Correction- They did not steal millions from Activation. Their contract with Activision was met, they allocated the 8 extra hours for the midnight releases. The hours cut after the midnight release did not impact the midnight release, Activision benefited, GameStop benefited- obligations met on both ends. GameStop stole millions from their employees who had been promised the extra hours and even worse, the reduction of 8 hours to a schedule that's already cut to the bone means whoever is stuck working is doing the job of 2 associates while earning nothing extra for the added stress. This would have been planned from the start. You don't tell your staff about the reallocation of 8 hours because it would incite rebellion. Instead you tell them they are getting 8 hours for the midnight release and afterwards drop the other shoe that those hours still had to come out of the normal hours budget. Activision is just as evil as GameStop, they would not object to this at all because they are benefiting from the abuse. Doing this ensures you have an energetic and excited staff for the midnight release and because midnight releases are so taxing they won't have the energy to fight the hours cuts afterwards. From a financial standpoint it's not worth suing over a one time $250 payout because it would cost far more in time and effort than it's worth so I suspect that was also an intentional bait-and-switch where they acted in bad faith because of the low probability of retaliatory lawsuit and the fact they could fire anyone who complained on social media to bring the situation to light as easily as they fired Cody for doing his job as dictated to him by his supervisor.

That's the saddest story but with the happiest ending you've told so far. You're the man cody. After coming to the realization, that one of my favorite childhood and young adulthood hangouts that had its atmosphere created, built, and maintained by the EMPLOYEES who were amongst the coolest people around, Gamestop just needs to die at this point. With the mistreatment of people like you, all former and current employees who made my day and early life a little more enjoyable and memorable, gamestop deserves what's coming to them. We are not robots, we are not worthless, and we are not stupid. I remember a time when gaming would bring people together, in person,and it wasn't all about the money. Because the times and memories were so enjoyable, the game industry practically paid for itself with a loyal and devoted base. The couch co-op days were the best. There are some good online games, but there was just something about having all of your close friends come over and you all smash snacks, sodas, and candy, and nerd out that made it that much better.

I feel so bad about how gamestop has gone. when I was like 13-14 years old I had a really shitty home life and hanging out at the local gamestop playing on the demo systems was like one of my only escapes from my really abusive home life. it's so sad to see how this has turned out.
Yup. How else would a "miscalculation" on their end be so incredibly wrong so they would refuse people who busted their butts their rightly earned money? And if it were THAT huge of a miscalculation, the someone who did the miscalculation perhaps should be fired and then the company would still pay out the rewards. The company would then in turn be able to sue the micalculator person for the extra costs.

I decided to do this because of my toxic work environment and I came to find out that the company that files these reports isn’t even directly connected to Gamestop anymore. Don’t know why, but it’s sad to know that you can’t report things that are happening in the work place and have the supposedly working HR Line when it doesn’t even work. I mean they filed the report but it’s not guaranteed to go through.
We had a tradition in my store. The night you quit, you have to throw your name tag across the sales floor and leave it for the day shift to find. Parting speech is optional. My speech was "For too long have these keys put holes in my pocket and this lanyard choked the very life from me" . You then proceed to throw the name tag and walk out the door.....never to return.
I got that sick sinking feeling when you talked about her getting the food ahead of time and being reimbursed for it afterward. I knew what was coming. I was like "Oh no..." Reminds me of how politicians take lobbyist funds for casinos, sell the casino as a revenue generator for schools & highways & then cut existing funds to those items so instead of surplus they are pretty much where they started and take those cut funds to feed whatever special interest that is the flavor of the moment. I worked there for a year and only got one bonus. The target goal was usually upwards of 250 candy bars, and I made sure every single candy bar in my store was sold, so that's a lot of money. But they refused to give me my $50 because they needed it more I guess.

I worked at Dominos pizza in my early 20's. They did a promotion where each employee was supposed to get a $20 Best Buy gift card. We never got them. A few months later the managers wife came by the store and got into a fight with him and told everyone how he stole all the gift cards and had a sound system and remote starter installed in his truck with the cards. Not the same thing but this video reminded me of it.
It's quite hard to win a lawsuit against a large corporation (at the time). But let's be honest, they went through some loopholes to figure out the "miscalculation issue". Why hold the contest in the first place?

Reminds me of the Frys Food and Drugs bad faith quarterly bonuses. If you hit the parameters, you will get that dollar per hour worked, but then they slash the hours you get for upcoming weeks and then up the parameters higher for next time. Only bare bone departments got any benefit to them and the bigger teams like cashiers and courtesy clerks got hit hard.

