    Addiction is a powerful disease. It tells you you're alright, when you're not. It tells you it's not so bad, when it is. It tells you everyone is against you, when they really care. It says you can quit tomorrow, and tomorrow never comes. It tells you to give up, and you do.
    I have always embraced Layne's journey and his transparency along the way. Sad and hard as it is to accept. The sadest part of addiction is those who are left behind to those who were taken. I miss Layne along with so many others.
    If you have a person in your life with substance use challenges please keep reaching out to them...dont give up on them...let them know you're there...meet them where they are at, in a non judgemental way...dont preach...dont put them down...just love them and ask what you can do to be helpful.
    26 years clean and sober. Still remember how hard it was to get help.
    Peace and love to all...especially those who are feeling lost...please dont give up.

    For a man who wrote a lot of gut wrenching, soul bearing songs, this might be his saddest. It’s him basically begging himself to snap out of this and that he knows he’s letting himself go down a path that there’s no coming back from.

      I always wonder if he knew just how much he was truly loved. He wasn't just loved for his talent, but also his soul. Just incredibly humble and amazing. It's nutts that this was just a few years after he was at The Moore singing Love Hate Love, healthy and still physically beautiful. Addiction is the cruelest soul sucking enemy next to things like cancer. It really is a disease of the brain. Peace to his soul.

      I think he knew... but at some point he didn't give a damn. It's not even about his addiction - it's his inner demons that pushed him in that direction. I know cause my own pushed me into cigarettes (you'd think it's not that big of a deal, but when I hit 18 I was a staunch anti-smoker, four years later and here I am). At some point you stop caring, when you're down in a hole (pun very much intended), there's no one and nothing. You might be surrounded with people you consider friends - but you're alone, separated. There is no connection. No one can connect to whatever is going around in your head. This is a battle that you either pick up on your own, or you give up at some point and there is no return beyond that. Lucky for me I got saved just in time

      StrikerUSS I hear ya brother. I idolized this man as a kid. I even did a report on him in school. I still remember the day they found him and they announced it on the radio. I won’t forget it. I also said I wouldn’t do heroin because of him but at 18 till 27 I have battled it. It’s a fight I have to deal with everyday. It doesn’t go away, it doesn’t let you forget, it will stay with you forever. Honestly the only reason I have touched it the last few years is because it’s all fentanyl or cut heavy with it. I don’t want to die but have made peace with it if it comes. I want to go out on my terms, and fentanyl is not the way. Keep your head up man, it’s hard but know there are millions of us just like you

      It was said that his bandmate Sean as well as other musicians did try to help. They would show up to his place almost everyday but Layne wouldn't talk to them. I do wonder if they would've called the police to do the wellness check sooner rather than later if he would've lived longer. Maybe to an intervention on him.

    • @JOY-ye2us
      @JOY-ye2us 2 месяца назад

      @@Aprilpie13 I know now if you think someone is going to harm themselves or if you have a concern because that person is suicidal or using hard drugs you can call 911 and they will do a wellness check or if you are highly concerned you can 302 them and the cops or paramedics will breakdown that door. And now they have things like *Narcan that you use as a nose spray and that will reverse all of the drugs in their system. Your pharmacist will give you the nose spray for free no questions asked so if someone you know is in a dangerous situation like Layne and so many others during that time ~ you should carry it with you or in a place that is easy to get to. May God rest his soul in peace . He was such a sweet guy it seemed and I think he had a lot of surviver’s guilt after his girlfriend passed away and if you’re a nice , kind, caring person it’s very hard to live with that. 💕🌷🙏

      @@Aprilpie13 No, the last person he let in was Mike Starr, possible the last day he was alive. His liver was failing, he was in severe pain. The only reason they did a welfare check was that the person in change of his finances hadn't seen a withdrawl for 2 weeks and called his Mom. He had multiple interventions, several stints in rehab.

    This is incredible music. And Layne Staley is incredibly honest. We all have had some gut-wrenching moments. But addiction is a whole other animal. I was a typical 20 something party person in the 90s. Booze, weed, LSD, coke and meth a bit. When I met my husband. Who was superficially passing as recreational. But had some legal issues with meth possession. And a real life problem with drugs. Anyhow, this whole WAKE UP business is real. For my husband it was court ordered rehab or 3 months prison, and I was surprised he went for rehab. But he pulled it. 20 years sober this year 2022. And we have a great life! So if this is you or a partner in addiction situation, please just do the steps. They work. Hold on. Hold on to hope. Believe you deserve better. You do.

This must have been so damaging for Layne - I'm sure that this pushed him down the slippery slope of addiction. Add to this Demri's death and you have a perfect storm. What a loss. I wish he had been able to walk the harder path..the painful path...the living path. For whatever reason he chose to ride the horse to it's natural conclusion.. he would have known where he would end up.. yet he chose to continue dying rather than face the pain of life. Such a pity.. the man was a true talent..one of my favourite vocalists of all time. I hope you are at peace now brother...thanks for all of the beauty you brought to the world.

      Me2. Ive never understood why either. There are some parallels between him and me; same age -(Staley was 8months older than me) i came from the better side of town like him and hung out with working class kids cuz i fit in 1000x better with them than i did my private school buddies, but private school fed my 132IQ and kept me out of trouble. I never used any opiates until a few weeks after Staley's death. I blew out a lumbar disc and the psin was unbearable, so i started taking vicodins..then percocet..then oxycodone straight, then good ol fashioned heroin/fent. That was 16yrs ago. I wont let myself just fall apart the way he did though, i almost did, but my wife wouldn't let me deteriorate thst way. I think if Demri had lived then she wouldve done the same for Layne too.

      It'll be 10 years for me on October 26th. I've spent maybe 5 or 6 months (collectively) in that 10 years not strung out on tar. I was just arrested for the first time in my 30 years 2 months ago, and a few weeks after that almost lost 2 fingers to a 60 unit speedball miss. The consequences are really starting to rack up at this point. I'm really gonna try and walk the straight n narrow this go 'round...but it's fuckin rough. Kinda forgot how to live without this shit.

    Layne is the best example I know of how addiction completely takes over you mind body and soul. For those who believe that addiction is a character flaw you are sadly mistaken. Simply put it a a family disease but the deeper issue is spiritual. Demons are real and addiction is one doorway they choose to suck the life out of “the host”, family, and society. No amount of treatment for this “relapsing brain disease” can fix what can only be lifted by God’s grace and mercy. Layne I hope you made peace with God and that Demri helped you find peace in the spiritual realm. May good bless your soul in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
