  • It’s winter in the greenhouse and many of our Mexican Pinguicula are starting to go into their winter succulent mode. This is not a transitional dormancy and Damon will tell you more! www.californiacarnivores.com

    This is exactly the video I needed! This is my first winter with carnivorous plants and many of my pings are getting their smaller succulent leaves! I've already watched your previous video on wintering pings but it's nice to see examples in the pots again.
    P.S. I can't wait for the future Pingtopia Damon will create at your new greenhouse!

    Mine are 2 years & 1 week old. I purchased the kit you all introduced. I love them! But I think I may have confused them. I live in MI. My house has radiator heat. The pings are living in an e/se window with a grow light (appx 6-10 hrs per day), above the radiator. They are fat & lush right meow. I've found 2 pups & they all have flowers. In the summer, they only get a few hours of direct morning light, then grow light rest of the day. They went into succulent mode this summer. I had to remove a few leaves to let the pups break free, so I'm going to try to propagate those. If the plant thinks it's spring, they just might grow! I've got nothing to lose.

      They can be little tricksters too! We find they go winter succulent at random times or stay winter succulent for two years for no reason! I don’t think theyll mind if you’re different conditions!

      Keep it in a tray of water all year long in a bright East or west window. This time of year they make gemmae! Mine is nearly ready to harvest!

      @California_Carnivores  Год назад +1

      They can be a little tricky to hybridize and grow from seed, we’ll do a video about growing them from seed in spring!

    Hi Damon, great video as always. Question, I grow mine in my Ikea grow cabinet and it’s got constant 14 hour lights and constant day temp at 80 F and night time temp at 60 F. Can ping do ok without a dormancy?

    • @California_Carnivores
      @California_Carnivores  Год назад +2

      They can totally skip it, it’s not at all required, unlike the temperate plants.

  • @lilsangarden

    What water do you use to sprinkle them?

  • @dedraware8858

    I have my ping under a grow light. Should I move it away or from grow light or shorter hours during dormancy? Same question for other temperate plants.

    • @California_Carnivores
      @California_Carnivores  Год назад +1

      If your ping starts to change its leaf shape, just reduce watering and that should be sufficient to make it happy during winter succulency. Temperate plants are more complicated because dormancy is triggered by shorter photo periods and colder temps. You’ll want to have both.
