NIce footage, brings back looks of memories. I ran on the TTI in train service. That is a nice scenic line especially in the fall. The tunnel south of your shot is over 1600 feet where as the one you shot of is about 800feet or so. By the time you get to it you have made the hill with the long tangent in front of you and can actually get up to 20 plus mph with the right hp/ ton ratio. Had several experiences getting stalled in the big tunnel, not much fun.
Has there been any traffic on this line since 2015? The coal market has experienced serious retrenchment, and Maysville is a much quieter railroad town in recent years. I remember the moribund condition of the old L&N branch line to Paris back in the 1970s, before it's resurrection from the mud and eventual transformation into the unique shortline we all knew as TTI. There were few railfan experiences quite like witnessing the smoke and grit of those vintage GEs cresting the summit a few miles out of Maysville, horsepower defying gravity on the long drag out of the Ohio River valley. Sadly, unfavorable market forces have allowed nature to gradually reclaim this railroad into overgrown obscurity. For those of us who got to enjoy it while it lasted, it was a fantastic show!
@@tandt6869 I'm not sure. If they can get a guaranteed coal contract large enough to repair the many washouts then it might. I believe current management is content to let the railroad portion die off completely. What I would do is create a train excursion running from Paris to Ewing or Flemingsburg Junction. The latter being the last place with a side track to run around a train until you get to Maysville. My father built TTI back in the 1980's. I would love to see his work live on.
In March 2004 there was a major coal train derailment on this line at Lewisburg Ky. I took pics of them pulling loaded coal cars out of the creek. I also got to get in the lead locomotive that had broken windows and had mud inside it.
I returned to the area last Friday and followed the line from Paris north. I was hoping to gat the GE's in the new paint pulling the hill, but we came across nothing and had to continue on....:( Tim
Love those old U-boats..nothing else chugs like these..well except the old 251 powered alcos....great video

I worked there for nearly 15 years. It truly was a fantastic show.

@@jimpowell1802 I miss seeing TTI go by. It would make a great tourist line and so much more.

Unfortunately TTI is no longer operating. The line was shut down due to washouts
Not true. CSX shut TTI down because they lost the coal contract
