only down side to airstreams are the price tag. but i always loved their looks.
I agree. However. I think they hold their value over the years as opposed to the other RVs.
There are other downsides, particularly the lack of storage. But the quality and beauty are undeniable.
Quality always comes with a price.
140 grand spent and you'd still have to come up with money to buy something to pull it. No thanks. I don't care how "cool" it loooks.
@@galencaudill6462 Does it lift?
i really really like that jay got this on the show, and didn't just show an obnoxiously luxurious motor home that are so big in the US at the moment, love ya work jay
Every Leno's Garage vid I watch is the best yet. Even if its only a trailer vid!
The look on that guy's face when Jay said "Domestic" instead of Dometic. Priceless.
what about the hot water heater? if you have hot water why are you heating it?
I just use a water heater and that is plenty good for a bum like me
Like a good salesman, he did not correct or show off in front of customers (us).
"Wet bar." What other kind is there?
5:20 for reference
Looked at again -- he maintained a perfectly straight face. Very respectful. I didn't notice the name difference until reading this comment. No biggie.
At this point can we stop calling them flat screens and just call them TV's. After all they are the only kind you can buy now.
So true.
HAHAHHA RIGHT!
They do make a curved screen LCD tv.
Or why it's called "tube".
It's only a TV if it has a tuner in it. I just bought a 48" Vizio but they have to call it a Display because it doesn't have a tuner in it.
I love airstreams, always found them to be gorgeous trailers. it's on my bucket list to get one
Me too! Wanna rob a bank with me?
@@deborahannehart6788 very tempted to! Except, I couldn't hit the side of a barn, with a shotgun!
I've ,come across some old airstream trailers, that have been gutted (were used for storage)and are for sale. Might get one of those for cheap, and restore it.
Either Jay Leno has thousands of the same shirt, or this is the only one he has. I swear to god he wears it in every single video.
Yeah, I think he probably has a giant walk-in closet full of nothing but denim shirts. At least he doesn't have to put much thought into what he is gonna wear for the videos. :)
He buys them in bulk and it is the only thing he wears apart from suits for tv and so on
Blue light denim. It gets the job done.
Just like his late night show right?
Indeed.
The flooring is way cool. The design is simple and nice. I hate the big RV's with their over the top ugly interiors. This one is perfect for my style.
My brother just bought the new 33ft Classic Airstream and could not be happy. I even uploaded a tour of him showing us around the Airstream. They remind me of the Jetsons....futuristic and cool :) I had no idea Jay Leno had a channel on his garage. I love cars. Grew up going to Detroit every year to the car show with ourr dad back in the day :) Loved this video! Melody
Jay didn't seem impressed lol.
+jaskoe1 the company man should have gone in the bed with him, LOL
If it had a steam powered engine in it, Jay would have perked up.
I can see why. Just a rich mans toy, more than a camping trailer.
yea, thats why he featured it on his show yup
I was wondering if this was something they paid him to do. He honestly acts very uninterested, like he just wanted it to be over.
I agree. If I could afford it, I'd buy a nice used Airstream. I like the way they look. I like the way they were built. I also like the philosophy behind it. "Let's not make changes, let's make only improvements." - Wally Byam If only every car maker lived by that philosophy.
nicer than my house. i wish I could live in one of these. i'd take this across america and stay in it at some places each day.
Mr Leno I herd you read the comments and wanted to say I never liked you on the tonight show (God Bless Carson). but on this channel you rock.
Your Garage is a Mechanics dream,
Your gallery is so important to so many generations to come the history that you preserved. The beautiful works of art and history ALL
AND THEY ALL WORK!!!!! (AKA BADASS SHOP UHIM UHIM.)
BADASS MECHANICS.!!! AMEN.
That guy looks like a younger Harrison Ford.
Oh my word...I kept thinking he looked familiar. Then I start looking at the comments to see what people say about the trailer.....and I see your comment. Nailed it!
I thought the same thing
James Brown Your right! He is just missing the hoop earring. 😉
A LOT CUTER THAN FORD.
I love the airstream look! :)
Except for the "awning" as he called it. It really destroys the sleek streamlined look of the trailer by being a bolt-on job instead of a more integrated solution that's flush with the aluminium outer frame of the trailer.
