Our rabbit was sick and needed our help to clean. We took your suggestions and bathed his bumbum. He love it and was very calm. Thanks for making and posting this video.
I gave my rabbit a bum bath, he panicked a little at first but then he calmed down he actually enjoyed it and he was licking my hand because of the reflex from grooming him.
Had a paralyzed rabbit who was bladder incontinent, and i had to express him several times a day. It took a while to get the hang of it, and it became normal for me to give him butt baths. He would chill in my arms while i ran his tail under the sink faucet and i'd be done in just a few minutes, but later on when i got more pro at emptying his bladder, the baths happened less and less. Tip: although you shouldnt bathe a normal, healthy bunny, if you must, be sure to get the right kind of soap. There's a reason rabbits are used for testing of human products, because they're so terribly sensitive to chemicals. A lot of soaps in pet stores are too strong for them, but /usually/ a soap intended for younger kittens is safe. Never, never use flea soap or flea dips on them, unless instructed by your vet... I learned that one the hard way. :( Also: rabbits have 2 types of poop. Most people only ever see the hard round pellets, and that's because they eat the other poop (which is softer and comes in clumps) as it comes out. They do this because their digestive systems dont fully process the food the first time it goes through, so it goes back in. If a rabbit were deprived of the softer poop, they may become malnourished and probably get sick.
You are a wonderful care taker of Gods sweet creatures! Not many folks would bother w/a bun or any animal that is needy like yours is.. what they do not see is the love we get in return and the many joyful and precious moments!! Sometimes i smile all day because of mt bunnies!!! TY for sharing your story! You are a treasure and i wish more people were like you.
Awe, thank you! :) I'm glad there's others who feel the same as i do, i often feel as though people dont bother to read some of my posts. That bun was my baby for 4 years, he passed this last december. I miss him all the time, but i'm happy have given him the best life i possibly could. :)
Thank you so much for this comment, it really helped me like A LOT. My littlest rabbit just became paralysed today, and he's absolutely filthy, so this comment just helped a lot, and we can easily tell you're a great rabbit owner, and you actually know how to handle them
My rabbit was so dirty it wouldn't clean its self. i got my bunny from a really bad home. they where covered in dirt and their own wast all over their body. they where so dirty that they wouldn't evan clean them selves, as soon as i got them i gave them a bath and they wouldn't stop cleaning them selves for the next day. the previous owner kept them in a hutch so small they couldn't evan turn around, they didn't have any hay, pellets or water (all they had where veggies) and their nails where EXTREMELY LONG, when i cut them i had to cut about a centre meter off and even then they where still pretty long because i didn't want to hurt them. one is a girl and one is a boy, they ant vaccinated or spayed, i hope the girl isn't already pregnant as they are 6 months old. the girl keeps sneezing and i don't know what to do about it. Its a shame they where treated so badly as they are real sweeties pies.
I've had a similar situation with a bunny I rescued :( I was told she was 6 weeks old but when I took her home I quickly realised she was much younger - maybe 4-5weeks and very tiny. She needed her mumma and the woman I got her from was feeding all the rabbits only bird seed (BIRDSEED!!!). Their cages were filthy, their eyes crusty and weeping and their butts full of poop. Luckily I had some KMR powdered milk to feed my little girl but after a nice bath, nail clip and a full belly of milk she began exploring and eating pellets and hay so she survived. I also took her to the vet to get some medicine for her eye infection and reported the "breeder" I got her from to the local animal protection agency. One year later she is now healthy and happy with a new litter of her own :) Love her to bits and will take extra good care of her babies and have already found homes for them that they will go to when they are fully weaned and independent.
Jess D I have the same story because I also rescued my bunny from a horrible farm and she was terrified and dirty and they wouldn't give her a bath or nothing so I got her and I slept over my friend and went to Walmart to buy her toys and the waterbottle
Thank you for posting this! I’ve had such a hard time cleaning my Flemmy because she either can’t reach or, as I am convinced, she would rather nap than groom.
