It's horrible. I wish someone at least could get the kids some netting to sleep under, if there's SO MUCH flies there. Here in Norway I perhaps see that many flies during the "warm period" in a year. And this child have like a swarm of them stuck on her face.. 😞

There is hope that affected areas in punjab Gilgit, balochistan and kpk will be restored and helped. Governments in these areas of any political party is far more answerable to the people. But the government of sindh where this is filmed is another story all together. It is without doubt the most ruthless and curropt gov. It’s held up by a cruel system of landlords owning thousands of acres and behaving as tiny fiefdoms instead of a functioning government. These people will suffer for decades.

Maybe if the local government weren't spending money on bribes and their own personal interests, the province would actually have the money to support development.
Excluding Karachi (a barren strip of desert which was turned into one of the most productive industrial and finance based areas in the subcontinent thanks to Muhajirs), the rest of Sindh can be summed up in one word: pathetic.

@@sp1d3rm0nk3y33 dude, right on spidermonkey 🙌 you are absolutely right, those rotten dates are on their way to being awesome conpost! Decomposition just makes better and better! The only drain over time would be the goodies/nutrients being redisteibuted by insects, which still enriches ecology SOMEWHERE at SOMEPOINT, but yeah, successions of microbes just leads to better and better nutrients for plants, running towards "humus" . Palm plants broadly actually have quite a legacy in gardening/horticulture, especially considering "coconut coir" (husk fiber) from coconuts 😉 also, our best medicines come from plants, and the only reason they are illegal is so that someone can make more dangerous derivatives, patent them, and sell them to people or (darker) withhold them and control us 💙🌿

People often believe that poverty is correlated with high fertility rates, but this is only the half truth. We are accustomed to thinking of rural, poor people as reckless baby-makers, as if they are having children for fun, but this is not the reality.
When those in poverty are deciding whether or not to procreate, they often assess amount of money to be made from having more children (who can help with work, or go to a gov./humanitarian-set up school and get educated) is more than the amount of money lost from having to take care of those children.
In other words, for most of Pakistan's existence, it's been more profitable to have children, which is why despite the population boom, the average income of most Pakistanis has increased since partition by over 15 fold. But now, with the megafloods, horrible inflation, a political crisis and high debt, having children is going to be costlier in the long term so the country will face depopulation sooner than expected, by around 2060-2080.

I feel that it's high time products are levied emission tax, so people won't keep over consuming stuff from the other end if globe and being in blissful ignorance that they have no part in the emissions from its production and shipping. That will probably reinvigorate consumption of local products and would encourage companies to make finished goods in the source area, instead of growing a fruit in one continent, shipping it to another to peel or juice it and then ship to another to package it into for different companies and then sell then in another country.

Infact taking raw materials and diverting the larger income of finished production to some other country is a trademark of colonialism.

There's no proof at all that this is climate change that caused a flood. In Europe we recently had a drought. Guess what, the same drought happened roughly 70 years ago. When there's drought one place theres too much rainfall in another. It happens and its nothing new. The journalists blame climate change for it but despite being a Msc Environmental Science student I've yet to see anything suggesting that global warming would cause this specifically. We have only data showing some badly specified temperature increase with a massive uncertainty attached, we can't even say what temperature increase it is, it's basically a qualified bunch of guesswork. The climate models can't accurately portray anything yet so how could we possibly know if the one degree change in temperature or thereabout could be the cause or not? We haven't even recorded data for very long yet. Accurate data is only available for relatively recent time frames. Making definite conclusions on causes of droughts or floodings is just not realistic. But if scientists were sent there to analyze the situation i bet it could be determined what REGIONALLY is to blame for the severety of the flood. The soil and land management would have to be looked at and i doubt that mono culture palm tree farms are particularly great for the local environmental resilience. And perhaps they had meddled with the flow of the river and the natural areas around it that could have otherwise functioned as a buffer for flooding. Almost all rivers globally were straightened and the surrounding lands shaped by humans and that typically increases odds of things going wrong. The barren mountains around that area certainly worsen the situation. It's not a Pakistan specific issue actually. In Germany there were massive floods not long ago as well, in fact in an area i used to live in.