My dad is 80 years old and works on his old Airstream all the time... When he's not pulling it with his diesel ML350 Mercedes SUV, all over the US. If I can be half the man he is, I may own one of these some day. I rode with him from Washington State, back to Florida where we live. It was funny, the looks we got from the big dullay Fords and GMC trucks that we constantly passed on the 6% grades in the mountains. They always wanted to ask us at the next rest stop, what we were packing under the hood. Was funny to see their faces as we showed them the standard V6 diesel under the lid. Dad just got back from his 3rd cross country trip last month. He loves camping in that Airstream. Even if it is old and takes up most of his limited time fixing it. ;)
In 1964 we lived in an Airstream in Alaska. I was just a kid then. But My mom was an Airstream fan for ever after that.
nice, i can live in that full time. easy to keep clean
The interior on that is amazing
Jay, thanks for not pretending to know all about them. It was fun to watch you discover the accessories and built in features. You have seen (and own) damn near every type of motorized and powered vehicle, and I love that you casually roll facts off and surprise the owners. In this case it almost seemed to be your first walk around of a camper, and what a nice choice to show us! Thx
I love Airstreams - hope to get one someday
I believe that Jay worked hard, was frugal and earned his fun retirement. More power to him! Jay, you are awesome.
Beautiful! Love the clean lines.
“Looks like the lobby of some Hotel” “A nice one I hope”
I think Jay is fantastic with his knowledge and engagement for cars! I will watch every single program when I have time. There are a lot of other things in life to be angry for!
Love Airstream, thank you for posting this
If my ship ever comes in I may have to get one of those Airstream Land Yachts.
I’ve still got my Dad’s 1973 31’er, but it needs a bunch of work. Maybe one day. Lots of memories.
Jay, you acted like you would have rather went to the dentist than to show that camper, but I loved it! Though I could never afford one, Airsream has always been my favorite. Wish you were more into it.
Very nice trailer .. but 140 grand .. That will buy you a nice RV bus.
Well this one is a "concept", teak floors, motorized awning, etc. They have similar real available models for 80K +
punkinhoot True, but airstreams are known for reliability.
My parents has one that is way bigger and better than this one. Of course you need a 1 ton diesel to pull it. It was 90 grand
The old ones were good. Thor Industries bought the company several years ago. Thor is a four letter word for "pisspoor."
This is brand new
Airstream’s have always been cool a spaceship you can park in your driveway.
Yep this is the kind of unscripted advert most companies would shudder at, this gentleman sailed through it and that really speaks well of airstream.
That was one of the most laidback Cali style commercials I’ve ever seen!
I liked the CEO of Airstream. Not your average "salesguy", nice and reserved.
Chris Mumford Yeah he seemed pretty chill. Not that lip service type that will basically perform oral sex on you from across the desk. Totally cool.
Killer witt to boot
Chris Mumford yeah super stiff too.
MADE IN USA . I LOVE IT .
ludo luco do not let them fool you every part made in China and gets assembled in America
Zebgoraja Holyhell the steel probably from canada, even the wood, tvs are either from japan or korea. Almost every electronic is from China, forget about American made. Most of Americans are not even American made lol.
@@Ho1yhe11 Furrion is a company in Indiana that builds motorhomes and produces all the electronics and stuff other RV companies can use. A lot of them are US made today.
"MADE IN THE USA"...I LOVE IT, TOO !!!
They looks like twins with the matching clothes and grey hair. So cool. My wife would love this one
I swear they are the only major trailer manufacturer that HAS TASTE. GOOD TASTE. These all look top notch, even the basic models. No tacky patterns and ugly wood, only nice finishings.
People are down sizing and living in Airstreams.
+Brah Sumatra either downsize or the bank will reposess your house in no time
eduardo m-v It might be that but it's also about living a simple fun life and living in an airstream would be that.
Because housing is expensive as hell , better to get one of.these and go wherever you want . Ideal to me
Downsizing???? This thing cost more than a 3 bedroom house in dallas
I want one for my back yard
Marvelous!
i just love jay's garage.keep 'em coming.
Now this show...i would have watched every night.
AIRSTREAM IS A GREAT AMERICIAN COMPANY !!!
+danieljohnfleet With very overpriced products.
Yeah that trailer was only 4x the price of other new trailers..... just think how many aluminum cans of beer that is.....
