How to Install G'MIC Plugin for GIMP for Mac

- Mac has been making tons of security updates to its operating systems recently, making it hard for open source programs like GIMP and G'MIC to keep up with development for these systems. As a result, it's hard to get your hands on certain Mac-friendly plug-ins for GIMP, or even for an up-to-date version of GIMP for Mac. In this tutorial, I show you how to download and install a version of GIMP that includes G'MIC for Mac (and that works!) while also explaining GIMP's Mac problems.

Update: the GIMP team released GIMP 2.10.24 for MAC the day before this video was released. I referenced GIMP 2.10.22 as being the latest version of GIMP for MAC at the time of the video, which was true when I recorded it but not true the actual day of release.
The steps were a little different for me but it ended up working! Thanks alot dude, I'm subscribe right now!

when I'm changing canvas size in GIMP should I : change canvas size first and then edit or edit and change canvas size last? I've been editing first, changing canvas size second to last to have a border, then sharpening lastly. When I post to Instagram, my sharpening looks significantly blurred. I don't notice this on images in which I don't change canvas size. I know Instagram generally downgrades images regardless but I notice it more with images I've changed the canvas size. How can I avoid this blurring? Is it something to do with my order of editing steps? Thanks so much

It would be great if you could update this video as Mac has updated several times since this vid's release. I followed this tutorial (just in case it would still work) but it doesn't. McGimp/Gimpo crashes every time McGimp is attempting to open.

I followed your instructions but gmic is still not accessible. Its greyed out. Should I have done something with xquartz. Ive since checked your website and followed the instructions. It shows to open the osx file. Mine isnt marked osx and it contents are only showing a read me file and the _qt file. Ive tried copying them to the plugin folder and restarting the mcgimp app but its still greyed out
I'm on Mac Sonoma 14.0 and this now doesn't seem to work. When I try to open McGimp-2.10.22 it crashes, "GIMP crashed with a fatal error: Abort trap: 6". Any suggestions?
