Haven't seen the movie myself, but the reviews and spoiler-filled summaries I've seen about it have very much given off the impression that they decided to make a prequel to an origin story instead of just making the origin story.

The best thing about this movie is the fact it gave HISHE a reason to bring back the “here’s a bright idea” guy
I loved that scene when the villain was like "How did you know?" and Madame Web responded with "I checked it on the web." I had tears in my eyes...

I didn't love this movie, I didn't hate this movie. I didn't enjoy it as much as the Venom movies, but it was more enjoyable than Morbius. The problem is Sony is still trying to make a live-action Spider-Verse without Garfield as Spider-Man, & instead they are making movies about the villains & side characters.
