Happy Birthday Harry Yee!!!!! Bruce, you must feel so honoured to have been contacted by Harry's daughter. This is a testament to the great work that you and Rev Media do. I am sure Harry will be very happy when he sees this beautiful video. Yes. Somehow you have captured the beauty of Hawaii on film from the northern climate of Canada. Great job!!! Great back story. Great drink. Just great!!!! All of you must be so proud of your accomplishments. Season 3!!! Wow, congratulations to all of you for doing such great work. Keep them coming :)
+Denise Baker Thanks Denise, the crew and I have the best time putting these episodes together. I heard from Harry's daughter and she'll be showing it to him on Sunday at his birthday celebration. I wish I could be there to see his reaction, but alas Hawaii is pretty far. Maybe someday! 😜
Harry Yee has some wise words there. Well I'm glad to hear he's around and doing well! Here's to trying another one of your delicious drinks and I can't wait to see the next video! Keep it up Bruce and Crew!
+David Lemonds Thanks David! Harry Yee is a wise man for sure. It was my pleasure to honour him. The crew and I are currently planning our Halloween episodes- lotsa good stuff coming down the pipe. Stay tuned!
I absolutely love watching your videos you have inspired us to build a tiki bar in our basement would love to see more tiki cocktail videos from you in the near future keep up the good work and have a fantastic Fourth of July.
There are a few overproof rums that will work as a substitute for Bacardi 151. Lemon Hart 151 is a great choice if you can find it. Gosling's Black Seal 151 is a bold spicy rum with dried fruit and molasses flavours. It's a little darker than Bacardi 151 so keep that in mind when making your Tropical Itch. Don q 151 has a similar colour to Bacardi 151. Plantation overproof OFTD rum has slightly less alcohol at 69%abv/138 proof. Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum at 63%abv/126 proof is a full-bodied white rum with fruit aromas, brown sugar and spice notes. Pusser’s British Navy Overproof Rum is intense and warming at 75%abv/150 proof. I guess the bottom line is, you'll have to do some experimenting seeing as Bacardi 151 is no longer available. Cheers!
I just rewatched this video, and this time I realized that, in terms of alcohol content, this drink makes the Zombie look like a Bahama Mama or other light Caribbean punch. I guess, since Harry Yee was working at a resort hotel, he figured his guests were going to be walking home (not driving).
Gosling's 151 would work just fine. I find it's smoother than Bacardi 151 having more sweet vanilla and lingering caramel flavours. The colour of your "Itch" will naturally turn out a little darker but just as tasty. Cheers!
Bruce, you're the man. I just made a pumpkin spice syrup. I want to make some cocktails. I'm going to bring it in to work tomorrow and let the bartenders play around. Do you have any suggestions? The syrup has organic can sugar, pumpkin, cinnamon, ginger, vanilla bean, nutmeg, and allspice. It's awesome! If you could steer me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it. We're planning to use rum, and call it Rum Pum Pum, tentatively haha. Anyway, keep up the good work Bruce! I love your channel.
One thing I'd like to add, just in case you get around to responding. I'm kinda worried the flavors in the syrup are too similar to those in a lot of rums. So I'm wondering if that's a good or bad thing? Thanks in advance.
+Ethan Ostrand Hey Ethan! That sounds like it'd be pretty good I'll have to try that sometime. Rum would be my first instinct however, vodka being a neutral spirit would work well. I'd have no problem with the smokiness of Bourbon either. It really depends on what direction you take your cocktail. You might want to try adding flavours that complement pumpkin spices. Things like apples (Calvados or Applejack) and cranberry juice would definitely pair well with your syrup. Savory and citrus flavors go well with pumpkin too. Even herbs like rosemary and sage would be a bold addition with citrus notes of fresh orange or lemon. Try a splash of Grand Marnier or Cointreau. And let's not forget chocolate (Cream de Cacao) and nut flavours like hazelnuts (Frangelico) walnuts and pecans. Just have fun experimenting. I'm sure you'll nail it.
