For Summer 24, we are taking you to Tuscany. This season’s short film accompanies folk singer and nature appreciator Sam Lee on a journey through green valleys and cypress avenues, between umbrella pines, meadows bursting with poppies and tiny hilltop towns. There we met many wonderful people - some of whom you’ll see in the film - and were serenaded by some exceptionally beautiful birds.
We filmed Sam on a journey of curiosity, singing the folk song of nature adoration, ‘Sweet Lemeney’, amid the distinctive landscape of the Arezzo region - foraging for impressions, sounds and objects. A hare bell, the song of a nightingale (Sam’s muse and collaborator), a sunset view. Though very much an English song, we found all of the bird voices it names in Arezzo - nightingales, turtle doves, sky larks as well as golden orioles and nightjars.
This film was shot on 16mm, on an Arri 416 📽️

A Note on Sweet Lemeney
The traditional song ‘Sweet Lemeney’ is an aubade - a song for the morning - which contains clues to a lost midsummer tradition. ‘Lemeney’ has likely emerged from the Middle English ‘leman’, a word that means sweetheart or lover. Midsummer’s Day (that’s today!) was once called Leman’s Day, and lovers would serenade one another at dawn… This version uses the Copper Family of Sussex’s words and tune.

Saw the short version ad on Insta, i was immediately drawn in with the little wholesome singing, the violins, the ambience of the landscape, the wind, the birds, the cinematography, the lighting, the setting. Felt like a story of a man who went on a vacation in rural Italy to escape the crowd of New York. I dig it. (I probably got a lot of details wrong but its the thought that counts)

I never thought a perfume ad would give me such a genuinely beautiful and moving piece of art, but here we are.
Since yall are working at releasing this, please take note of what makes this work so effectively. Often I find when something like this releases and people request an official release, it feels as though what the people like about the original gets lost when put into the studio. The fact the Sam Lee sounds distant from the microphone is half of what makes this so beautiful, please keep the bird chirping sound effects and as many of those ambient sounds as possible. Those things are what give this its warmth, please take these notes to the studio! We greatly appreciate the efforts to release it on Spotify :) it’s a gorgeous song

1:04 this was what instantly caught my ear
I can’t even begin to explain how deeply beautiful this is. I’ve watched it several times and it evokes such a wistful sense of peace. I first heard part of it in a Instagram ad and had to look for the longer version. I’m glad other fellow souls have been touched by it also.
This is one of my favorite pieces of media ever created. Captures the relief of making it to another summer solstice perfectly.
The lush 16mm cinematography marries so well with the feeling of the music. It is as if the spirit of Nick Drake's oeuvre had risen from a deep sleep. How refreshing!

All things aside, I love videos like this, ad or not. Getting to just watch natural AND beautiful cinematography while finding the perfect tone of song to match the feeling, it gives you a sense of longing and belonging at the same time. To just lay in the fields pictured for hours, and just soak it all. You should feel proud of this amazingly captured video.

What a beautiful piece. Reminds me of our late summer trip to Tuscany 🫠. It was transcendent and starkly opposite to my usual city life.

I hope you all know I've watched this ad every time it shows up on my instagram reels since it first popped up. This is the only ad i not only tolerate, but love.
If you all don't mind me asking, how did you all get that warm fuzzy feeling with the way this film was shot? I know there's gotta be something there, but I lack the technical knowledge to pinpoint. Nonetheless, both the short version and (especially) the longer one is fantastic.

because of the excessive rain this year it was way greener thru june and flowers took longer to bloom
