  • Major leaks on the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines releasing huge amounts of gas into the surrounding Baltic Sea and atmosphere were reported on Monday.
Images show the surface of the sea broiling as gas erupted from pipelines 80-110 meters (265-360 feet) below sea level. The long-term impact of the explosion is hard to quantify.
ʺAccording to our current knowledge, the leaks in the Nord Stream pipeline do not pose any serious threat to the marine environment of the Baltic Sea,ʺ a spokesperson for Germany's Environment Ministry told DW.
Experts say the long-term climate impact of the emissions will be substantial.

The more important questions are actually:
    1) Why wasn't the gas ignited to lessen the environmental damage by turning it into CO2?
    2) Why didn't the gas self-ignite, as seen in similar events?
    3) How could a helicopter safely fly above a huge bubble of highly inflammable gas?
I actually assume that there was not much flammable gas in those bubbles, and most of the gas was nitrogen. Otherwise somebody would have to give good answers to the questions.

    • @neuralnetwork17
      @neuralnetwork17 9 месяцев назад

      1) It's an unexpected and quickly unfolding event, it's not like the Danish government does things like that on a whim.
      2) Methane does not self ignite. You are just unaware of what ignited the methane in these other events.
      3) Gasses diffuse very quickly.
Ofcourse it is methane. That's what the pipeline was built for. The Germans want methane, the Russians want money. Pumping worthless nitrogen through those pipelines is of no use to anybody.

Thanks to an open threat issued by our senile pres, we know the United States is behind the two explosions that caused a massive natural gas leak into the Baltic Sea? The incident has cut off Russia’s ability to deliver methane gas to Germany and other European nations. This brain dead man is pushing into WW III, so we don't need to worry about the damage to the environment from billions of cubic feet of natural gas. Did Hunter and Ashley convince their dad to blow up the 2 huge pipelines, who knows?
The release of methane into the water and atmosphere is killing marine life and delivering a greenhouse gas pollutant into the atmosphere that would be gravely feared by believers in man-made global warming. The word “eco-terrorism” comes to mind the describe this insane act of sabotage!!

Methane is nearly 30 times more potent than carbon dioxide and while it accounts for 11% of greenhouse gas emissions, it lasts 12 years in the air and traps 80-84 times more heat in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide does. After those 12 years it breaks down into CO2 and water.
Scientists estimate that at least 25% of today’s warming is driven by methane from human actions.
This is why we ordinarily burn methane down into CO2 and water, as keeping methane emissions around is much more harmful. To put that in perspective: burning natural gasses (predominantly methane) produces less CO2 than burning coal does at equal energy generation levels.

Although this is an important issue, the slightly bigger issue is what will happen when the pipeline fills with seawater and corrodes. So far, literally nothing is being done to stop this, and when it does, it will mean that the pipeline will increasingly become unusable entirely. Not only do you have to get all that water out, but you can no longer trust the pipe itself. Odds are good that, given the way things are going, both pipelines will be permanently lost.
That sort of changes the calculus a bit, since the option to return to Russian gas will be completely off the table unless, ironically, they send it through Ukraine.

Reporter: "But how will you do that, exactly, since...the project is in Germany's control?" Biden: "I promise you, we will be able to do that." But, thank God the orange man isn't our pres!!

This is one of those short term/ long term issues amongst nations. The rupturing of that pipe will cause hardship in Europe but it will also cause them to seek alternatives that they will lock in over the longer term. It was the same with COVID. It caused countries to promote internal production because shipping from China was unstable even though most indicators said it started there. China and Russia are in some trouble here. The world order is likely to be Europe/USA by 2025. I don't see a way for China and Russia to redirect industry back to themselves in the near future.

Eurasia was the economic and political centre of power for most of human history. It is really only in the last 150 years that the Royal Navy, and subsequently to a greater extent American Navy were able to contain them with their fleet and network of bases around the world. This made global specialization possible, and overseas trade safe, entrenching the pound then dollar as the centre of the global economy. Now, as Eurasia develops trade links, expands resource extraction and integrates the markets of India, Russia and China, (and likely Africa), there is good reason to believe it will be the centre of the next global imperial power. North America will be isolated, South America forgotten, and Europe will be a declining civilization on the periphery.

It's literally under the sea. That's not just like putting a bandaid and calling it a day. Plus this infrastructure is owned by Russia who is being barred from investigating it as the area where the pipeline exploded is NATO controlled waters. So yes they'll just leave it leaking.

To be honest, the statement “security increase and military deployment around strategic oil & gaz infrastructures followings the incident, etc” well…… it’s about time !!
We are just so naive in Europe.
We all know what GRU & FSB are capable of, but we all always think good will and rational thinking will lead our opponents to solve issues in the most pacific and legal way as possible, just like we would like to.
    cmon… 😔
It’s about time to take preventive mesures, yeah. Good idea indeed, that should have been the case since at least June of this year, if not sooner.
But well, mistakes were made 😒
Need to deal with it now…
