    "Perhaps it's the world's strongest..."
    "Beeeean!!"
    "....marketing."
    😂👏 Love watching you guys.
    Presently sipping my Tim Horton's that I just tried for the first time based on your review. I'd been curious cos it's so iconic, but avoided it becaise I'd heard people equate it with Starbucks in flavor. I'm as allergic to Starbucks as the two of you seem to be. You are correct. TH is very good at not being bad. I drink mine black, but I could see it as a good base flavor to add all the cream and flavored syrups people do. Decent flavorful smooth blank canvas. I wouldn't turn down a second cup. But I'm not feeling the urge to share it with everyone I know either.

    • @WholeBrainCoffee
      @WholeBrainCoffee  2 года назад +1

      Hey thanks for the awesome feedback!! Glad you found Tim Horton's to be in line with what we experienced - perfectly average in flavor but quite satisfactory for the price. They never claimed or tried to position themselves as a "premium brand" so you get exactly what you pay for... just coffee. I like that.
      If you're looking for something a little more interesting and complex, I would recommend Bella Donovan blend from Blue Bottle. It was a viewer request and we just tried it today so it's still fresh on my mind. Highly recommended! Full review of it will be coming over the next couple of weeks.

    Deathwish is honestly my favorite coffee, down to the taste and the smell and quality of it. It's not something to 'only' have, the amount of caffeine it puts at you isn't the best if you are a regular coffee drinker, but that every once in a while, it's the best for me.

    I’m fairly certain some DW varieties are a robusta/arabica blend. The espresso roast specifically if I remember correctly. The owner is super chill too! Their mugs are all handmade by local potters close to their roastery.

      Also, their seasonal pumpkin flavor is incredible. It’s all natural and has some nice flavor to it. For me, I’ve tried a lot of other coffees and Death Wish is my go to for caffeine content. A normal 12 oz cup can have between 300-700 mg of caffeine depending on the brew method.

    I've drank Deathwish for 10 years. They have a dark roast and a medium roast. The medium roast is awesome for cold brewing for iced coffee in the summer, the dark roast is good for brewing in the winter. Independent tests have shown it to have over 650 MG of caffeine per cup. I've never tasted the burnt taste like you do with the nasty Starbucks. Furthermore, they have MULTIPLE different flavors and brews including Valhalla Java, Expresso Roast, etc. The blue and buried stuff I found to be nasty though and made our entire machine shop smell like a head shop.

    • @WholeBrainCoffee
      @WholeBrainCoffee  2 года назад +1

      haha we have several videos where we criticise Starbucks for exactly the same thing you said: burnt, nasty, stale. I can't say that Deathwish is outstanding, but it's... good enough. It's like Starbucks, where their marketing is better than the product. However, in this case they actually manage to deliver!

    To me it sounds like a pretty fair, unbiased review. Sounds like you guys didn't love it but didn't hate it. I've never tried it but I did buy a bag of the dark roast today, will try it in the morning. I think going in with lowered expectations is a good approach TBH. I was intrigued by the marketing as much as everyone else was. My go to is Community Signature Blend dark roast, not expecting Death Wish to dethrone it but maybe it can be comparable?

Drank a lot of robusta in the Corps there's honestly so much better but the problem is availability & finding right prep. if money isn't an issue the best beans are sourced from Vietnam, DRC & Brazil. There are quite a few "highly caffeinated" offerings out there. Honestly, they all seem to be on par with Deathwish as far as the price goes.

    I think robusta appears "uncommon" in the US because it has a reputation for being the poor man's bean...therefore brands that use it don't advertise it. Like I'm pretty sure robusta is used in part in plain ol' Folgers and Maxwell House; they don't say the coffee species on the container so we can't know for sure. But I suspect it's part robusta because some premium Folgers/Maxwell formulations are advertised as 100% Arabica, which lends me to believe the standard isn't.
    Still, I think the notion of "high-end" robusta is kinda cool, and I hope we see more of that.

    • @WholeBrainCoffee
      @WholeBrainCoffee  2 года назад

      I agree. I personally appreciate robusta and enjoy the caffeine kick, but I can see how many people are turned off by the relatively harsh experience it offers. It's interesting that even Death Wish is reluctant to advertise that their blend contains robusta while literally putting DEATH in the name with a giant skull and crossbones on the bag 😂😂😂
      Do you have any robusta suggestions? Would love to try something new

      That's not a great comparison with Candy, its more similar to wine or cigars. Coffee is grown in different elevations, has 45+ varietals, different soils and regions of growing which all factor into flavor. It even has more tasting notes than wine does. Then factor into that different brewing styles from Pour Over, Espresso, MokaPot, Turkish, French Press....its more complex than your average person even realizes.