I wasn't surprised to hear $130-140k price tag. You can buy a vintage country home with property for that amount.
Jay really gives a darn...thank-you Jay !..
this guy really sounded relaxed but at teh same time he tried to push all the features of the trailer, the designer of corvette is by far the best one. He really sounded like he has a passion for them.
Jay what's up man how you been I used to see quite frequently when I lived in Burbank. Hope things are good these days nights whatever they are
"It's the hot water heater."
"Oh, cool."
I love the idea of covering the stove and kitchen sink with a counter top - the flat counter space is ingenious!! The limited working space around the stove and sink is always a problem. This design would make cooking and baking an absolute joy!
My wife and I went to tour the airstream factory last fall. Very cool. Stop by at 2 pm any weekday to check it out. I-75 exit 102 in Ohio.
I got airstream camper and I love it I'm not mistaken I think it's from the 80s it still looks good and he's a little bit cleaning
why all the hate on Mr Leno? What did you expect? He was behaving "as if" he was a "regular" person looking at this for the first time, giving the guy a chance to explain what everything is..I don't get it? Oh well...negativity is it's own reward...have a rotten day.
Jay didn't seem too impressed. No usual laughter and jokes...
It was always my dream since childhood to be able to camping in an Airstream. They are awesome.
Made 20 minutes from my home here in Sidney Ohio. I have friends that work there and my Grandfather used to deliver them in the mid 60s. I know Bob Wheeler as well. COOL!
The people that write rotten things on these sites like the Gerry Nightengale guy is just so mind boggling to me. It doesn't even make sense. Until the advent of You Tube trolls I had no idea how many weird angry and dumb people there were. And they are perfectly willing to announce it to the world. I wish I still didn't know.
Anyway...Airstreams are cool. Even if your not a trailer guy. Good is good.
This was something my mother astutely pointed out in the mid 90s to me when people were first starting to use the internet. She realized the lower more awkward/psychotic/socially deranged portion of society that was generally kept in the shadows could easily mask themselves online through its anonymity and our natural presumption of normality in people. We tend to assume the people we communicate with online are like the people we meet in reality but online all the crazies who would be obvious to us and driven out of social situations can act like they are normal here.
The trolls really are just scumbag humans who tend to stay indoors and not interact with humanity in any other way. You wouldn't take them seriously for a second in person.
Chris n Epidemic
You're both correct in your observations. It's been absolutely shocking to see the hate, stupidity and general meanness that is out there, I'd love to come across some of these people in person.
Chris Dunne I couldn’t agree more. It’s unbelievable how many people are just chomping at the bit to say something negative, hurtful and spiteful.
That was good can I copy and paste that?
LOL ... before the advent of the internet those angry guys were writing letters to the editor in their local paper every day.
l saw one at a show where the whole ass end was hinged and turned into a toy hauler,,
Whoa!
I worked at a car dealership that also sold these. The most annoyingly idiosyncratic people shop for these and can drive ya insane, but they are really nice. It’s like a nice hotel room on wheels.
Excellent insight on America’s favorite and best trailers...fascinating 👍 thanks
I kind of want to live in this. It'd probably be a lot cheaper than buying a house down here.
stunning, masterful build quality.
These land yachts are amazing, I've seen a few inside.
These trailers are an example of classic American design - like an Eames lounge chair it will alway be symbol of style and quality. If ever my numbers come in...
People need to stop pointing out that a tv is "flat screen"... 6:28.
agreed. flat screen has been standard since like 2005.
Haha! I know. If it wasn't a flat screen, that would be something to talk about!
people from that generation never will & its easy to understand
Lou C "Genuine solid state components!"
It's about time !
"6200lbs - oh yeah, about 3 tons..."
This seriously would'nt work in the uk! lol
Love Love my Airstream . Plus it'll be around for kids after I'm done ! Smile every single time I get inside and start getting ready to go out camping .
Freaking awesome I've alway love those they are so cool
I was looking at this very optimistically but then i heard $130-140k ......... WOW. I could buy a very nice house for that.
Many retired folks sell their house and buy one of these. And the value stays strong in one of these trailers because people will be looking to buy it 30 years from now. There's a reason you can't say that about the glitzy competition.
