Like asking an AI to generate an image by listing things that may be seen in a bathroom, but it looks like it's in a padded cell, very sterile and unwelcoming. If the developer had that in mind, I think that's a genius part of the horror relating to this specific fear that might get easily overlooked

When I was in my 20s I was asleep one night. I was usually a deep sleeper but something woke me up. Couldn’t see very much in my room. Just darkness and a bit of shadows from a little light coming through the curtains from the light pole on the street. I look down at the foot of my bed and see someone crouching there! This was one of only a handful of true “fight or flight” moments I’ve had in my life. Without thinking I dive off my bed and tackle the person. Except it wasn’t a person. It was a huge pile of dirty laundry (because I was a slob back then). I remember being relieved I didn’t have to fight a home invader but also embarrassed with myself. I cleaned my room the next morning. Never had a lurking dirty clothes pile since. 😂😂😂😂😂

Now thats a pretty nifty idea. It presents itself as a horror game, but only acts like it if you treat it as one. Taking a shower like you arent expecting someone to murder you if you close your eyes for more than 5 seconds gets you a shower, but acting paranoid and constantly checking your corners gets you jumpscared.
Yeah it really encapsulates what it's like to have anxiety or paranoia. That which you fear only hurts you when you acknowledge its existence. That's quite literally what anxiety and paranoia is.
@@panthekirb7561most likely because it was very sudden, whole game gave not tense vibe before and even felt slightly like a joke and you'd rather expect monster peeking at you or smth, instead you randomly get jumpscared out of nowhere, this doesn't need to be loud to be effective
This offers an nifty concept for a longer horror game: A monster that becomes more dangerous the more you look for it. Although that raises the problem of the game being too easy if the player figures out the gimmick. Maybe the monster poses a little bit of threat even by default, and the player needs to do _something_ to defend themselves, but not be overly cautious. That could lead to interesting gameplay decisions: "Should I be blindly brave, or make sure I am safe now at the cost of making things worse later?", and to that sweet, sweet paranoia fuel that makes horror games good.
Take a look at It Steals, it's a game from the Lethal Company dev, and has very interesting experimental mechanics that are partly similar to what you described
I think something like that [adaptive monsters] is in Alien: Isolation. You can do things like throw distractions, and later blast a flamethrower (which simply scares the Xenomorph rather than harm it), but if you get too comfortable using them, the Xenomorph starts learning and building a resistance. Some sort of anti-paranoia game could be interesting though.
This... Kinda happens in Resident Evil. You can choose to be "blindly brave" by charging past the zombies and narrowly avoiding (or not) getting grabbed, or you can ensure that you're safe by killing them, knowing that they will eventually get back up as the far more powerful crimson heads.
Having a photo for the creature's face while the rest of the scenery is so low-detail made it a lot more startling, if that was an intentional decision by the dev, it was definitely effective 👍

I only shower with the door closed because apartments and houses have drafts, you know air that travels and with the door open you can feel the draft during and after the shower so I trap the temp in the bathroom. Me and my wife shower both room door open and close and we come and go into the bathroom during showers all day long. I think it's sort of instinctual to close the door because it's built into us "Just in case of danger" and we grow up with family and such so we close the door, so ok makes sense as far as habit goes. But it is a little bit of paranoia if you feel like you HAVE to shower with the door closed. If your door is locked, nobody is home, nobody has a key etc and you have not encountered like a weirdo creeping in your window or such, what are you afraid of? Everyone should be cautious not scary. Caution is checking your locks and windows before bed, caution is owning a fire arm and learning to use it. Paranoia is thinking someone is watching you all the time, always keeping a barrier between you and virtually nothing, waking up at night and rechecking your doors and windows multiple times, especially if you've not gone through anything traumatic to cause this involving a stalker or such.
The scariest thing about all this is the tiled floor and the lack of a shower curtain, you could slip and hurt yourself. Otherwise, I’d give that spooky man a whole cabaret show.
Ugh, bad memories. I went for pretty much a whole decade scared of washing my hair because of the movie The Grudge and the scene with the hand coming out of the hair. I've become somewhat resistant to scary stuff but I still remember that irrational fear.
Yeah there's definitely a period for most kids where they shouldn't be exposed to adult horror things because it can create very real lasting anxiety. I saw part of The Ring when I was small and I think it permanently damaged my sleep schedule

It's because you can't focus properly when you feel someone's eyes on you. Being watched is usually unpleasant feeling, you either feel you will be judged or that you're in danger in most cases
