesian Resort . Well blended theming . They did a good job keeping the history too. Great video ! My be Hulo needed a take away drink ....dreaming of aliens 😅 may be to much funny weed seeds...oh wait what that 👽😂
Love the hotels that still stay true to the open road and vintage vibes. Was hoping the room would've had at least cool vintage photos of 50s palm springs.
Wow, you really go in depth! This was amazing. Sambo's was pronounced Sam, like son of Sam. (sorry, it was that or Sam I am) Of course, the Sambo's had to close. Quote from Wikipedia - "In the latter half of the 1970s, pressure began to mount on the chain to change its name, drawing protests and lawsuits in communities that viewed the term Sambo as pejorative towards black Americans." My parents used to take me to one in Texas when I was a kid in the 60's and I remember the pictures on the wall and my mom telling me the story of "Little Black Sambo." It was the first story I ever heard about an African boy and it opened my mind to other kids around the world who were different from me.
Hi Justin, I saw you at Knott's yesterday. Wanted to say hi. But I ran into Mr Woo once and did a stop and chat. It was awkward. I love him but he is chill and relaxed we weren't on the same level. I didn't see you with a camera, so figured you weren't working. However you were decked out in full Randomland gear. Maybe you just wear that everyday anyways. Love you channel and keep up the good work. Thanks for providing such awesome content.
So cool, I’m coming to California soon for a concert! I can’t wait to see some of the tiki stuff there! I’m from Canada so it’s super exciting to me, I think that it actually might be in my itinerary to go to an existing tiki bar and see what it’s about. I don’t drink too much either even though I am of age, it’ll mainly be about the decor there.
Love The Caliente Tropics! I stayed there on my 2019 road trip through Cali. Was so sad to see Don's closed, but I stopped to take a pic and pay my respects. You should go check out the legendary Mai-Kai in Fort Lauderdale when it reopens!
Let’s talk about that sticker I say a sneak peek of ? Also that ending was fantastic some of my favorite moments are the ones that make me laugh so much ! Great job making the best tv show !
I stayed there in early March. There was SNOW on those mountains! I was on a Tiki Decor reconnaissance mission and hit all 3 tiki bars in PS. The Reef was my favorite. Sadly, they did not have the ingredients for Spike's favorite cocktail, the Ambrosia, but the bartender concocted an equally-delicious alternative.
When I was a kid I always wanted to visit those dinosaurs. Sadly my parents didn’t want to drive from VA all the way out there. PWBA is still one of my all time favorite movies.
Thank god they saved it, this place is beautiful! I like the new rooms better too. I'm jealous you're friends with Spike, I watch his channel regularly. I don't know if I wanna hang out in a place racist towards chickens and infested with aliens, poor Julio...wait, I really do, I'll just sneak my chicken friends in disguised as parrots.
We were coming back from Oklahoma for Christmas, late 70's it was really late and it was snowing, there was snow caps on the dinosaurs, the freeway only had barely one lane open
Silly Justin scared of Capzone Dinos! Would be cool if Justin pranked Ally by scaring her with a Jurassic World Allosaurus figure of course?🦖 Crumbling Ceratosaurus!🦕
What was the name of that coffee shop that was next to the motel? If it was Sambo's...yikes! But I digress. I really like this architecture and the general time period clothing. Thanks Justin!❤
Man, I was choked up through this whole thing. Between how excited you always are (rightly so) and the intense nostalgia for a time I never experienced, these awesome videos always get me a bit misty. I think because my parents were born in the 40s and 50s, I feel a strong bond to the experience they had, and a wish to experience SOME of it myself. Mostly the architecture and the items/ technology and big dreams for the future... with tikis... lol.
I know what you mean!! Born in the early 70's, but spent a lot of time growing up at my grandma's house in Bremerton, Washington (the Pacific Northwest had its fair share of Tiki restaurants and bars back in the day, due to an abundance of military/soldiers returning from the Pacific). My grandma's house was full-on Mid-Century in the 70's (the 'holdover' décor that grandparent-homes often have), and I was very close to her. She's long since passed, but there's just something about the whole Mid-Mod & Tiki theme that just soothes me, while also punching me in the nostalgia gut at the same time..... maybe even more so now that I've lived overseas for 20+ years. When I go home to the USA for a visit, I always want to come back to "the way it used to be". Of course that's not possible, but at least in places like Palm Springs/Caliente Tropics, I can get closer to the memories. To quote Bob Dylan: "You can always come back, but you can’t come back all the way."
Stayed here last year It is MCM dream. Only downer, ac units were not very efficient and slept in an uncomfortably warm room, but I was so tired after my day at Disneyland it was fine lol
I recall passing that dinosaur on the way home from Palm Springs many times over the decades. (I’m 60+) 😮😂❤
Ha! I used that same background music @28:00 when we stayed at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort! I think I searched for "Tropical"! 🌴Absolutely love the tiki aesthetic. Great video, Justin!🍍
EPIC TIKI MOTEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you Justin for sharing, so cool! glad you finally got to stay at the Tropics.