American made you pay for quality
Barrett Abney I didn’t know that most retirees sell their homes to buy airstream. Interesting. I bought my home in 2002 1600 square feet for 125,000. Maybe I should do the same.
Ok, I know I live in California but WHERE IN THE HELL CAN YOU GET A "NICE HOUSE" FOR $130K?
Martyr104 where?
I installed the doors on this trailer
Brandon Davis Nice job, Brandon; I'd be proud to have my name associated with this.
Brandon Davis good thing you didn't do the plaque ;)
+Brandon Davis i thought something about the doors looked shitty
he installed the door I did all of the hard work drilled all the holes and installed every rivet lol
I made the aluminum from scratch for this trailer.
Wow. Jay Leno seemed really into this Air Stream. Did he just wake up from a nap? Hahaha!
Boy... when Jay said he wasn't into camping he wasn't kidding!
Jay rocks. Does it bug anyone else when a plaque is offset? Land Yacht is not straight. Bugs me to death.
No idea what you're talking about.
WAIT TILL YOU MOVE IN...IF SOMETHING BOTHERS YOU, DON'T LOOK AT IT...AT LEAST IT ROLLS TO THE BEST SCENIC MOUNTAIN VIEWS,
AWAY FROM HUMANITY'S HEMORRHOIDS LIKE ME AND THE NEIGHBORS...
My house is the size of its restroom....
Love this thanks for sharing
Jay GodBless you & America 🇺🇸
That would be nice to live in because its so luxurious in the interior
Is it just me or is the nameplate not parallel?
close up it looks crooked but the long shots you can see it is straight
omg...that bothered the heck out of me!
so it should
roger smith
It’s a blessing AND a curse having OCD! 🙃
@Wes 76 Richard Nixon helped here
I doubt that a 1500 truck can pull this. After it is loaded down.
Jay G. You'd be betting wrong ,I have 3 pick ups of various ages/weight rating & motor size amd all 3 will pull my Air Stream ,My 1999 1500 WT with the 4.2 6 cyl Vortec pulls it just fine around the state at 60 mph ,my 2003 1500 with the 4.8 V8 Vortec and heavy duty hybrid factory transmission pulls that thing effortlessly at passing speeds ,even my wife's little Colorado will pull it just fine within a 50 mile radius of our home ,which comes in handy because our summer house is 42 miles away from our winter house in the city ,I wouldn't go cross country with the 4.6 6 cylinder pulling it but the 4.8 V8 I would pull it a thousand miles easily .
The towing capacity of the 2018 Ford F-150 ranges from 5,000 lbs. to 13,200 lbs. depending on how the vehicle is configured. www.ford.com/trucks/f150/features/Capability/f150-towing-capacity/
Absolutely not. Now an F-150 will.
The engine might pull it... it's the braking that I'd worry about.
I don't like having the trailer weighing more than the tow vehicle.
Maybe a single cab base trim 4x2 half ton. A big maybe there.
I would love to have one of these , they look so retro. It would be fun!
Jay Leno, so down to earth seems like a cool 😎 person. Oh yeah...and luv The Airstream 💯
I did notice that he was wearing clothes from the Jay Leno collection, but he forgot the denim shirt. It's a bold fashion statement but a blind rat can see that only Jay pulls it off. A for effort buddy but stepping up to Leno without full denim will always amount to a loss.
#Jayworeitbetter
On that power table- You just know some jackass is gonna get their head caught between the seat while the table is descending and sue the crap out of the company.
shomolya I mean, some people prefer a little luxury. Personally, I don't care either way, but that's just me.
+shomolya All the automation is very nice once you start living in your trailer full time and the little things you didn't mind when you did them over the weekend maybe once a month at most get old quickly. Also it's not easier or quicker to do that manually.
+El JepA Yes! This. Besides, I'm sure there is some sort of safety built-in to prevent harming anyone, much like a car's automatic windows do now.
+UsernameUser im PRETTY SURE it doesn't push down, instead it just lets go of supporting it up
Yep, some sibling decides to pin her brothers head down between the seat an that table an there you have a sad story.
Excellent presentation! I am considering one of those as an alternative lifestyle
Sweet looking trailer. I've always admired the Airstream travel trailer. Particularly the 1960s through the 1980s.
"flat screen TV" - actually it's hard to buy any tube Tv's, so why he is so excied of this?
