  • In 1973, the BBC broadcast the Doctor Who serial, The Green Death. These clips are from the first episode. They sound as relevant today as back then - 51 years ago!
If only the world paid attention to the environmental message back then, we might not be in such a bad place now!

12 years before the discovery of the ozone hole! Same story as today though, renewables make logical sense but there's less monetary interest in it. Maybe if we were surrounded by huge maggots we might take notice a bit more.

So when people say "Doctor Who is so woke now!", you point them to this classic gem, one of the best of the Jon Pertwee run. It was preachy as hell, in your face about it's environmental message, but did we call the show "woke"? No, we sided with the message.

The problem is the ecosystem of greed. It took a long time to build the manipulative mindset that permeates our energy sector. It'll take a lot of work to convince people that because a windmill broke or there was a cloudy day at the solar plant, that your gasoline should increase in price by a dollar a gallon. Or that your energy bill should jump because people at the wind farm are fighting.
