What did you think of the music? - "well it exists"
oni su potekli iz jugoslovenskog komunizma, nista njima nije strano tamo, imam njihova prva dva lpa. Pozrdav iz Beograda.
LEGENDE!!
This reality of performance reminds me of another controversial band/song Prodigy/ Mindfields. The band, audience and we as observerers are walking through somewhat dangerous ideas in a benign form that is art of music.
in north korea people sit down on chairs when rock stars play concert
They all like stones!!
I hope North Korea does this more often
Small step for Laibach, big step for North Korea! Congrats guys!
im feeling proud to be slovenian!
Right??
Everyone at the concert seem very very confused. lol
+Ricardo Rick They were stunned that songs can exist that don't mention anyone in the Kim family. It's like the chupacabra walked up and bitchslapped them across the face.
Agreed, I bet they were only invited to show the dark side of our music
The music of Laibach is confusing even to most Westerners, so I don't think that's a suprise at all.
Look at Kraftwerks first ever recorded live gig, the faces in the crowd are pretty similar at times! ruclips.net/video/vNoFHdlMrtI/видео.html
They have awful lot to chew on and their future (and their families) depend on it. And they are watching trolls that play on authoritarianism so ... what would your reaction be in their place. I say it is very cruel and unusual joke/punishment. Or some serious metatrolling from their Great Leader.
0:31 I've worked with enough contemporary and experimental music to know that this is a really polite way of saying he didn't like it.
Also I lost it at 0:12 Thank you to whoever made this bizarre event happen.
"Laibach and North Korea's first Western concert"
Not true. In 1989 a Finnish rock band called Sielun Veljet played in NK's capital.
I suppose background research is too difficult for BBC
Assiman And Madredeus, a Portuguese fado band, played there in the same year.
João Quintela And I forgot to mention another Finnish rock 'n roll group Peer Günt who also played in NK.
So yeah.
And how could anyone have forgotten a giant of music such as Sielun Veljet ?
Laibach are from Slovenia, which is classed as Eastern Europe.
@@COwens No, Slovenia is Central Europe
Haha... of all the bands in the world this one is the only one that was allowed in there... priceless. And it fits perfectly. Now, this either happened because Kim Jong Un has a sense of humour and is able to laugh at himself (doubt it). Or it happened because North Koreans are all so isolated and uptight, that even the concept of sarcasm is foreign to them.
+Emmanuel Goldstein They don't understand the concept of irony in North Korea, that's for sure. This wasn't just a simple concert, this was an art project with the whole of North Korea as the stage.
+Emmanuel Goldstein Yep, of all the bands in all the world it ended up being Laibach. Sometimes life does throw up some real irony that you can only just smile at.
Well done Laibach for pulling it off though.
+Emmanuel Goldstein I don't understand. Do you believe this is a joke or something? This concert is a real occurrence. What's your problem?
kurzackd
It appears your capacity for irony is right 'down there' with the N. Koreans?
+Emmanuel Goldstein - it's a bit more like if you've been saying that the outside world is decadent, confused, aimless, and dangerously anarchic, then you'd better pick a particularly extreme example to prove your point with - you don't want people saying "that wasn't as bad as I expected". I take it Laibach realized that's what's up, too - they seemed to be performing a particularly restrained show by Laibach standards. Even so, the audience was clearly baffled and confused by the whole thing, and being as polite as they possibly could about it, bless them. The audience does seem like a lot of very nice folks - I do hope the North Koreans eventually get a chance to realize what the context to Laibach's act is, so they can catch the punchlines to the whole thing.
Laibach. Like Wine, gets better at age.
in 20 years every north korean will claim they were here...
You assume that the Kim regime will be gone by then. That’s a big ‘if’.
Audience bemused, some enjoying, one bloke had fingers stuffed in ears! Fabulous programme, fabulous group.
It's simply wrong to say that they were the first western band to play NK. Go read about the youth festival of 1989 in Pyongyang
respect for laibach and for north korea people
That's right.
ты не веришь в Россию?
@@НиколайАртамонов-ж4е u kojem smislu??
bravo fantje
Watching the documentary was like a kind of wierd dream.
N Korea totally trolled themselves.
Not the first! Billy Bragg and Newtown Neurotics played there in the 80's. Probably others.
Lucky North Koreans who got to see this awesome art performance live.