wow. my family would always stay at The Tropics when we were kids in the 60's. It was closed for a long time. We loved it!

Your amazing Justin! Thanks for EVERYTHING YOU DO! SCHMIL'n NOW!
The Palm Springs Punch at the Reef is magical!
I love that you drop knowledge and the history of the places you visit. Julio and the alien is an appreciated bonus. Continue to show us more.
Love the hotels that still stay true to the open road and vintage vibes. Was hoping the room would've had at least cool vintage photos of 50s palm springs.
We just went this place for the first time a couple weeks ago and loved it. Highly recommend. Great video!
OMG THE ENDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Such a cool video! Thank you, Justin! It reminds me of what a Trader Sams hotel would look like! Very Polynesian! Hello from Maryland!
Love The Caliente Tropics! I stayed there on my 2019 road trip through Cali. Was so sad to see Don's closed, but I stopped to take a pic and pay my respects. You should go check out the legendary Mai-Kai in Fort Lauderdale when it reopens!

These end credit scenes are out of this galaxy.
So cool, I’m heading to Palm Springs on October, I can’t wait!!
Love the whole tiki vibe 🗿🌴
Wow!!!!! What a fun one 😉🦕🦖🍹
I knew Sancho's was Sambo's. Miss that decor. That tiki bar is amazing. Bedrooms look great. Place looks cool at night too all lit up
I had no idea they repainted the Cabazon Dinos. Remember seeing them as a kid. Good memories every time I rewatch Pee-Wee.
Gonna have to stay there now! Looks awesome
My favorite motel!!! Love the history 🤙
BTW…Another great video. Fantastic!
Great stuff man, very funny 😂

We can't stop laughing... King in the castle, King in the castle.... Very niiice!
This my favorite motel to stay every time I go with family
Great video! We have a Big Ed tiki in our backyard next to our Tiki Bar, “Wayward Traders” (as in if we’re not at Trader Sam’s we’re wayward).
That mid century hotel room look more interesting than that new echoing prison looking room❕
Good lord ! You are a freak 😮and I like it 😬😊✅🇫🇷🇺🇸
Great episode!
It was also in the awesome 80’s movie, The Wizard. And they did film inside.
You should check out the Crossroads Village and Huckleberry Railroad in Flint, Michigan
You Had to put that, "Enchanted Tiki Room," song back into my head again, didn't you!! Now I'll Never get it back out again!!
Fantastic resort, but also what a cool shirt!! do you know where it's from, Justin? I got to get one of those in my life!!
Silly Justin scared of Capzone Dinos! Would be cool if Justin pranked Ally by scaring her with a Jurassic World Allosaurus figure of course?🦖 Crumbling Ceratosaurus!🦕
