I hope you all enjoy the new inclusion of the quilting! As always, I'm working to refine my videos to be the best they can be. Do you want more quilting? Less quilting? Is the video too long? Are there parts you feel are missing? Leave me a comment below! :)
Your videos are never too long! I love them! This quilt is beautiful and I can't wait to try it out myself. I would love if you could do a video on your long arm showing how you load the quilt maybe, and then how you start the quilting process. And yes, keep including the quilting process when you can. You're such an inspiration. Thank you for putting up such great content.
I curse you!!! Just kidding LOL I now have the FQ bundle ordered with a purple wine for the background (its actually more fuschia with a glow of purple but it's named purple wine)... and your pattern is printed and awaiting the arrival of the fabric! Because I NEED another project!?!!!
I love your videos and I love to see both the longarm and domestic quilting. I do have a longarm, but we are not friends, LOL. Watching you is beginning to inspire me to reach out to "her" and see if we can develop a relationship. And oddly enough, I had JUST ordered a bunch of that plaid fabric the day before I saw your video!
I am continually impressed by you and your teaching. You are so genuine on the videos, like someone I'd want to ask over for tea/coffee and your instruction is clear and really to the point. Add that all to the generosity of you giving away free patterns...well... you are awesome!
I love the inclusion of quilting on the videos. I am a beginner and haven't done a full quilt yet and am better if I can follow directions. I don't have the experience to decide how to quilt a top. I would stick to stitch in the ditch quilting if you didn't include this. This is the best video I have seen for a full quilt. The best thing about your videos is that you include options for people. The example of long arm and domestic includes everyone. With your encouraging videos, I think I am closer to conquering a quilt although I will probably start with a pot holder.
Gorgeous! Orange is a great choice as a background. Frank Sinatra said "orange is the happiest color," and I agree! One of my faves! Thanks for another great tutorial! 🧡
I use mine a lot--not just when quilting! I thought they were kind of silly when I first started quilting and then I tried them! I'm a total believer now!
Thank you for the "quarter inch explanation" when putting diamonds together, I kept wondering why you couldn't just piece them together matching edges, never thought of them mathematically, very helpful. I love the colors you chose, beautiful pattern!
I'm so glad I could help! I know most blocks are 45 degree angles, so its easy to get everything together and have it all match up :). Other angles can really throw a wrench into things!
Great use of plaid or striped fabric. The explanation of the piecing angles was excellent and easy to understand either your visuals. Also how to adjust the seam allowance to half inch or trim option. Fabric looks fantastic for this quilt. That orange background is wonderful and out of my comfort zone too.
Thank you so much, Megan for this wonderful video! I love that you stepped out of your comfort zone for the background fabric. ( I'm trying to get my courage up to do the same.) Your piecing tips for this type of pattern are priceless! Your quilting tips are stellar as well! Thank you for the pattern and all of your help to complete this fun quilt! You are giving me the courage and inspiration to actually give it a try even though I am afraid of diamond patterns. I enjoy all of your quilting videos and hope that you keep them coming! *Love from WV*
Thank you so much!!! I'm so glad I went with the orange on this one as well! It was certainly new and I was afraid it would overwhelm the plaid fabrics but I really love it now that its all together :)
Thanks! I love a plaid as well but I've had a few failures with them in the past. I made exactly one block of the free wheeling single girl pattern with plaids 😬 It was pretty quickly abandoned!!
Thank you so much for the why about how to work with the diamonds. I had thought about doing one and had trouble with the matching so it’s in time out. I may try again.
Very nice and lively! Great pattern to use for guys and kittle boys--and it's always a bit more difficult for me to find that perfect "guy quilt pattern"!!! Thanks for sharing!
Yes!! Thank you! I have a little boy who loves quilts, so I'm always on the lookout for "boy" quilt ideas. Its easy to default to just solids for him but that gets a little boring after a while!
Oh my goodness Megan, I have been wanting to make diamonds! What a perfect way to give them a try. Your quilt looks amazing 🥰 Love the colors and patterns of the fabric. I love saturated colors, my personal favorite 💗 (I do find that fabric a little tricky to work with, yikes.. at least the last time I used it anyway). Thank you for sharing your knowledge, it’s so appreciated 🥰 Have a good two weeks. God Bless, Chris-Raleigh NC
Thank you! I'm really coming around to all these super saturated colors! I so often paired them with white but I'm so glad I've been stepping out to make these outrageously colorful quilts :)
Thank you for the video! I love the bright, uplifting feel of your channel. It is very inspiring. I appreciated the way you explained matching seams (initial block piecing as well as putting the blocks all together) and the pros and cons to altering the seam allowances so center seams match. I enjoyed seeing the quilting on both machines. My one recommendation would be that sometimes it is hard to see the stitching on the video until the final showing - maybe a contrasting thread color could be used? But regardless I look forward to all your updates! They are so fun and informative. Thanks :)
Thanks for the feedback! I'm always trying to improve. I'm working on a better camera angle for the quilting on the domestic machine which will hopefully help a lot! I also have a new light downstairs by my longarm that will hopefully show things a little better as well. I appreciate the kind words :) bright and uplifting are definitely the feeling I'd love to convey.
