When I wanted to play drums as a kid, they said: "a drummer gets all the girls!". Hooray! Happy me! Next thing I knew I was in small bars, sitting in the back and completely out of sight. After the gig, when I was still packing up, the rest of the band hung out with girls. Besides that, it's a fantastic instrument! :)
I love drums mostly because it gives you the opportunity to pick you own parts of the dumset as you like, every drummer will have their own kind of drumset. And your playstyle seems so open for your individualism too because there is no Chopin from hundred years ago to follow, it's just so contemporary and that's some good spirit. Also, you really nailed it with this video man! I feel all the benefits so much in my life and it's so nice to see you mention all of that
It’s amazing to see the flurry of inspiration you conjure up in your viewers. I have no doubt there are people out there who watched this and decided to start their own journey on the drums.
I have been a drummer since I was 2, I am now 14. I subbed to you because you are the best at explaining drums on RUclips, you have great energy and give great vibes. Keep being you Adam! Omg thanks for the heart Adam!!!!!
I am agree!!! Its a huge responsibility to keep the rhythm for all the band and understand the time of every song. Thinking about beats, fills, kick and snare dance, etc. Im suscribed! Love your content!!! Hope to play with you someday!
dude, I love how everything, like literally EVERYTHING u shoot on camera is cohesive and your style. Even your light wood guitar that matches your studio desk top and your rectangles behind u. Inspiring man!
As a psychologist I figured out that I've been managing too much anxiety probably in the most part of my life, not because of a condition, it's more like a personality trait and trust me, playing drums make my life easier in a lot of aspectos, the world can be crashing down but I will be calm if I can play at least one hour per day
I love so much the 'sporty' factor of playing drums. And also the tension is building up by thinking and playing different note values at the same time, for example 8th notes and triplets. Thnx for ur upload, Adam. Greetz from Germany
Your articulation, passion, and presentation makes this a phenomenal video to watch and share with my non-drummer friends. Thank you man for another wonderful piece of content! 🤘🏼
Wow great video! I have been playing drums for most of my adult life and for many years I played professionally in many different situations and got to travel and see a lot of the world. Recently I bought an electronic kit and I enjoy sitting in my living room and playing and this video was right on the money! Thank you!
this the perfect instrument to take all my stress or anything else out on.....after having a drumming session is always been the best part of everyday...its just amazing how your heart just fills up with satisfaction and happiness after playing the drums
When I was 8 years old I wanted to play the drums. My parents werent convinced that this was a good idea or even possible in our envoronment... so they convinced me to take guitar lessons. I love the guitar and it is the instrument I can express myself with musicly but I still love the drums... was always a little jelous of the drummer in the band... and now with 23 years old I give it a shot. In 2 weaks I have my first lesson :) wish me luck
Hey Adam, great lesson as usual. Your artwork and video making is impressive. Great job! Keep it up and a lot of drumming love and big hug from germany!
Hey Adam! As a drummer who has played for around 10 years as a hobby (but passionately), I would also add that drumming helps you even for other activities, like dancing! I started dancing salsa 2 years ago and when I started everyone was so impressed at how much of a fast progress I was making. Drumming helped me firstly because I already had a strong sense of rhythm and secondly because of coordination skills that I already developed before by drumming. I would also say that just as with other instruments, my dancing skills also have helped me with my drumming ones, so I would strongly recommend it for other drummers. They are mutually beneficial!
Hey Adam I'm following you since I was 12 and today I'm a professional Drummer and a junior doctor as I'm 19. And so the way you teach is Bro Just Awesome your My Inspiration and I love the way we both think and Interpret the situations so efficiently cause people like us are rare in this world and I believe that we can change the world's perspective of the way they see the world for Music and about how can we educate people properly so that can understand the importance of Music and Lifestyle. Your videos are always so interesting and cool and helpful. I always feel better after watching one of your videos. It is like a weird mix of learning something new and watching something because you want to. Great points too. I really thought it was interesting to hear about the large drum community. I am still trying to get involved there. I literally just got a FB account. Lol Thank you for your insightful video.
