Zeref never was a bad person all he wanted was to bring back atleast his little brother back to life but it cost him his freedom and happiness because if he tried to care for someone he would just end up killing him/her that's why he Acts like he doesn't care at all I'm glad in the 100 year quest natsu finally accepted zeref

Natsu's ideology is so contradicting in this scene. "Happiness is yours to make"? Zeref literally just said he's forbidden to be happy, because he traded his own happiness for his only family in this world. Even after witnessing Igneel's sacrifice for him, Natsu still doesn't seem to understand how blessed he is. The man just wanted to die in peace Their relationship felt so much more connected back in Tenroujima. Zeref was tearing up after seeing Natsu, and Natsu was a bit sympathetic towards this stranger (That Tenroujima scene is at the end of ep 100)
Much like Laxus who disowned his own father at the gmg. It didn’t matter the moment they decided to hurt their friends and those that are like family to them.
Very true, I appreciated Natsu's speeches on these shows but people need to understand his words are very idealistic and even arrogant for some. Many of the things that Natsu as a character wont feel or experience is because of plot and writing. Even Lisanna who was from my understanding suppose to be permanently dead came back to life. His father is the one he did lose but really it was just his father and he gained so many loved ones almost immediately after. Natsu is one of those people who has a lot and its almost impossible for him accept people like Zeref. Peoples suffering are all valid and significant but some people go through things worse than others and end up with too much pain to overcome. I think that's why a lot of people like Zeref. He is a good person who got dealt a bad hand in life but he was always strong. That's why even though his passing was beautifully done in the last few moments, his plans should have done significantly more damage on the "good side", like have more members actually kick the can.
@@buster3041 Im not saying that Natsu's words have no merit because they do. In fact he has a lot of inspiring exchanges that some audience members I see appreciate. However, they come off as arrogant to me as stated by my previous comment and why I think that. I don't really want to keep up this exchange but I'll leave you with this, why Natsu as a whole, and to be honest fairy tail as a show, has some shallow build ups to their characters. An example of difference is the Naruto series with the Sasuke vs Naruto fight at the waterfall, Naruto is adamant to preach to Sasuke that he is wrong and needs to come back to the village, he's ignorant to Sasuke's desire for revenge, in a lot of ways he knows that Sasuke wants the power to kill Itachi but he doesn't truly understand the pain and anguish Sasuke feels to drive him to leave the village, we can say that in this Naruto shows some level of unknowingly being selfish as all he wants is for Sasuke to stay in the village while not taking into account Sasuke's feelings as well (keep in mind I think Sasuke was selfish too). So I want focus in again with Natsu's speech with Zeref and how different the impact it has here with Zeref and to me as a viewer, Natsu doesn't acknowledge his pain or understand the whole scope of how things ended up where they did, not like how it was written in Naruto. Naruto in the end says something shocking to everyone but most of all to Sasuke, he says he understands because he finally experienced what Sasuke went through. Maybe this speech would have been better delivered by someone like Mavis, given shes the only one who understands him in the whole world. Here in this scene with Natsu it just comes off as shallow words. I want to close this off by repeating that this is all how I interpret these characters, we all have our opinions.

Natsu’s not wrong tho and he has a really solid point, his argument is that by resetting the world and redoing everything, Zeref is throwing away literally everything people have gone through, all their struggles, all their bonds, all their happiness, everyones lives and everything they have lived through will just disappear if Zeref succeeds, in this scenario, Zeref is only thinking of himself, and it is entirely understandable why he would want reset the world, I mean his reasoning makes complete sense, however Natsu is not willing to accept throwing away everyone in the worlds lives and history, he is who he is because of the struggles he had to go through in life, Natsu can’t accept everyone’s lives being undone just for Zeref and I agree with him, I wouldn’t accept undoing my entire life just for this one suffering man Plus it’s not as if Natsu doesn’t feel for Zeref, he does, he says as much in the 100 Year Quest, however he cannot stand by while Zeref tries to destroy everything he lovez

Natsu was just being hypocritical in this scene, just a few moments ago he was crying because he thought Lucy died and after that because he didn't want Gray to sacrifice himself. He has family in the form of companions. Zeref can't even cherish his companions or his curse will kill them. Natsu went on a rampage when he taught Lucy died, now imagine poor Zeref who broke the ultimate curse of immortality just by loving Mavis, the only person he taught he could be allowed to love and cherish. Natsu hasn't walked the world alone for 400 years for his brother's sake to be lecturing Zeref about love and family. Mavis can lecture him about love and living, but Natsu can't. Not if he's going to be speaking arrogantly as if Zeref's devotion to living beings is any less than his.