Wait!! You added your binding WHILE IT WAS STILL ON THE FRAME?!?!!! Ooo do tell your secret!! BTW- love love love the fabric and you made the perfect pattern to showcase the stripes. Thanks again for a great video!
lol yes! Its amazing to put it on on the longarm! I initially had it in the video but the video was already so much longer than normal! I'll figure out a way to show it at some point. Its a real timesaver! Then all you have to do is trim the quilt and flip the binding to the back.
I think your video length is just right. I appreciate seeing the whole quilt from beginning to end, particularly how you finish off the quilt with your long arm machine. I’m learning so much from how you quilt with the long arm. Do you baste the whole quilt first before you start the patterns? Thanks again Megan, see you in a fortnight.
Thanks for the feedback!! I know it was definitely on the longer side but I didn't want to just cut out major sections :) For basting on the longarm, I baste across the top and then down just the sides of it as far as my machine will reach. If I'm quilting something really densely, I'll do some additional basting or do two complete passes on the quilt (first pass for major shapes/stitch in the ditch then a second for details and filler). That helps keep the quilt square since all the quilting will really draw in the sides of the quilt. :)
Whoa! This is one of the best tutorials I’ve seen. You speak my language. Lol! Love how you explained how the blocks would come together and the different options for matching points. Can I ask what brand of long arm machine you have.? It was amazing. 💕
Thank you!! I'm so glad my explanation worked for you! Everyone learns a little differently so I'm always hoping I'm making sense! I have a handi quilter simply sixteen. Its a great machine, honestly. I haven't had any mechanical troubles and my tension is really reliable. I wish that it was a little bigger but thats usually a pretty minor issue.
I just got a bundle of that and I’m brainstorming! The prints are so big that I don’t want to cut them down too small, so im trying to come up with a fun big block pattern :)
Its a martelli rotary cutter and yes--its so much easier!! It takes a little getting used to but it is so much kinder on my hands and wrists! Now that I've used this one, I always reach for it when I have more than a couple of cuts to make.
What is your seam guide? I checked your Amazon page, but couldn't find it. Btw, fabulous quilt!! Orange is my all time favorite, and it's hard to find a pattern where it wouldn't be overwhelming.
hi Megan,I am so exited to have found-you and your videos, especially as you are quilting on a simply sixteen.May I ask what size frame you have ?I am still a newbie with mine on a little foot frame,so I can only do small quilts.Thankyou again,
Megan - help, help, help!!!! I don't have the 60° ruler so I decided to use your templates. I confirmed the 1" square printed out correctly. When I cut the templates using the outer line, the background ends up at 7.5" which doesn't work with the 6.75" strip the instructions call for. The diamond is 6.75 width which doesn't match with 6.5" strip from the pattern. Do I need to remove the outer lines from the templates? I thought the two lines depict the seam allowance. Help please!! Thank you :-)
Its a martelli rotary cutter! Its amazing--so kind on your hands and wrists! I'll add it to my list--I'm sorry I forgot it since I love it so much! Be sure to buy either a right handed or left handed one though as they aren't interchangeable :)
I got mine on amazon (heres a list of all my favorite notions: www.amazon.com/shop/tinyorchardquilts ) I'm sure you can find it elsewhere as well. I think sewing machines plus usually has them? Its called the juki adjustable seam guide. If you don't have a juki, there are also magnetic seam guides that work on almost any machine.
The orange triangles must have been cut wrong otherwise the diamonds would have come to a point at the center of the block. It is essentially a 1/4 of the diamond and the angle would be the same if you sewed two diamonds together. The orange piece is a half rectangle and anytime you sew a half rectangle to another half rectangle or to a diamond the seam does not come to a point. It will be offset by 1/8". If you simply cut a diamond into fours then you left off one of the seam allowances on the triangle and that is why your diamonds did not meet to a point.
The orange pieces actually are the same as the quarter diamond just with the seam allowances adjusted to the new shape--they were cut from the background yardage with the same ruler.
Really like your teaching, your approach and that you would offer the pattern for free. Unfortunately, the website is clunky when it comes to actually getting the pattern. I also looked at one of your mugs and might have ordered it, but nowhere does the site tell me how many ounces the mug holds. :-( Keep after it, my dear, but please think things through beyond the teaching parts.
I'm sorry you had trouble with the website--I know the checkout process can bog some people down but its really my only option to hold the files for everyone. The mugs are through a third party, so the information should be on their page. I don't have any control over their ordering process, unfortunately. I'm always trying to improve though and I'll do my best in the future.
I NEED that ruler you used to quilt with. Is it in your Amazon store? If so, I didn't see it. Please link it. You're awesome and I LOVE that material. I am getting ready to start quilting some large diamonds and this design (or a variation of it) will be just perfect! Quilt on Sister!
I don't think I did link it--its a great ruler! If I had to use just one, this is the one I'd keep. I don't see it listed on amazon right now but its just the handi quilter straight ruler. I think quilted pineapple and bethanne nemesh both have similar rulers for sale as well. its about 3x12--perfect!
I hope you all enjoy the new inclusion of the quilting! As always, I'm working to refine my videos to be the best they can be. Do you want more quilting? Less quilting? Is the video too long? Are there parts you feel are missing? Leave me a comment below! :)