My rabbit is such a cuddly, affectionate rabbit. He acts like a dog-cat hybrid. He LOVES baths, and if he hears the faucet on in the bathroom he will run and scratch on the door, and if you put him on the counter top he will jump in and out of the sink. He is a french-holland mix, and during season change he sheds a lot, so we use the bath as a chance to get the excess hair out without spreading it around the house and in the air
my rabbit is the same way she freaks out and steals my baths all the time especially if there is bubbles so i use baths and a fluffing with the hair drier as a reward
Alisa Tibbetts my rabbit is female, age five and has almost exactly the same behavior as does yours! She will literally sit in bed with me and we will nap together. So sweet.
thank you so much for this. my bunny came home after stasis and has a poopy bum. your calm and reassuring video made this doable for me. he also has fatty foot so he isn’t balancing well. i gave hikbb by one this evening and i think he’s grateful.
in the summer i tend to give them a nice bath because my bunnies are outdoor-bunnies. they have plenty of water, food and shade so they won't overheat, but sometimes i make a bath inside their cages so they can cool down a little bit ^^ they are walking on grass as well if i do that so i think they are just enjoying life at the countryside :)
Instead of baths (since I don't feel like bathing bunnies is a good thing, and my bun will fight back) I use a soft paper towel and soak it in warm water, until its super soft. Then I use it to lightly dampen the poopy-butt area, and after soaking it for 2-3 minutes, I can rub the poop, urine, and dirt off. Hope that helps!
Excellent video. Couple of comments: Take great care to control the rear legs and kicking. Rabbits have powerful rear legs and can seriously injure their backs without proper restraint. If "poopy butt" persists or is associated with an ill rabbit, consult your veterinarian so that the underlying cause may be identified and treated.
My old bunny jumps alone into my low placed bathtub with little warm water. He always does what his best buddy, 10y old cat does. The cat is overweight Turkish rase, so he loves water to clean his "back"(he always wait for me in the morning to wash him after pee or poo - and this was his idea! :D I fixed a bit my bathroom for my two friends, in the bathtub I keep two big gummy bathmats to avoid sliding paws:)

thank you thank you thank you for this video, I don't know what happened but my rabbit had poop built up and i was panicking and the smell was so bad and i thought i could gently pull it off but it wasnt possible it was all soft and i googled if necessary how can i give my rabbit a bath and i found this and yall are angels, shes cleaning off what I couldnt get now and im def keeping a really good eye on her now.
The Girl With The Platypus Hat also usually this only happens to bunnies who live in small cages and aren't litter trained... I don't know about your set-up but if you haven't already, litter train her, make sure she has plenty of room in her pen or wherever she lives so she only goes to the litterbox when she needs to, and clean the litterbox every day. There are even some litterboxes you can get that have a mesh above the pan so the rabbit never sits in its droppings.
My Rabbit used to love having baths, he would just sit and soak without a care in the world, and then he loved sitting around while i blow dried him dry :) just lapped it all up...
My bunny has very yellow feet, what is a good way to clean them other than a bath? she is terrified of water and will not cooperate with even the littlest amount of water, but if I hold her she is fine. I saw online hydrogen peroxide is good for spot cleaning, any thoughts?
I have 2 dwarf bunnies. Benito & Antonio, Benito is mine & FYI Bad Bunny's real name fits him so well. Antonio (Bad Bunny's middle name and & my boys) is soooo sweet but he loves food.
She's also scratch people whenever they carry her and randomly bite my stuff when she's hungry the rabbit you guys are showing is so tamed how do they do that 😱😭
+Rabigail Sta. Maria The issue can be that since it's from a Farm. It could be a Wild Rabbit. Which are different than other bunnies and in some cases (most), they aren't as legal. Has this bunny been doing fine recently?
If there’s a rabbit that has had something get on their back ( this is a bunny that is always around my house not mine) maybe oil from under a car or something else not really sure. Can I clean her it off with something for her? If so what should I use? I feed her and she lets me pet her.
My bunny has a stained fur butt and I was worried so I held her upper body and had her bum in the water whilst wiping the dirty fur off. It helped with the smell but it didn't get rid if it but it was helpful for my bunny so she could pull the dirty fur off herself :)
my rabbit is kinda wild and every time i put her in an inch of water she will LITERALLY flip out and then i get scratches all over my arms!!! how do you tame a almost wild rabbit?
