I think you're one of the best channels. I'm more of an indie rock/indie pop artist and your tutorials really are helpful regardless. It's not specific to genre, it's about just music and processes. I love all these videos
100% I was about to say that irrespective of genre (and I'm not a huge EDM fan although have no objections to it) Big Z just _is_ the greatest production tutorial video maker out there.
I've started watching these videos recently and I'm learning so much. Especially coz you're not just teaching Tips & Tricks, you're teaching concepts. BIg up from Kenya!
Your channel is a veritable trove of information in regard to production without the complexities involved. Subbed about a week ago and have already begun both recommending it to a select few producers and engineers and testing out your methods too which are Ace. Well done on the no BS channel amongst so many channels that are full of it. Look forward to seeing your future work 👍👍👍
Been producing for a while now, but never thought about using the make up gain on a EQ. You truly are a great teacher man, can't wait to support other packs from you as well. Thanks Big Z!
Unfortunately, the autogain on Pro Q3 always adds too much gain so it's still too hard to compare. Same happens with the Pro C2. It would be incredible if these became more accurate in the next updates!
about make up gain: i think the uploader didnt explain it well, so here's my tip: put on youlean (or any other plugin like that) on the track and check the volume on the plugin with and without eq. Another tip: always check peak for eqing if they are really pointy, but be careful, because sometimes they actually add a lot to the sound's carachter so you should not cut those out in that case.
Thanks Sir! Once again super clear, super helpful. Btw, I have been struggling to use the "auto-level compensation" button of the Q3 and I see that you don't use it neither. Any particular reason? I had the feeling that I was losing some dynamics using it but I think it's placebo effect, maybe it's just not precise enough.
dope video dude! I use fab filter Q all the time, and didn't know about the gain makeup thing lol. If you ever need some vocals for a track, hit me up!
Isn't it more natural to cut frequencies and boost the gain than boosting with the EQ? 🤔 Maybe today's EQs are so much better but I recall people talking about artifacts getting added while boosting.
Case could be made that he should be using linear phase eq when he’s using any steep curves or dips/boosts. But linear phase does add latency so maybe that’s why he doesn’t.
hey, I've a little bit of a complicated question. How do you make your music sound as loud as tracks on spotify for instance? When I for instance export my track and compare it to songs on spotify it just sounds like my track is -10 db lower. What is the trick behind it? I do EQ, I mix the levels, I add a limiter, but what do you need to do in order to make it sound as if it was the same level? I really don't understand it. I just don't get it.
Saturation. Tape gets you a few more db if perceived loudness. Also subtractive EQ with compression will create more room. More room = more perceived loudness.

This video should be sponsored by FabFilter. Literally buying that EQ from this video alone. Good work homie!
Stumbled across this channel. .awesome .

That A Button next to the bypass button on pro q is an auto gain button, automatically adding or reducing gain based on adjustments
This is the best thing i watch about eq ever on youtube !!! WOW MAN WOW !!
5:32 you can try auto gain match A symbol in pro Q3 , maybe turn on natural phase depending on what u like👍🏻.
Btw Nice tutorial :)

I love how this guy is always smashed
Why don't you use auto gain feature?
Great tutorial by the way.
I was thinking that too
The auto gain feature on most plugins sounds pretty bad to me

What's Up Z? Use the "A" button on the down right to activate auto gain option instead of adding make up manually, it's faster and more accurate.
YOU'RE THE BEST BIG Z😍
You can also use auto gain on the Farbfilter plug-in ;)
@DeeJay1210 Yes...click the A button.
Brilliant thanks mate

One question came to my mind: How is the wisest way of training my ears in order to identify if a certain sound contains harsh frequencies?
dope video dude! I use fab filter Q all the time, and didn't know about the gain makeup thing lol.

BIG LIKE.
also whats the difference between a filter and eq?
Do you have check phase problem with thé low cut ?
Hey Big Z Iike This Video.
Good titorial....
Could u do home recorded rap vocals

hey how did you straighten up the cutt around 1:32 ?
Only difference by boosting is that you color the sound right?
You don't color a sound with a Linear EQ
how did he make it dynamic for the vox? good vid
Whats the songs name please? I can't find it on spotify! 🤷🏻♂️
Yes please 😅song title?
How are you determining how much makeup gain to use on the EQ? I was hoping for an explanation on that
Yo whats good - what does that mean? not native english speaker here
Big Z brother I need your help urgently plsss :(
Is this track out?
Been wondering myself… did you find out?
Hey Z, why do not use the linear phase in q3?

CAN SOMEONE HELP ME WITH MY MIXING AND TRACKS? I USE ABLETON LIVE. THAT'S THE ONE THAT ISN'T VERY COLORFUL. LOL

Saturation, SSL G Bus compressor (vintage vca in Logic), Oxford inflator
Or, you put down the Fabfilter and use an SSL EQ like every *actual* professional engineer.
a pro wouldn't mix in solo
