I know these are pretty old Videos. But for this bike there are almost no maintenance or repairs videos available. Just wanted to thank you for your time and service to Gsx 650f owners. Though I don't think you'll ever see this. Thank you again from across the pond.
Wanted to make sure i said a HUGE thanks from the americas mate. This was a huge help on a bike that has sat for almost a year! God bless and god speed!
For those of you who are just wanting to replace the chain alone, break the old chain and use something to link the new chain with the old, spin it around until you have the new chain on and secure it. Takes less time and keeps everything the way it was if you don't have all the proper tools.
make sure you take a picture of the gear change selector rod at the position you took it off! I put mine on the wrong angle and couldn't select the gears properly. Lesson learnt!. Great video as always matey.
I'm gonna start to do mine soon. Was told to cable tie the clutch lever in first ? Any point? Your video was bang on. Very good information and clear instructions, Cheers
Bloody hell mate your were not wrong about that sprocket nut being tight, I spent about 3 hours trying to get if off on my own, I think my breaker bar looked more likely to snap than for the nut to undo. Got if off this morning it took a 1 inch drive breaker bar with a heavy trolley jack handle used over the handle for extra leverage.
i liked the videos, where you have shown us your tools, from the beginning a little bit more. i guess for international viewers it's better to see your tools
Hi there I'm finding your videos interesting as iv just bought a 2012 bike same as yours.. My question is have you ever change your head light bulbs as I would like to put LED.s in the 2 small driving lights ?
Ahhhh, found your original question now :) Hopefully I've sort of answered that with my reply to your other comment... I haven't changed my bulbs yet but they defiantly need to replaced as the standard ones just aren't bright enough in my opinion. I believe you just need to add load resisters when changing the bulbs to LED ones... I am going to try and replace mine to the Philips one I mentioned in the other comment, so I will record myself doing that of course... Thanks for commenting and hope you enjoy the bike, they are awesome as I'm sure you know
Was a while ago when I did it but pretty sure there was no grinding the old link and it was splitter straight on. Thanks for commenting and good luck if you’re replacing the parts 👍
made a start to this today, but as I thought would be the case, I didn't have a socket big enough for the front sprocket , do you remember what size it was ? my mate will probably have one in his collection.
Hi mate, sorry I cant remember which size that was.. I listed these sizes in the description "10, 14, 22, 27 and 32mm Socket" so guessing its the 32mm but it was so long ago and pretty sure I had to borrow that one too :)
Good video, the pace is bang-on. What did you use to break/rivet the chain? Looks like a DID KM500, any info would be good. Especially if it's not that one (as it's over £100).
Thanks mate, I actually borrowed the tool from a car mechanic mate as I couldn't justify buying one either as they are expensive. I'm not sure of the exact one I used but it does look like that - but I imagine they all similar :) Sorry I cant be of more help
@@CJMPH Cheers for the reply, much appreciated :) I ended up getting a £20 chain breaker and riveting tool off e bay and it was bang on. However, I did completely flatten the head off the rivet with an angle grinder before pushing it through to split the chain and took my time when joining the new one. Vernier calipers are essential too.
These questions are for anyone... I just bought a low mile, 2008 GSX650F. What is the difference if I go with a one tooth less sprocket up front, and less teeth in the sprocket in the back, versus if I went with a one tooth less front sprocket, and a rear sprocket with more teeth? Versus going with a one tooth less front sprocket, but use the OEM rear sprocket? Versus just using a rear sprocket with less teeth, and not touching the front sprocket? How would these all compare? It's so confusing lol. I hear that a lot of people like going with a front sprocket with one less tooth, and a rear sprocket with more teeth? Any help with this would be great! Thanks guys 👍
Hi. Great video! But I only want to change my front sprocket (from a 15 tooth to a 17 tooth) the bike has hardly done any miles and the chain & rear sprocket are fine. Question. Do you think that by slackening off the chain by the rear wheel it will allow the chain to disengage/reengage the front sprocket without having to break the chain?
I'd like to do the same to mine as well, 1 tooth on the front just to calm the revs in 6th a bit at cruise. I haven't attempted myself by my set are fairly new, or at least my standard for "worn" is different lol. Still, if you've tried this and you only slacked the back wheel, let me know. You'll save me a tonne of effort 😅
she is in good hands now (female hands :D ) but year, i was totaly ....sad is not even close enough a word for. maybe next year will come a new one. But i've told the new owners about your channel :D

Another great video..showed us everything we needed to know..
But there's just one thing......A Green Fred Perry?

Good job, i have gsf650 k8 but dont have press instrument
About to do this on my Baby blu. I need to start collecting the shit i need. Thanks playa, this helped so much haha
to measure the chain slack, don't you have to pull it down too?
Thank you very much, gave me confidence to change mine. I would like to see one more thing though, your partners reaction to the oil on your carpet 🤣
i liked the videos, where you have shown us your tools, from the beginning a little bit more. i guess for international viewers it's better to see your tools
To be honest, I started recording the tools but then I forgot to do some and I was just trying to get it finished as quickly as possible :)
ah ok i see :) at least it's still a pretty good video !

Nice job, but next time I recommend cleaning up front sprocket area from old fat and dirt, preferably with a brake cleaner and compressed air.
Nah, just give it a soak with some kerosene, scrape all the crap off and jam a pressure washer on it.
Justo la semana pasada lo hice! Buen video.
Nice one. Gracias amigo
with the chain splitter, did you grind head off the old link or just put splitter straight on? cheers

HI thanks for the reply, got a socket of my mate today, yes it is the 32 mm I will get the chain and sprockets off tomorrow.
@@650GSF ah nice one, good luck mate

I'm following your lead. The allen bolt at the speed sensor is what mm? Also, the front sprocket bolt is what mm? Thanks!
Very informative many thanks.
Thanks, glad you found it useful, thanks for commenting
Why did you use the impact gun only too slacken the nut and not just buzz it all the way off?
How did you get the first nut off the front sprocket? Your Hand was in the way. Is it the allen key coz mine don't wanna move!
grant ross hi mate, is it the one at 3:00 that you’re talking about?

Good job and thx for video
No worries, thanks for commenting
2:46 at least you have an oiler :D imagine how it looks with just normal chain-lube :D
I know, the oilers can be a pain but they do look after the chain

Brasil ✌👏👏
what lube do you prefer to use on the chain?
I cant actually remember the last lot of lube I brought as my bike had a scottoiler so always brought their standard blue refill
Just use gear oil and a small brush, don't buy into all this fancy lube crap.
cheers - very helpful.
No worries, glad it helped. Thanks for commenting mate
If you don’t have a chain breaker, you can always use bolt cutters
What year is the bike?
This was on a 2008 model
@15:22 what’s that pipe sticked to swing arm .dont have on mine one thanks
See, look at how much faff this is. On a Gs500 this is a 10 minute job without having to remove half the electrics and plastic.
oh CJ btw i sold mine :(
I saw on your Instagram :( Sad to see it go
she is in good hands now (female hands :D )
but year, i was totaly ....sad is not even close enough a word for. maybe next year will come a new one.
But i've told the new owners about your channel :D
Haha, thanks mate, you are too kind :) Hopefully you will be back on 2 wheels next year
Hate your han placement I’m trying to see what you’re doing