The retail company I work for just sent out a memo to management last week stating that Store Managers were no longer allowed to do a $100 pay out that went toward food and beverages on major holidays and sales events, but they did, however, suggest that employees do a more traditional potluck, where 100% of the cost comes directly out of team associate's pockets. The good news for this company is that they sell a variety of snack foods and drinks, so the company will directly benefit from these corporate-recommended potlucks.
I can sooooooo relate because I use to work for gamestop YEARS ago and I have seen alot of things go down back then. I know someone that they fired and he was with the company 10+ years for no reason at all.

I accepted a manager job three weeks ago and I regret it. I have worked as a seller at GameStop for 2 years. I have also won two contests I have not gotten paid for, and my team and I won a luxury dinner at a restaurant of choice worth 200$ That was in October. Still every time someone mentions it to our area manager we get stonewalled lol
I always hated them forcing employees to focus so much on pre-orders and subscriptions. You can not force people into buying something they weren't going to buy to begin with not to mention the location I worked at they had no signs on the street showing Gamestop was in the plaza and we had a little dinky sign over the store saying Gamestop and if you worked the opening to 3pm shift you were lucky to get 10 people to come through and they were usually older people just shopping for their kids/grand kids.
I like watching your videos because I can relate to a lot of your stories, mainly because I work retail. Luckily we at least make commission so it's not all bad :D

the more i hear on your channel the more i think about my job. it wasn't a gamestop and it wasn't even in the same category as gamestop but it's unbelievably similar. It makes me think there is a conference or at least some type of training being passed on to business owners and higher ups on how to execute this type of behavior. it's almost by the book what's going on.

It's quite hard to win a lawsuit against a large corporation (at the time). But let's be honest, they went through some loopholes to figure out the "miscalculation issue". Why hold the contest in the first place?

As I've said before a class action lawsuit against GameStop will be amazing especially after word gets out that they denied an employee a reward they earned fair and square.

Reminds me of the Frys Food and Drugs bad faith quarterly bonuses. If you hit the parameters, you will get that dollar per hour worked, but then they slash the hours you get for upcoming weeks and then up the parameters higher for next time. Only bare bone departments got any benefit to them and the bigger teams like cashiers and courtesy clerks got hit hard.

The retail company I work for just sent out a memo to management last week stating that Store Managers were no longer allowed to do a $100 pay out that went toward food and beverages on major holidays and sales events, but they did, however, suggest that employees do a more traditional potluck, where 100% of the cost comes directly out of team associate's pockets. The good news for this company is that they sell a variety of snack foods and drinks, so the company will directly benefit from these corporate-recommended potlucks.
Never stepping foot in a gamestop again. I wish I had just an inkling of how shady it was years ago.
I can sooooooo relate because I use to work for gamestop YEARS ago and I have seen alot of things go down back then. I know someone that they fired and he was with the company 10+ years for no reason at all.
My job made me really sad today and I really needed this to pick me up.

I accepted a manager job three weeks ago and I regret it. I have worked as a seller at GameStop for 2 years.
I have also won two contests I have not gotten paid for, and my team and I won a luxury dinner at a restaurant of choice worth 200$
That was in October. Still every time someone mentions it to our area manager we get stonewalled lol

I always hated them forcing employees to focus so much on pre-orders and subscriptions. You can not force people into buying something they weren't going to buy to begin with not to mention the location I worked at they had no signs on the street showing Gamestop was in the plaza and we had a little dinky sign over the store saying Gamestop and if you worked the opening to 3pm shift you were lucky to get 10 people to come through and they were usually older people just shopping for their kids/grand kids.
I like watching your videos because I can relate to a lot of your stories, mainly because I work retail. Luckily we at least make commission so it's not all bad :D

working in retail can suck.. the other day i made the company i work for about a thousand dollars in about an hour and the boss still was upset that i didnt sell any attachments with the items i sold ..i was like wtf i just made you guys a thousand dollars and your not even happy with that it truly is bonkers
I always knew gamestop's was shady but wen I found this guys channel my mind was blown.
the more i hear on your channel the more i think about my job. it wasn't a gamestop and it wasn't even in the same category as gamestop but it's unbelievably similar. It makes me think there is a conference or at least some type of training being passed on to business owners and higher ups on how to execute this type of behavior. it's almost by the book what's going on.