Umm, IDK if I’d use my fingernails to remove the poop 💩 that can cause pink eye 👁 if not washed properly. Maybe using a silicone hand comb to remove the dangle berries!😅🐰
I have a bunny of my own and mostly gets dirty near where he poops and pees so would this same thing work? (Please comment,I’m new to the whole bunny thing)
I always need to wash my rabbits back passage (bum) I have a Netherland dwarf rabbit and I do use safe baby shampoos like Johnsons baby shampoo and it worked well 👍👍
I recently got 2 baby bunnies and I had no clue how to care for them and I got them at a flea market so it wasnt planned to have them and I did my research like 2 days after I got them and I didnt know they needed a litterbox so they are sitting in thier own poop and pee so I am gonna attempt to clean thier cage put in thier litter box and get the pee off of them

And now I'm reaserching more to se if I can get the smell out Maibe I'll just leave it at that and se if the smell goes away I feel this is really a unique experience and idk how to proceed
What can you do if you have a rabbit that won't even let you pick it up?? I have wore thick, rubber gloves to prevent deep scratches. Nothing works! The rabbit refuses to be picked up.
There is some debate going on about a video showing rabbit owners laying their hare on their back to give them a full on bath (filling a cup with water while the faucet is running water on the hare's tummy). Many rabbit owners are claiming that this is detrimental to the hare because hares and rabbits should not be on their backs for numerous reasons. Is this an incorrect way of bathing or even placing a rabbit?
Definitely If you put a rabbit on its back it goes into shock IT IS NOT SLEEPING OR ENJOYINH THE BATH ITS PLAYING DEAD And its obviously wrong to put a faucet on full strength and RUN IT OVER THE BUNNIES BELLY
Guys I have a couple with me. They are outdoor bunnies of 12 weeks. But their feet are very dirty like the body is in white colour but their hands n feet are light green/ brown.. seems dirty. Can I bathe them fully once for their hygiene. Because now they are my pets. They have a home. Kindly suggest how shall I clean them fully..any soap or shampoo? Any vaccination that is required....I am new to take care of them ...kindly give other tips also. Most importantly the bathing & vaccination part. Else they eat good and are super naughty 😉. They jump too much. I love them ❤. Guys please help me!
My rabbit's feet are all stained by pee.... I think it's because of when he goes in his litter box his feet get all dirty.... he wouldn't let me pick him up to wash them :/ is there any way I can clean his feet? To get the stains off?

What can you do if you have a rabbit that won't even let you pick it up?? I have wore thick, rubber gloves to prevent deep scratches. Nothing works! The rabbit refuses to be picked up.
Thanks for this interesting info. Helps a lot though
i new to this.. and my bunny already have poop on his side.. so.. should i do this bathe process plus on his side too?? would that be okay??
There is some debate going on about a video showing rabbit owners laying their hare on their back to give them a full on bath (filling a cup with water while the faucet is running water on the hare's tummy). Many rabbit owners are claiming that this is detrimental to the hare because hares and rabbits should not be on their backs for numerous reasons. Is this an incorrect way of bathing or even placing a rabbit?
Definitely
If you put a rabbit on its back it goes into shock
IT IS NOT SLEEPING OR ENJOYINH THE BATH ITS PLAYING DEAD
And its obviously wrong to put a faucet on full strength and RUN IT OVER THE BUNNIES BELLY
What's your stance on dust baths? I know that they're effective but are they okay for the rabbit?
No, no dust bathes for rabbits. Ever.
Dust baths are for chinchillas not rabbits!
My sister bathed her rabbit but I don't think she did it properly so the bunny caught namonia over night and he died his name was trigger🐇
AlphaFemale guess you could say the bath.. TRIGGERED him ;)
+Melissa Nicole lol
Melissa Nicole lmfao that's the best comment I've ever seen
She drowned the rabbit, hope she feels guilty.
Mythical-wolf I think that was from its pee (there pee has ammonia in it)
