But in the most nightmarish crash in 1987 is the chase Maryland that killed 16 people and injured 170 the am7s 900 crashed into the locomotives 5054 and 5045 diesel exploded and was never rebuilt 907 and 900 were a total loss
The animations here are actually pretty accurate, except for the obvious mistake of the type of train used in the animation. I was in the back car and didn't see anyone fall, but then again I had no idea what was going on in the other 7 cars (I didn't even know some cars were on the ground until the T/O came into our car and made the announcement). Out of the 19 injured, I believe most were panic or asthma attacks as dust was stirred up and coming into the cars from the incident. Still, a pretty good overview here as to what happened. The train derailed at 10:20 AM, about 1800-1200 feet R/R South of the 65 Street station on the SB Express track.
I take the F train to and from home and things like this never happen. The city needs to improve the subway system seriously! The fare went up and nothing special is being done like get it together! Too many ppl are taking trains everyday get these rails properly fixed please and thank you!
Derailments like these are rare. They do fix the tracks, and, you might not know it, but they are working during nights all the time to replace track. The NYC Subway is huge, okay?
Marie S. You are aware that the rails are constantly being inspected for any flaws that might result in problems such as this. At night during off peak hours when revenue traffic is lightest "track geometry" cars and "rail inspection cars" pass over the tracks carefully inspecting every section of track for any unusual stresses, wear, and/or tiny hairline cracks that could result in accidents or delays. Any sections of rail found to be flawed are marked for replacement. You would be surprised at how much time and effort is constantly being put in to check the tracks for safety. www.nycsubway.org/wiki/Track_Geometry_and_Inspection_Cars
