    Heartbreaking. Siskel was a brilliant critic and to look through the reviews is a joyful trip down yesteryear but also a sad one in the realization of mortality

  • @rightsaiddave
    @rightsaiddave 11 лет назад +263

    I have absolutely no idea why Larry King was such a prominent interviewer... These are all terrible questions. Roger Ebert went on the show to talk about Siskel's *legacy*, not why- what he- how he died. Or how he heard about the death, or what he was like before he died or any of the ridiculous things he asked.

    Back when Siskel was alive, it was "Siskel and Ebert", which to me meant "two LIONS arguing and agreing". Then it became "Ebert and Roeper", which meant to me "A LION and a mouse." Now it's "At the Movies". Which to me means "Two mice". I am 15, and even I miss Siskel. I mean, I've been watching their reviews on RUclips, and they are PHENOMENAL! R.I.P. Gene Siskel! You were one of the greatest critics who ever lived. Maybe the best! I HOPE AND PRAY TO GOD THAT I SEE YOU AND EBERT IN HEAVEN!

    This is how a mature person deals with the loss of a good friend. Notice he's not sobbing like an uncontrollable idiot or throwing out hateful messages to those who might have said something insincere or made a comment with which he may have disagreed... I can't help but admire the man for it.

    Anybody noticed how much stronger Ebert's Chicago accent is in interviews, compared to on At The Movies? Listen to the way he says "because" at 0.48.
    Did he tone it down on the show to make it more accessible, do you reckon?

    @JustinSuhr4 That's what I am trying to say , these movies are the greatest action movies ever made , took years of hard work and it shows , so why thumbs down ??? Think , how many people trusted Siskel's reviews and didn't go to watch these movies.

  • @JustinSuhr4
    @JustinSuhr4 13 лет назад +3

    @balwindergill1 well if you think about it, those movies were action flicks, I honestly love the movies as well but Siskel was more of a man that had passion for movies, he loved to see people work hard at these films and he wanted to see the movie show it.

    I truly wonder what ambition all of these trolls have in life. I mean, is it something to tell your grand kids when you're older? "Look how badly I trashed this guy! Wasn't your grandpa sumthin'?"
    Ebert's opinion on films is his and his alone. A little 'cru' every now and then to be sure, but perfectly written. Sure rips all of these RUclips comments a new asshole.
    So stop wasting our time. Do something productive in life. The pursuit of intelligence, for starters.

    That comment clearly demonstrates you have NEVER watched the show at all. And the point I am making is that they only did so on TV, not in real life. All right???

  • @WeaponXXIV

    @WinstonSmith6079 Well he also said that little kids are going to be bored by it...And judging by all the comments about the movie on that particular video (most saying something along the lines of "I grew up with this movie and loved it")...Roger was right and Gene was wrong. That's more what I meant by misguided. When Roger and Gene argued they were trying to prove that the other guy was wrong and that they missed the point, I think Gene missed the point about "Benji: The Hunted".

    DickLodge66, a good film critic has to not only say that they liked or disliked a movie, but also why in a way that everybody can understand. You have to really like movies, understand movies, and be a master of language to achieve that. Also they may have to be TV performers, which is an art in itself. Not everyone can act natural in front of a camera.
    Then there is accuracy. Siskel and Ebert were so dead on when they agreed, that two thumbs up meant you weren't going to waste your money.