lol--its definitely worth it to make friends with your longarm!! I know some can be finicky though :)
We all need more projects, right?? I cannot believe I was a one at a time project person for so long!! I definitely dropped that habit!
I am continually impressed by you and your teaching. You are so genuine on the videos, like someone I'd want to ask over for tea/coffee and your instruction is clear and really to the point. Add that all to the generosity of you giving away free patterns...well... you are awesome!

I just watched this again and had to go buy the fabric!!!!! thank you so much xxx

thanks for the technique ! so many quilting videos don't address the flaws with bad technique in placing seams!
Oh I love this it's so bright and happy thank you xx
Fantastic use of big plaids, awesome design xxx
Thank you! I wanted to be sure to keep the pieces big so I didn’t break up the stripes and plaids too much!
That was lots of fun to watch. Thank you. !
Thank you! Great pattern and instructions on construction and quilting!
Beautiful quilt. Love it.
Really cute quilt Meghan! Nice job
Thank you!! :)
Beautiful quilt!
You are a great teacher! Thank you for the quilting tutorials with such great diagrams and explanations.
You are so welcome! I’m glad you enjoyed it :)
I really love your choice of fabrics and block designs! You’re a great teacher as well! Thank you and be well!
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video :) I try really hard to work on my explanations and I'm glad they are coming through :)
I loved your video. Love that you quilted it. Love your videos 😘
Thank you! I'm so happy to be able to include all the quilting and finished quilts in the video :)
Great teaching. Thank you.
Beautiful work!! Love how well you explain matching up the ends (orange color) to triangle. Great tips! Thank you, hope we see more videos 👍🏻🤩
Gorgeous! Orange is a great choice as a background. Frank Sinatra said "orange is the happiest color," and I agree! One of my faves! Thanks for another great tutorial! 🧡
Orange is the happiest color! I love frank sinatra and I can't believe I've never heard that quote! Its perfect! :)
The fabric is gorgeous
Isn't it?? I love Alison Glass' color sense--its so bright and vivid but not too far so that its garish :)
I love listening to your videos. Relaxing, educational and helps a beginner like me… love the colors on this quilt. Thank you
That is stunning!
As always your post is fun and joyful. I enjoy all your videos. Thanks for the cute quilt pattern and quilting ideas. Till next time, stay safe safe.
I use my gloves all the time now that I have them! They relieve so much stress on my hands because I see every day all day!
I use mine a lot--not just when quilting! I thought they were kind of silly when I first started quilting and then I tried them! I'm a total believer now!
I look forward to your tutorials. Love the plaids and how they look in the finished quilt. Thank you for another great tutorial!! See you in 2 weeks.

Gorgeous quilt and pillow!!! ✂️🧵❤️

Thank you! My kids have already stolen it away to their bedrooms but I have snatched it back a few times :)
excellent instructions on angle piecing! I also love plaids, great tutorial!

Thank you for your input all is wanted and needed to expand quilting.
Good choice on the Flame - Orange is a neutral colour that goes with anything.
Excellent tutorial
Thank you so much for the why about how to work with the diamonds. I had thought about doing one and had trouble with the matching so it’s in time out. I may try again.
I hope it works out for you! I've made a couple of diamond quilts and they are a lot of fun--such a nice twist on the traditional square blocks :)

I have tried to make a quilt using plaid but failed. I love this design. This is on my to do list!! Thank you for your instructions.
I've had plaid failures too! They are so tricky!! I'm glad you like this option though :)
Good advice on the tips../

Hi. I’m enjoying your videos, thanks. What sewing machine do you use?
I have a Juki 2010 and I really love it--it has great stitch quality and once you have an automatic thread cutter, its hard to live without! :)
What seam guide are you using? I don't see a link in your comments.
Megan - help, help, help!!!! I don't have the 60° ruler so I decided to use your templates. I confirmed the 1" square printed out correctly. When I cut the templates using the outer line, the background ends up at 7.5" which doesn't work with the 6.75" strip the instructions call for.

How to download this pattern? Please help...😱
How do you go about getting your free patterns
All of my free patterns are available for download on my website tinyorchardquilts.com :)
I might "cheat" and paper piece the quarter block...
The points must be a design element.
The orange pieces actually are the same as the quarter diamond just with the seam allowances adjusted to the new shape--they were cut from the background yardage with the same ruler.
Hmmmm. Just never had that problem before. Cute quilt nonetheless. I just made something similar a few months ago and had no issues with those points.
Thank you for changing out the color of yo it r backgrounds. The white and grey backgrounds were so boring and unimaginative.