"they rocked the Crowd "
The Crowd : not even one single smile has been giving .......
The korans were very polite with their dismissal of laibach's music.
Oh my God, look how pumped that crowd is, man. Better watch out before they start a riot up in that bitch.
Much respect to North Korea!
What if some N. Koreans actually knew Laibach was trolling but they played along?
Ćestitke iz Trbovelj
All good just don't let them be tainted by the bullshit we call 'music' in our music charts today
Have you listened to Nork music? Tell me you prefer their ideologically pure schmaltz.
0:37 Classical rocker right here.
Every glimpse I catch of North Koreans makes me feel sad for them. Prisoners of a violent, cruel authoritarian regime which stomps on their personhood continually reminding them that no one matters but the Dear Leader.
Laibach’s coup of performing in Pyongyang is, like so much of their work, endlessly ambiguous.
Seriously the Soviet satellite country to play music? They don’t know English in North Korea
When your manager schedules you a gig in North Korea, that's when you kick the shit out of him and bounce.
Amazing. well, if Laibach can be heard there, then I want other music too! Like this!..Video>>(Nameless-Partir)
That was terrible performance if seriously
Laibach is the definition of Avant-garde art!
Thinking how Kim Jong-Un personally approved this.
Well, I guess we won't know until we know what the"subtitles" above tha stage said?!
Western band comes to NK
North koreans: yeah!
It's laibach
North koreans: f* this, we give up
I know what the faces of the crowd are showing. Fear. If somebody shows emotion, they can be killed, lets face it
aseim2 I only see the politeness and a bit of good old culture shock. Just kidding:) I think they're showing hidden evil. A big giant red evil! Let's nuke 'em!
Gavran Kopitović says "just kidding" and then says something even more ridiculous. typical muslim extremist.
I'm not a muslim dear. it's just your prejudices. On Your profile picture is an idiot. That doesn't mean you're an idiot?
+aseim2 If 'im bored or surprised, certainly it's my fear to be executed. Go to sleep, man.
+Jean Carvalho dude, I lived under the Iron curtain for some time, I know things. You Know Nothing, Jean Snow ;) peace my net brother
Its kind of annoying. North Korea seems to be opening up slowly to the rest of the world and that's probably for the best. Less people will be hurt this way than a liberating war, so slow change is better. But I selfishly and cruelly was hoping for a sudden liberation and to be able to watch North Koreans reactions to the rest of the world.
North Koreans never heard anyone Burp these classics before LMAO
to bravo haha
Mr. kim's favorite tracks.. Du bist unser and Now you will pay.....
North Korea uses many US Disney characters so them hearing Sound of Music isn't a big deal. Kim Jong-Uns favorite celebrity is Dennis Rodman, so their leadership has had US (Western) talent perform.
And Neil Armstrong Moon landing quote, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for Mankind."
But they couldn’t play Climb Every Mountain because as the Slovenian postMarxist philosopher Slavoi Žižek says in Pervert’s Guide To The Cinema that it expresses a capitalistic sentiment. Tito’s censors banned Sound Of Music for that reason.
But south korean is the best concert ever
I hate it.
The first song from "europe" cool, but the rest is some mourning- so it looks here.
audience seems... peaceful
Hmmmmmmm!
whats the name of song 0:38

Well, this certainly was a good way to deter the people of North Korea from western culture.
I'm guessing a bunch of people came here from John Oliver.
If they are going to show a western band to North Korea, could it not be one so dreadfully awful? Please don't say that's a representation of western culture. That concert was a bad mushroom trip 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼
Who do you think should be there?
Go Home, Laibach, you're drunk.
+spoljni saradnik This is good slovenian band so shut up!! And I'm proud I'm Slovenian!
Them having a concert in Pyongyang is in line with the ideology of DPRK's ruling body, according to which the westerners are utter morons. I wouldn't say the audience seems impressed.
Ivan Novak is either delusional or excessively narcissistic to say that, by performing in North Korea, him and his band have made a huge step for humanity.
@@spoljnisaradnik8382: You really think Novak was serious with that remark? Are you totally unfamiliar with Laibach's work?
I heard about this from John Oliver.
Man, they could have chosen a better band with better songs..
Well, that't the catch - there is no better band, hehe.
Laibach is unconventionally catchy, just like some people are unconventionally attractive.
