    My immigrant grandmother kept a 5 gallon pail in the corner of her kitchen. She loaded the bottom of the pail with cabbage and salt. Placed a cheesecloth over the cabbage, then took a large rock from the field overtop and let it ferment. She lived to 92.

      Just found your challenge because I was watching a Vitamix blender soup recipe and was looking at the comments. One of the comments from someone that mentioned that she was doing a Soup Challenge. I was intrigued by the idea of a Soup Challenge and wanted to know more. Your channel came up! I am SOOO happy that it did! What a blessing!!! I also have a special needs Autistic son and an ADHD son. I have wanted to try the GAPS diet for them but have been always overwhelmed about starting it. You made it sooo easy for me to know that I COULD actually do this for my family! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! What an absolute blessing to have found your channel. You are so easy to follow and have a calm personality which is wonderful for any frazzled momma to listen too!

    It reminds me how my mom made food for me when I was small. On a side I am originally from Russia. Meat stocks, fish stocks are definitely part of our diet. I guess without even knowing it we kind of followed gaps diet. I bought a book by Dr. Natasha. For sure would be helpful. Thank you for your channel!

    Thank you so much for your videos! I have to say that I can cook, I can ferment, I can make a mean broth... but I read the GAPS book and still didn't know how to do GAPS. • @nattyrf511

    I bought your book after watching these videos.
    There are so many gaps intro videos & frankly they remind me of speaking Christaineze. In that when, Christians get together they start speaking in Christian lingo & it makes others who aren't versed in these words/terms really hard to follow the conversation. Because of that I try to remain mindful & not say things like "be like David"...lol Instead, I just explain that we should trust in God & be a (wo)man after God's own Heart.
    Likewise, these other ppl talking about GAPs on youtube, seem to be knowledgeable & laboriously explain every detail of GAPs but they use such terminology that they lose the average non practicing GAPs person. It's like they speak in circles. By the time they're done explain terminology, I forgot what they were talking about.
    You teach through showing us what to do, that is incredibly helpful for a mama with ADHD & that learn visually. I have spent MONTHS studying this book & watching GAPs channels and videos & I learned more from this one video than I did from all of those things. Which is why I bought the book. The book is really incredible. It's detailed, full of information, it's clear, it's written in digestible language, pun intended.
    Can't thank you enough. God bless you & yours.

    • @lovetobe6118
      @lovetobe6118 3 года назад +3

      I am a GAPS momma. There is actually multiple versions of the GAPS diet. One is no plants GAPS or low plants. You can blend what vegetables you have in the stock. My children love stock with blended pumpkins or carrots. You can also just start with no vegetables and slowly add them in small amounts. Blended onion is usually well received.

      I asked a friend about this. I thought there was no way We could only do stock with meat. But he said that was all he ate and I tried it. We found if you actually cook it a bit longer and blend in the cartiledge, skin and marrow, it is so satisfying. The collagen will have an appetite suppressing as well as reducing anxiety. It's somehow so different than plain.

    Questions. Yes, these are extremely tiny meals but that said, that are doable however, my question is serving size per meal? And, how many times a day or meals per day do we eat during these first seven intro days? Can we eat as much as we want per meal? And can we eat three times a day or more than three times a day? Because there are critical lacking in sufficient calories here in this diet, and that is and, ir can be very dangerous if we do not consume enough important daily calories. I'm considering doing this diet, but would definately need to eat a lot more than shown especially with soup meals, otherwise I would not have enough energy to make it an entire day. Our bodies need healthy and sufficient number of per meal or daily calories and what I am seeing per meal is seriousely lacking in calories, so I'd need to know these questions for that reason and also for prior to meal preparation that there is enough to consume per each meal. Also, what can we drink and for the proper amount of fluids during the daytime and how much can we drink? Because plenty of fluids are critical, to prevent both diarrhea and constipation complications. Im finding this interesting, but these are very important need to know concerning questions. These could be a problem for those with hypoglycemia and with diabetes both. Any suggestions? Thank you

    one comment regarding the addition of sauerkraut juice to meat stock , I guess the meat stock should not be too hot, otherwise the good bacteria of the juice would be killed.

    I’m now on day 2 GAPS intro diet. Thank you very much for the information, it’s really helpfull. Only the sauerkraut probiotic. On internet they said you need make sure no air is in the glass pot. So fill the other 1/4 with plastic bag with water. For fermenting. Ur method is 1/4 of the glass sauerkraut is air. What u think bout this?

    • @Healthhomehappy

      The little air that's in the jar gets used up quickly - and that's why we add the salt, to keep the bad bacteria from multiplying. In short, the bacteria that need air don't like salt, and once the air is used up they can't multiply and the good stuff takes over :) I don't think I'd put a plastic bag in there with my ferment personally.

    hello ! my 6 mo old daughter has horrible eczema she is always scratching and i know it bothers her poor baby :( i have tried creams, cutting out dairy, starting to cut of glutten . it seems like nothing is working but the more i research the GAPS diet , the more i am convinced that this is what i need to do. im trying to avoid buying a hundred books on ezcema and health SO would you recommend that i just buy the GAPS (yellow) book? or do you have any sites that make this easier to understand and start?
    this is SO overwhelming and i just want to start !!!

      Hi AJAV, if you click over here you'll find out what I say about eczema: healthhomeandhappiness.com/eczema-is-the-root-cause-in-the-gut.html Also yes, you will want to buy the GAPS book, but you may be able to heal her eczema (especially if you're nursing) if you cut out eggs, dairy, wheat, and then see which was triggering it. Then increase probiotics and keep the triggering food out :)

    Be sure when adding probiotic to broth that the broth is not too hot for it. If the broth is too hot it will just cook the bacteria that you are trying to get and make it ineffective. The broth should be warm not hot.

      It’s irrelevant any probiotics taken orally do not survive the stomach acid unless they are in a specially designed gel pill

      This thread echoes everything I have found on probiotics in the stomach. The stomach acid isn't as deadly to probiotics as we are led to believe by modern medical practitioners, and more get through than they tell us.

    I am on the GAPS intro diet. I have a question about reusing beef bones to make meat stock. Do you recommend reusing the bones over and over again to remake beef stock? I was wondering if you would release histamines into the stock if you reuse bones that have already been simmered for a couple of hours to make the initial stock. Thank you, your videos are so helpful!

    • @Healthhomehappy
      @Healthhomehappy  5 лет назад +2

      I wouldn't on intro, but you can save them and do that later :) When I'm not on intro I reuse my bones 3 times usually.

    I just getting ready to start Stage 1. When you show the recipes (beef patties, Onions etc) how many times a day are you to eat? For example, day 1 you show making the stock. Is this all you eat all day? Thanks!

      Hi Liz, my e-book has a few different recipes for each day, the GAPS book does too, and you just eat as much as you are hungry for within whatever stage you're on.

      If he is choosing to be vegetarian, I would take this time to take parental authority over making decisions for him. It is much easier to get adequate nutrition if he is eating meat. If the family is vegetarian, I would consider doing a temporary trial of including meat and see how he does.
