Edit: to continue on the Vietnam point, the famous photo of the Huey over the US Embassy was 3 years later, no US service members were in Vietnam when Saigon “fell.” The people evacuated were US civilians who worked in the embassy.

Sill during the field portion of my Artillery training before moving to Coronado who's English was like watching a fat kid trying to go rock climbing but God dam if he wasn't the funniest Russian I've ever seen in my life. All around solid Marine. After he finally got fluent in English they snatched him up to go work at Fort Meade from what I understand.

Back when bush sr was president, and they were holding the peace talks with russia, my husband was based at wright patt air force base in fairborn ohio, where those talks were being held. I worked at a local hotel, that was picked to house the russian air force that accompanied their president, while bush sr was housed at the base. We had secret service walking the hotel, and the floors the Russians were on was not accessible unless the secret service had your picture, we were all interviewed by the fbi, the russians were picked up and dropped off by secret service and they were not allowed to leave the hotel.