Thanks Bruce! So what I did for the syrup was cut up some fresh pumpkin from my garden, poured the sugar on top with some cinnamon sticks, raw ginger, nutmeg, all spice and a vanilla I split and scraped. Everything organic and local when possible. I let that sit over night before I threw it on the stove with a little bit of water while it simmered. The flavor before I cooked it was actually pretty interesting too. Then I strained it and the color is amazing! You'll definitely have to try it!
+Ethan Ostrand That sounds wonderful! My crew wanted me to do a pumpkin syrup this fall but we didn’t have time and the episodes are scheduled in advance. I may have to try one next fall though. Keep experimenting Ethan, it sounds like you’re doing great, cheers!
I am not able to find out Bacardi 151 in Italy. Could you suggest something similar for the tropical itch topping.? Thank youand sorry for disturbing. Maximilian
Hi thanks for watching! There's no real substitute for 151 proof rum. Depending on where you live, I know Lamb's Navy makes a 151 proof rum. Then, if you can find it, Lemon Hart the "Gold Standard" of over-proof rums is what to be on the look out for, you can even try Goslings Black Seal rum. I'm still trying to track down a bottle of that smooth demerara rum. The best I can suggest is when you're on vacation, check out some out of the way liquor stores to see what they carry. Good luck on your search.
Cant get Bacardi 151 Rum anywhere. They took them off the shelves in 2016 - stinkers!! The nanny state at it's finest!! Darn. So I guess I will make a dumbed down version with regular rum. LOL Here goes.
+Darren Maybee Hey Darren! I used a brand called Rubicon. The only one I could find in the stores. I should have made it from scratch but, all of my time was spent learning how to play the Ukulele, ha!
BarTalk&Cocktails yeah thats pretty much the best we can get here, or a stores own brand. Passion fruits are very expensive. I once got a tropical juice drink which was very close and really nice. I was using that to make pornstar martinis before i realised that all i needed was the pulp from one passion fruit to make the drink. Passion fruits are £1.25 for three small fruits from tescos in england. Hey..... a pornstar martini!!! (Hint) Either way this drink youve made here looks delicious and its certainly going down my neck at the weekend. Nice one Bruce
+Darren Maybee Wow that is expensive. If the end result is an amazing cocktail I don’t mind the occasional splurge. Can’t make it a habit though, ha. We currently have our episodes scheduled into December but perhaps we can do a pornstar martini in the New Year. We’ll be filming Halloween next, so we’re excited for those. Stay tuned!
+Captain Zeke I know, it's a pity they discontinued that rum. I should have bought a few bottles before that happened. There's no real substitute for 151 proof rum. I eat well, sleep well, and take a wide range of supplements including some crazy homemade medicinal tonics. Also, I try to keep my stress levels down. Tough to do sometimes, especially today. I think the food we eat plays a significant role in maintaining energy - garbage in, garbage out... I eat mostly organic with very few processed foods in my diet. My job tending a busy bar helps as I need to be on my game both physically and mentally. I run about 40 miles (65km) a week behind that bar. Hard to believe, but it's true. I also drink well... Ha! Cheers, Yusuf. Start with lots of clean water. Hydration is really important.
I love this man’s energy 😂

How sweet of you to give an ode to Harry! The only thing I am surprised with the drink is there is not a drop of citrus in it. Hmmm...
The Harry episodes are some of my favorites. I’ve had the pleasure of keeping in touch with his family over the past couple years. Very cool.
Thanks, that was fun!
Thanks for tuning in!!
I can work out the pineapple garnish from there. Making that today. Need a hurricane glass though
Did you make it?

@@BarTalkCocktails I heard this summer (2018) they meaning Bacardi were no longer making 151 due to lawsuits.
I'm surprised it wasn't just called Harry's itch. Sorry, had to lol. Love the show btw
