How crazy is this? “Secret MY Lips” was already a jam on their “Just Bring It” album…so they prank the fans by changing the band name, changed their individual names, and wear incredibly intricate outfits. Then rerecord their song and add traditional Japanese instruments and even alter the dialect of the lyrics. And the fans loved them still. So they did another track, “Gion-cho” as these characters. The fun never ends. The Maids are endlessly creative
A Maiko is a trainee Geisha from Kyoto. This was an April fools joke by the band. On April 1st 2018 the Band-Maid website and You Tube channel was taken down and replaced by Band-Maiko. All music was removed and replaced with this MV. They stated this was their new direction. They also don't sing in normal Japanese dialect, they sing in Kyoto dialect. Check out the original "Secret My Lips" for the difference. They also changed their names: Saiki became Fujiki Miku became Hatoko Kanami became Kanoemi MISA became Umemisa Akane became Akatsuki In 2019 they did it again on April 1st releasing the MV to "Gion-Cho" - the only Band-Maiko original. They also released a seven track EP of Band-Maid covers with added traditional instruments plus "Gion-Cho" "Secret Maiko Lips" (Band-Maids "Secret My Lips") "Akasimahen" (Band-Maids "Awkward") "Ansan" (Band-Maids "Anemone") "Tora and Tora" (Band-Maids "One and Only") "Yolosiosu" (Band-Maids "YOLO") "Screaming" (Band-Maids "Screaming") "Gion Cho" The only band I know that formed a covers band of themselves!
Squirrel, Band-Maid was an April Fools gag on their fans. They announced that Band-Maid was splitting up and a new band Band-Maiko was forming. The did a few songs for the released album. There are some funny as hell outtakes from the making of the videos. One example is that scene where MISA did the "Wooing". There is an after the fact shot of her bending over and laughing her butt off after making it. There is another scene of a documentary about the project, where Akane had to walk up some massive stone stairs in her kimono and some dangerous looking wooden sandals. The look she gave the photographers and the director was, "If I fall in this outfit, somebody's going to die>"
The Maids are not only masters at genre melding, transitions, riff production, structure and execution... they are also masters of cultural melding. Maidiacs are MAIKOACS, too! 😆
The only band on this planet that is on the same level as the Maids and can hold a candle to them. ❤🔥 And by the way, the best April Fool's joke the music industry has ever seen. 🤭🤘🏻 ___________________ 「 _"完璧なんてありえない" / Perfection? No one gets there._ 」 - from *BAND-MAID* - 'Warning' ♬🕊
A few easter eggs - Miku's calligraphy writing at the beginning translates to "World Domination". MISA usually performs barefoot and doesn't sing but wears sandals and howls in this video. Akane not wasting time eating is a nod to her insatiable appetite for noodles. Parts of this song's lyrics were altered from Secret My Lips to reflect Japan's Kyoto dialect (where this video was filmed). MISA and Kanami do a synchronized rock pose after Saiki finishes her slow verse. Also during filming, Kanami dropped her guitar pick but her geisha outfit was so heavy she couldn't reach it and had to get someone to pick it up for her.
This is an April Fools prank on their fans as they reported beforehand the band was reforming and On April 1st this came out. The following years was Band-Maiko "Gion-cho. Maiko (pronounced like Mike-Oh) is an apprentice geiko from Kyoto, geisha's are from Tokyo. Read here: "While they’re known as geisha in Tokyo, in Kyoto the correct term is geiko. Both terms have similar meaning, and can be translated into something like “person of the arts.” Geiko have to spend at least five years in training as a maiko (an apprentice geiko) and continue to train throughout their careers." The traditional Japanese instrument sounds were added in by Kanami and I believe their engineer after the recording.
It's more an April Fool's Day joke than a second band. It only lasted 2 years. But it's not Mako. That' a type of shark. It's Maiko (My-Co), which is an apprentice Geisha. The other April Fool's Day gag was that Miku was going Solo as Cluppo. You should check out her stuff too.

More Band-Maid genius. There is no end to it.

What an Extraordinary Band.
I came across Band Maid at the beginning of the Plandemic 19.
Much love from Canada.
@@mrframeofmind1 Awesome on find the Maids! Oh, and... what a cool handle, Mr. Frame of Mind! I'm sure there's a story behind that.
The best April Fools joke ever played on me......loved every minute of it.

Thanks for the reaction. Band-Maid's been out done by their alter-ego. Hope you check out Gion-Cho. It's as equally, if not more impressive. Cheers!
