Didn’t hear the noise until I removed 2 quarts of oil from my engine (previous owner overfilled it) I got it to the right amount and started the car and now I hear it
Your the go to guy!!👍🏾was just out doing my rebuild over cause it was making the wrong kind of music. Fresh build and very noisy valve's. Thank for the post it cleared up a lot I didn't understand.
I have a Mitsubishi Pajero with 290,000 kms but well maintained with regular oil changes. I get this sound of what I am sure is hydraulic lifter sound only after off reading in hot sand dunes for about 2 hours. The sound increases or decrease with throttle, it only goes away by itself after I switch off the engine for about 15-2O minutes & never returns once vehicle is back on tar road for thousands of kilometres or a year until I go back to the sand and it appears again. The sound is very loud like tak tak tak metal sound. I took the car to the dealership and discussed with many technicians and even did engine flushing but nothing seems to be helping. Pl advice
What oil viscosity are you using? If you're in a cold climate, they tend to recommend xW-30 oil for slightly better fuel economy and power if the ambient temperature is cool enough, but for more robust, general purpose all round protection for the largest range of temperature, xW-40 engine oil is better. Personally, I prefer viscosities such as 0W-40 and 5W-40.
I have a ticking noise. Brought it to the shop and they said it is my Rocker Arm....is it worth getting it fixed? Can it be adjusted? 2011 honda pilot EX. U stated to check the oil pressure. If the oil pressure is off what should we do?
Another important thing you didn't mention and might be worth doing (I love your vids) you mentioned you could have low oil levels and oil not getting to the lifters. I also think if your oil pick up is mostly blocked from sludge you also won't be getting enough oil to the lifters even when your oil level is full.
I have a corsa lite 1.4i 2002. The crankshaft was faulty so the mechanic replaced the crankshaft from the bottom(took the engine the bay)now after putting everything back the car refuses to start, the mechanic says the lifters are dry so we must tow it and keep it in 4th gear and it will start....is this correct?
I would also add if you got a big cooalnt leak, the temp senslr wont read the real temperatjre since theres no water to read, When engine starts heating the oil will thin out, and youl get loud valves clatter.
Also my car Ford b max 1.5 diesel if I leave the car overnight or park it up for 30 mins or so wen I rev it few puffs of blue smoke comes out of the exhaust clears in few mins and the turbo has a slight whistle

I have an issue with my engine, its a rover t16 turbo, (t series) it rattles as soon as it starts but quickly stops, and is fine until the engine gets hot, then It wil rattle when there is no load on the engine, while driving it or if i go faster or let tue engine break it wont make the noise, but as soon as i change gear or hold it ever so slightly while cruising it will rattle quite loud around 2rpm any one had this before?

Issue = Tapping noise on cold start > once warm its hardly noticable > soon as you get to 2000rpm, it makes a really annoying clicking tapping noise. if im idle and rev to 2000rpm, cant hear it. if im going 20mpg for example, and engine brake, cant hear it. but soon as you slightly touch the accelrator , you can hear it
Since it changes cold/hot you might be “lucky” that it’s a cracked exhaust manifold rather than engine component. Not a guarantee just food for thought

I'm unsure. I have the Montero
You may need a thicker fluid. Might get to hot and lose viscosity. Complete guess tho

what about Marvel Mystery Oil ? i have seen a lot of feedbacks

your oil could be affecting it, do you do the changes yourself and if so what oil do you use and what engine are you puttting it in

If the noise started after vehicle got flooded and if you got water in the engine then you might have a bent valve, rod knock or worse

No. A noisy lifter isn't going to destroy the block. Mechanic sounds lazy and doesn't want to find the issue.
