For Manga and Light Novel readers, we all know the truth 😂 But my interpretation is that Maomao does have a liking towards Jinshi but she distances herself to him before it even get to anything. With the way she was raised and how it went between her parents, it's understandable why love is such an insignificant concept to her. Looking forward to her healing. Our boy, Jinshi, needs sooooo much patience. lol!
This is a pretty good story, I also read the manga and her relationship with Jinshi developed well. In fact Spoiler alert : Maomao is the biological daughter of a high ranking noble in empire. Her father is a military commander later become military Grand Marshal. In manga her father already know about Maomao and asked Jinshi to hand over Maomao to him. While Jinshi is the only son of current Emperor and former Consort / Lady Ad-huo but due to some reasons he was raised as emperor's younger brother to hide his true identity as Emperor heir. Jinshi don't know about his true identity too. He only know that he is emperor's younger brother
Actually is far more complicated because MaoMao HATES the idea of being in that situation since being with Jinshi will bring a lot of bothersome stuff to her ”peaceful” life. She even denies Jinshi the chance to talk about it to her cuz she doesn't want t get involved. Jinshi gets desperate too and I read from the WN and LN is not a nice situation.

The web novel is the ”original” but a lot of people prefeers the Light Novel. As far as I know no, Mao Mao isn't forced to marry anyone, the novel has more political stuff and mysteries going around rather than that kind of plot.

for me its better for her to like Jinshi after 50-100 episodes just so I can enjoy more of their bickering and Jinshi’s cute and possesive jealousy 😂😂😂 once MaoMao likes him back I guess its over for me as everything will be predictable from there on or it could turn into a more serious tone. This anime reminds me of Fushigi Yuugi, first few episodes was all about fun and games, but once the FL leads admitted liking the ML, all the succeeding chapters became so serious not that I dont like it, but all the funny scenes had lessen significantly.