Best Motivational Video to go Play Drums. Thank you brother. A shame some of us have to hear testimony from others before taking action on a desire. I'm working to get better. Peace 🙏☮️
This video made me realize a lot. Thank you so much for all of these. Can I have some recommendations for u all? (sorry for the grammatical errors) I’ve been on drums since I was 12, and btw I’m a church drummer. I’m 17 now and 5 years passed through, but I still couldn’t read notes. Yes I know some of these terminology and techniques, but I know that I’m playing the (quarter notes, or 8th notes, triplets- whatever you may call it but I’m not aware that I was using it.) I just definitely don’t know where to begin but I watched these drum tutorials that sir Adam and the other drummers on youtube taught all throughout the past years. Learning by ear is just, nah I don’t think where it just stops. I really think I’m supposed to be doing something right now.
Dope videos man!! You've helped me a good way on my drumming journey! And you always have interesting new perspectives, it's inspiring. Would be dope if you could make a video on your new cymbals and maybe something bout which cymbals you believe fit well for which genres, which are good live and in the studio etc.
My personal set up - ruclips.net/video/OQGJiX_2H5k/видео.html A tour of my entire cymbal locker (every one that I own, played and reviewed) - content.orlandodrummer.com/gear-masterclasses/videos/adam-s-cymbal-locker
I started playing drums bc my two friend played guitar and bass so I thought they wanna play with me if I played drums. Now 19 year later I’m still playing and have gotten way better over the years. Greatest decision I’ve made.
I've played drums since I was 9. I travelled to America where I studied and got my degree in music, because I play drums. I got my first real job performing on cruise ships for 5 years travelling the world meeting great people, because I play drums. I met an amazing woman in the shows I performed in who became my girlfriend, because I play drums. I'm going to share this video and give anyone a free lesson who feels inspired to learn drums. My life is the way it is, because I play drums. And I wouldn't change a thing!
I watch a lot of drumming videos from a bunch of RUclips teachers but I gotta say I really do appreciate and think it’s awesome you make these different types of videos also based on drums. Thanks 🙏🏼 On another note I’m not sure if you play edrums but it would be nice to hear what you think about those?

I had a friend named Adam who use to do Gigs with me in Germany. But he gave up playing 🎸gigs🎸, I wasn't the type to give up, but music didn't take us anywhere, but that doesn't mean everyone else can't live that dream💭, for me Drumming Drawing beating hard settings on games or keyboard & making music in FL Studio. Or music 2000 or which ever software U use doesn't mean it's the end for U🙅🏼♂️. We have to remember we're not living in the 70s 80s and 90s Unfortunately a lot of things have changed and we living in 2021 through 😷 Coca-Cola covid-19😷.
Hey, I've been playing drums for almost 11 years now and I feel like I'm not as good as I should be. What should I do, I mainly feel as If I'm not confident enough?
How’s it going? I have been playing for 27 years and I felt the same way for years. But what I found is that if you venture out and learn and play styles that you normally wouldn’t that it makes you re think things in a way that will make you naturally become a better drummer. And a shoot out to The Orlando Drummer and his practice loops they are amazing. So many different styles there’s endless possibilities for improvement. When it comes to confidence just remember that you not playing for anyone but for yourself. Hopes this helps and keep at it.
A drum instructor will definitely help you find and improve your weaknesses and help you build confidence. Especially if you're a very slow learner like myself. It took me years to understand that you have to find the feel when reading music that it's not just playing the notes. Why am I so dumb? How do I go through life with this brain? Anyway, Adam pointed this fact out in two seconds for free. If I had been smart enough to seek a drum teacher when I was younger I imagine I wouldn't have gone years without knowing this info.
Man your a god when it come to drums and teaching you instill confidence when you talk that's huge man .if I ever go to Orlando were do I look to find you. I live in the bay area. Hope you come this way .il have a cold beer waiting 🍻🍺🍻🍺
fantastic boy never seen something so good I admire your work your seriousness editions and lessons that you teach only the problem is that i am brazilian and not knowing everything that is speaking in english it would be nice to put subtitles in portuguese because the subtitle of youtube is not much good heheh
I am 44 and when i was young i have dreamed of becoming a drummer but I am the shy type and when i got a chance to try drums ( borrowed a set from our church music ministry), I kindof hesitated because it was too loud and neighbours would complain or watch and I don't like that being a beginner and the introvert type. So I just stuck myself into playing guitar which went well enough. And now that Ive learned about quiet options that i could use to learn it like e drums or the quiet heads and low volume cymbals, I am planning to give it another try. Never been too excited about it. It is going to be my Father's day gift to myself. What are your thoughts of where should i start? E drums? Or a low volume set up?
