- Mayor Eric Adams is taking heat over his new shelter for migrants on Randall's Island. His critics are the men who live in a homeless shelter just yards away. CBS2 political reporter Marcia Kramer has what some are calling a tale of two shelters.
Adams is wrong on this when he says that the treatment of foreigners shouldn't be compared to that of citizens. Who in the hell is he working for?
The migrants will all have jobs in 4 days. They will do the jobs that the homeless will not do. The homeless may never work or find a place to live.
Not for the average voter that's for sure. Power-elite seeking to virtue signal. While the real underlying motive is bringing in more low-cost workers for various industries to keep wages depressed. The economy relies on exploitation. Not just of new immigrants, but also residents already here who pay taxes.

Meanwhile, the shelter has actual mattresses and semi-private rooms. The only debate here is that the migrant "rec room" is better. Their "rec room" consists of 4 TVs and one XBox. You're upset because one group has one XBox to share between 1,000 people while the other group has their own BED and their own BEDROOM.
Simple, if State American tax dollars are paying for the shelters, the dollars should go to NY State American citizens. Non-American citizen shelters should be funded by local charities and other organizations. What are we saying to the world, that we don't care for our own? I wonder if I rolled into a South American country and expected, food, housing and a job. They would look at me like I grew two heads. I also think any monetary aid going to other countries would be better served taking care of non-citizens in the US.

I read an article some illegals from Venezuela are complaining they left the comfy shelters in NY when they were offered a job in FL for $15 an hour plus meal allotment plus free hotel room but we're fired and put on the street for drinking and fighting. You can't record in shelters if they suspect you are filming the staff who often do ify things or the conditions you will get permanently banned from that group of shelters. Also if your homeless you are in a database which is accessed by all shelters and the other shelters will see a note and probably deny you access also. Most people just keep quite and deal with the insanity and poor treatment. On top of this if you complain to other people that are housed they will often just act like your over exaggerating and call you lazy and an in grateful leech even though some of the conditions actually prevent you from getting out of homelessness and often exasperates the problem or at least keeps you stuck

People complaining about migrants being moved around from shelter to shelter. First of all, how was they living before they came here? Second of all, people at Bellevue be moved around all the time. So what make them any special than the New York City citizen homeless? These people have some nerve with all the crime and stuff taking place in this city. They should be grateful the New York City mayor is doing what he can. We have a lot going on in this city and for one of these people not even supposed to be here. I want the homeless people that was born and raised in city to start getting together and going down and protest.
This is how the shelters work. The more you keep clients in the Shelter the state and city will continue to fund that shelter. Cityforhpes is a joke you can only use it in NYC via HRA once you get a job you are off of Cityforhpes while you are on probation with your job. Before the pandemic the voucher were $1200. Which in NYC you can't get a studio apartment let alone a one bedroom apartment. The housing specialist in the shelter are a joke you have to be on them for them to find you a room that's right rooms no studio or one bedroom. Section 8 via homeless are closed since 2007. The longer you are in the shelters case managers supervisor and staff gets paid. The grants are very small what the state gives to the Shelters. I use to work in the shelters I know what I'm talking about. They will give you a one way bus ticket out of NYC if you got families in other states. This is DHS for you.

While I agree with most folks here that there shouldn’t be disparity in treatment, I think they are doing this because the migrant center is a 4 day stay versus the “indefinite” stay at the shelter. So, they’re trying to discourage homeless from wanting to stay permanently, since that also does not solve the homeless crisis.
The migrants are getting better wow! TVs , games, nice soft couches, sofas , cooked South American specialty diet, they must have a chef., and not mentioned but new clothing and shoes. Warm blankets, phones ,video games table games , well this mayor and the administration is really taking great care of the migrants.
And Xboxes, and a great selection of beverages and food that they eat from their own country. Almost like a paid vacation. NYC what a crap hole.

I’ve been on a waiting list for 2.5 years I don’t blame them. Worked my whole life and paid taxes and now I need a smidge of help. My great grandfather came over from Sicily never saw his parents again at the age of 16. If we were sitting pretty with no money or societal problems that’s one thing. We have Americans rotting in the streets some offered their lives for our safety. I have been considering remigrating back to Italy. Y’all can enjoy your corporation

Those men live in what looks like a jail. At least have a room with phones so they can look for work, a permanent place, their doctors, or their pharmacy. Now the Xbox well IDK about that, but at least cards and some board games. I can only imagine what their sleeping quarters and bathrooms look like. So sad the way homeless Americans is treated in this country. They show you the mental people or addicts but that is not the entire homeless population. There are working people that can’t afford rent and they have families to support. They aren’t looking for handouts but are asking for help with the housing crisis and inflation. This is sickening to see. Send all those people back to wherever they came from and I’m so serious because this has gotten way out of hand.

We need a US Dept of Homeless Policy and Action. We need a Homeless Bill of Rights. And, we need to get the homeless off the sidewalks, and give some respect to the business owners with sidewalk access. We need more public toilets and showers. No one thinks showers at a beach odd. Well people get dirty everywhere. It’s a public health issue in a time of pandemic. And we need mental health support for the homeless. No one should have to spend more than 3 nights in a shelter. It is a chilling experience. You will see insanely crazy people, and many normal people.

Because of cultural necessities these grown men never learned any job keeping skills or a higher education. Only drugs, basketball, pimpin and begging. Its black cultures fault for not instilling real life scenarios for self improvement. Example ,painting, wall plastering, plumbing, barbering,accounting, sanitation, home improvement etc.
A lot of those men have felons, and can’t get a job.