My dad dreamed about when he retired he would buy one spent his weekend mapping vacation trips to the national parks
But he spent the money he was saving putting me through college and never lived to make his dreams come true!!
Requiscat impace meggs’s padre
al meggs That's tragically sad!
in. Is my dream house . I'd leave in this for the rest of my life. I love the camping life.
Nice. Amazed it can be pulled with a 1/2 ton pickup.
Great camper...But you know what sad is??..The enthusiasm that Leno show toward this camper...Airstream's have been around for forever, and make a excellent camper, you'd think Leno would show alittle more excitement towards the product considering he ask them to be on his show..
Let's face it, non-motorized vehicles aren't exactly in Jay's wheelhouse. I thought he was respectful and a good sport about it.
My father built this thing! The cabinets anyway.
I invented the aluminum that was used in this camper..
God created all the elements used in the materials of this trailer.
Who created the stuff Gods made out of?
I hit the like button for all Jays video within the first 5 seconds of the video, keep it up Mr. Leno, love the cool cars, trucks, and everything related.
another one for the bucket list - live in an Airstream trailer!
mmmm 130k, not sure about that. It's cool, but not THAT cool. For that money I was expecting a much bigger wow factor
You gotta look under the skin to really appreciate and quantify that expenditure. But there is a reason that a 30-year-old Airstream sells for $25,000 - $50,000
@@barrettabney to me the only brand as nice as Airstream would be a newmar dutch star www.steinbring.com/wp-content/uploads/DSC_0732.jpg

That's a beauty.
It's the materials. That flooring ain't cheap!
For that kind of money you can buy a nice Class A.
Not aluminum though!
this is a dream dam great airstream....
I love these old trailers, when your doing 40 it feels like your doing 120mph!!!
He has amazing taste. I absolutely LOVE Airstream's. One day I will have one... One day. Once the lottery gods work with me. I will take my grandbabies on some great adventures. We've got some.roads to travel memories to make so anytime.now lottery gods lol
lol ... Jay you're outta your element on this type of video. Stick to cars man ... (haha)
I couldn't help but grin ...
JAY: (3:12) ... "ah um yeah what is this here ...: that's obviously for ... uh um ...
MAN: That's the hot water heater lol ...
JAY: (3:34) ... Ah and what do we have here coming outta the side ... uh um (scratching his head)
MAN: This is the awning lol
JAY: (5:20) ... And what is that up there ... domestic ...
MAN: "That's the air conditioners. Two of them!!"
AND THE BEST OF ALL ....
JAY: (5:40) ... this reminds me of a hotel ...
MAN: A nice hotel I hope ...
Jay was like ... are you kidding me, slick ... this is a flipping roach motel compared to where I stay!!!!
$130,000.00 for this trailer ... that's what I pay per night at my hotels ... get a life!! LOL
Lmaoooooo
LOL, I thought Jay was just being aloof but now you point it out I see the sarcasm. If you add up all the expenses of owning an RV, figure the per-day expense you might find you are spending hundreds of dollars per day for a crap "house" that is likely to burst into flames and kill you. I wonder how much safer American roads would be if RVs didn't exist, RVs might be chiefly responsible for the "summer season" of increased highway fatalities.
datdereduck how many times do you see, or hear about fatalities caused by an rv or camper? More people die on motorcycles, in plain crashes, or even just daily driving in their cars.. I don't understand your comment?
devon groff (how many times do you.."
Anytime, I read highway fatality statistics Devon. Just cause your television doesn't broadcast RV death multimedia presentations doesn't mean they don't exist.
I thougth he was disappointed wiith this thing. Me too. Not gonna lie
Nice craftsmanship, love the teak and white wood floors.
Oh man, I love it.
3:21 why would you heat hot water?
If the hot water wasn't hot enough, you would need to heat it?
jdwelborn so you dont waste water waiting for it to come out hot
you can stay in a lot of hotels for $70k
Don't forget that when you sell your rv, you recoup some of that investment. No threat of bedbugs in your rv, clean sheets you know where they have been. Home cooking everywhere you go, .....
Hey, at the end of the day its your money. More power to you. Have fun and good luck to you.
A lot of hotels cost more than 70K night!
***** I just bought an motorhome
***** that's too funny :D
I love those airstreams........
Love it. Beautiful!!!