I started late 30’s too, it’s s great hobby... I would pick up a muck cheap 2nd hand E set and cut your teeth on it. If your still eager in a years time treat your self to a good set. I’ve just got round to converting an acoustic set to electronic which for me is the way to go long term. Check out Vdrums forum and look into 65 drums on RUclips for good advices.
I think I can claim the weirdest reason for playing drums: writing a book where the main character (a vampire, just so you get the picture) is a drummer. I managed to blag the first story (looking up drum terms on Google etc) but when I realised I was going to continue the story into a second book, I knew I had to understand the struggles. You know what happened: I got hooked. :-) Not bad at 66. Love those drums.
I’ve played drums off and on for over ten years. I rarely play anymore because I am uninspired. I’m restricted to a lower tier electronic kit that just feels stiff and lifeless. Even if I could get an acoustic kit, it’s out of reach price wise. Does anyone happen to have any tips on how to make my electronic kit feel better to play?
Today i was thinking about this question. Sometimes the passion is just not there and i wonder why even bother? I'm not that good and probably won't be able to make a career out of this like guys like you have. Thanks for helping me rethink my negativity.
The Drum Community is the Most Un-Toxic one! Even if you‘re playing Rock Beat for 2 Hours Straight they mention your good Timing or the simplistic, love em! But NEVER mention Jay and Joey
My main reason was that the theory is much easier than other instruments. No harmony, melody, chords, scales... You just have to learn rhythm. It's the best way to sneak into bands without having to know much theory 😅
#1 Reason to become a drummer - is so that your husband will take your pitiable turned over refuse receptacle, (bass) an upside down empty popcorn bucket (my snare) and Pringle can right side up that I configured a very small gong I've had for years into its opening for my hi hat. I strapped my recorder I've had since the 3rd grade (im in my 40s now so it's pretty special) to my right ankle and made the "kick" part of my bass or kick drum and I just happened to have drumstick sized pencils if you can believe it. Never used but they've been moving from one house to another for a good 20 years. And there it was. All I needed to at least make a beginning. I couldn't believe I could do anything with it. And the Pringles can seemed to have some racial issues with the popcorn bucket that not even duct tape really mediated that well. But when I showed him what I could do, he went online and found me a starter kit for like $200 or $250 and I got hi, mid and floor toms, hi hat, and cymbal or ride. I think its more supposed to be a crash than a ride but its too cheap to tell the difference but its a start and a full kit. He had to get me a real ride though and is like "Go-Mode" finding a whole cymbal package upgrade. But drumming to start doesn't HAVE to cost anything if you wanna see if you have any chops. Some household items will do. And then buy used and student models of the instruments you want to try because they are far too expensive to be wasting thousands on sitting there looking nice and never played. But I'm a newbie. I wonder if there is anywhere I can find out how to work up my skills. In every instrument you learn properly, you learn how to read music for that instrument and with it, you're shown a c note. And you learn a really dumb "song" on it in order to get the feel of the note with your fingers in the right place. Then you get the next one (I'm reviewing in my head my recorder book from 3rd grade) but now you play a 2 note "song" and you are given exercises to work your hands properly back and forth. You get your 3rd note and finally you can play Merrily We Roll Along (a capped version of Mary Had A Little Lamb, as you don't know D yet or whatever. I realize now it wasn't C I learned first, it couldn't have been because of how you hold a recorder. But I can talk for hours like this so I need to stop and get to the point as I think I have made mine about building on skills. Is there some type of similar comparison for drumming? I havent mentioned yet I am fully disabled from many injuries. From boot camp broken bones to now osteopenia or porosity probably by now. I have protruding disks and recently a spinal compression fractures so its so important I do this starting out right. I have such bad habits from self-taught piano that when I got to college and could take a course in it, I couldn't learn the fingerings. Because your fingers are numbered and real pianists know which finger goes where and how. And I had "cheater" ways of playing chords because I figured out an inverted chord sounds the same as a straight chord but thats also because I never learned prior to read bass clef and had to teach myself chords to accompany myself on a melody. Which all of it is a fine given my disabilities. I don't have to worry except sitting too long. But I have all kinds of arm, wrist, and finger issues. And I just know my left hand is retarded. I've never been able to play guitar because even though I could grip the neck to hold it, applying the pressure to the frets brings me a certain small little hell. I can feel it now actually since I've been holding the phone too long writing. And I only recently learned that it is in the wrist and hands you work your sticks. Far better for me than just my arms, in spire of what the above sounds like. I cant tell you the burning pain that starts in my rotator cuff and fires down my arm. But believe it or not I CAN still do this. I know I can. But I have to learn properly because this is a very physical instrument and im supposed to beat on it not the other way around. I would sign up for a proper program like that. Learning how to properly configure the kit to your body to start all the way to complete rhythmic compositions. With fills and variances you would play along to a popular track minus the drums, replaced with a click option. I love how Drumeo offers in the practice section options for how you hear the track. But it should work up to speed. Not teach me at 60 bpm and only give me a track at 120 bpm or whatever it would be. It should be adjustable at like 10 beat increments. And I find the fill practice track for fills to be a waste. It is the exact same thing as without the fills so why have 2 separate practices to go through. Because the lessons are on top and you have chickadee links below which is awesome but I havent seen how to go from point a to point b in there which kind of stinks. And it is great for anyone who doesn't have special needs because you are learning so much at once that can be readily applied. But it just feels so random. There's no sense of building I feel so far. Though I will say they did do a lesson on setting the kit. I just need more. I have the Stick book coming. I heard about this book that is like the drummers Bible I guess. But still, nothing helps so much as a person to copy. I can look at the pages all I want but until I see what it looks like I might have issues making it sound right where as replicating another's movements is far easier. Any advice for me? And don't tell me go play the harp or something else. I have a small one I am also learning to play. I have a keyboard I can play okay and my trusty, dusty recorder from 3rd grade which I also manage. But this is on a whole other level and I need help. Some guidance to keep me able to play. Because hopping across RUclips to look up videos I don't know I'll find to try and learn the things I need is frustrating. Whatever guidance you can give would be appreciated. Thank you.
I sold my kit not because I didn't love it but because my neighbours didn't love it... I choose to stop the neigbours arguing with my family over me... The hardest choice require the strongest will😞
Just a quick psa, the whole right brain/ left brain idea is a myth. While it is obviously true that some people are more analytical and others more creative, that does not correlate to one side of the brain or the other.

Great video Adam :)
Drumming isn't hard think like a Shinobi Shin Garuda & U will succeed🇩🇪peace from 🇩🇪✌🏼.
Yeah I like it
EPIC!
This video didn't put me forward as a drummer, yet it did. ^^'

How do u braid your hair like that not to be mean but I really like it

man i've been playing for 7 years now and theres these kids that pop up on the internet that are like
10 years ahead of me in skill
Amer snaps I’ve been playing 18 years, so that would make sense. Lol
Amazing video
For me it was because it was the only instrument I could sit at and at least play something right then and there.
Your drums sound DOOOOOOOOOPPEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!
cool
When he said 🍕 pizza. I was thinking about Domino's.
The Drum Community is the Most Un-Toxic one! Even if you‘re playing Rock Beat for 2 Hours Straight they mention your good Timing or the simplistic, love em!
But NEVER mention Jay and Joey
That's why I play electric for now. Don't want those cops showing up....again.

Thank you.
Hahaha. The last reason is very true.
I bet im gonna get a heart

I have ADHD. If you can't stay still as it is, then drums are great.
Why are there dislikes on this vid, that’s crazy?
I sold my kit not because I didn't love it but because my neighbours didn't love it... I choose to stop the neigbours arguing with my family over me...
The hardest choice require the strongest will😞
Hey Adam, do you want to be my drum friend?
Waooo
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Your cymbals inclination gives me anxiety 😂
Just a quick psa, the whole right brain/ left brain idea is a myth. While it is obviously true that some people are more analytical and others more creative, that does not correlate to one side of the brain or the other.
#drumfriends lol!
I hate to say it but....
First
I’m proud of you. 🙏🏼
@@richwinestudios thanks🤣
Haha nice one the cops will show up
Too much talking show something