HONESTLY, I feel for Zaref. Natsu doesn't understand that his curse cannot be lifted and actually has caused him pain and trauma throughout his entire life. If I remember right, he witnessed his family die before him, and he got cursed BECAUSE he brought Natsu back. Zaref isn't able to love or feel happiness because of the curse and its shown in Manga and anime that he hates the curse. He doesn't want to hurt or kill, but he's been pushed so far with trauma that he has nowhere else to go. Like, He LOVED and still does love Mavis, but she died in his arms because of the curse. This poor guy has seen so much more and Natsu said, "Thats not how families work", it's a bit different in Zaref's case. He doesn't have a choice. Natsu also acts like he's never harmed or went berserk on someone he considers family (Fighting Gray as E.N.D), he couldn't control that so he should understand from that aspect. I still love how intriguing the storyline for Fairy Tail is. Always will be one of my favorites!

Zeref: Everyone I love dies, I can't have a "family", how can I be happy? Natsu: You have to make happiness, that's what family is about! What??? I still hate this interaction as much as I hate how Natsu and Zeref's relationship/arc ended. I don't if I'm misinterpreting, but this is the way I saw it. For someone like Natsu, who's happiness so obviously relies on the connections he's made with Igneel, Fairy Tail, etc. to tell Zeref that happiness has to be of his own making (and thus making a family) when he literally can't (I mean, he did surround himself with people and an empire but it's not really "family" if he can't emotionally connect back to them) is just patronizing? I get where Natsu is coming from trying to protect HIS life and loved ones, but he shouldn't expect Zeref, the guy who's been struggling for 300 years with no happiness in sight, to sympathize/empathize with such an idealistic point of view.

I never wanted to fight Natsu so much in my life until this scene. As much as I love Natsu he was just so infuriating and arrogant to me in this scene. My heartaches for Zeref, he endured so much that no one should ever endure what he has endured. Natsu should not be so angry with him, it is all because of Zeref he has the life he has now. Zeref now lives in despair and sorrow because he brought him back to life because he loved him so much. Imagine living for 400 years and being as lonely as he was but, within those 400 years the woman you love and thought could not die to the curse just dies in your arms. Not only that but, you are not even able to see or love your younger brother even though, it is the reason you even brought him back to life. The people you care for and the things around you are constantly dying so, you have to show no emotion so that they don't die. I honestly understand why he went "insane" (more like he couldn't stand it anymore and was just tired of it) as he did in the end -- if that were me I would have gone insane way sooner. Natsu has not lose as many people as Zeref has. He lose Lisanna but she ended up being brought back and he lose Igneel. He had so many people around him to comfort him through the losses but, Zeref had no one there for him. He has just endured so much pain and suffering that he created demons to kill him but, those demons ended up worshiping him in the end. Zeref was also telling him constantly that he was not able to obtain happiness and love others no matter how hard he tried because they would die but, all Natsu said is that that's not how it works and that you need to make your own happiness, like if Zeref hasn't tried. Zeref is literally unable to because of the curse. The curse he obtained after bringing Natsu back to life yet he never blamed Natsu once for the curse. Natsu also contradicts himself when he says that happiness is something you make for yourself but, Zeref is literally trying to make happiness for himself by erasing the world and rewriting history to create a new world where he can be happy and free himself from the curse. Natsu also never took into consideration why Zeref became the way he is now, like what drove him to do what he was doing??? no all he was was a villain to him but that couldn't be farther from the truth. Zeref is just a man who has been alive for so long that all he wants to do is die because he is in constant suffering and in sorrow all alone. Sorry for the rant I just had too much to say on this matter and still do have more but can't write more since this is already too much lol.
All i would like to say is natsu never had any connection with zeref to begin with. Nor is zeref was responsible for any big emotional event for natsu. Natsu doesn't have good memories with zeref. We know what he went through but not natsu. To natsu everything zeref is doing is erasing natsu's whole life and every single moment he and all the his peers has faced which made him who he is. Yes ik Natsu had no connection to Zeref but that doesn't mean he should have been so rude to Zeref like he was. Especially cause Natsu never heard his side of the story. I am not saying what Zeref was gonna do was right but people in the FT world could have at least heard his side of the story instead of deciding he was a Villain just cause he created demons that didn't do what they were created to do and cause people called him "The Dark Wizard". to be honest, try not considered the plot, those line of natsu are actually meant for viewers to learn not for Zeref. So, I can say, its just the writer just try his hard so much to fit this moral lesson to the scene for viewers to know.

Honestly as much as I can see why people don’t like Natsu’s message to Zeref here, I personally think it’s one of the best scenes in the whole series, since I don’t think the point of it was it sounding contradictory, but rather, Natsu knows someone else who is also cursed, Mavis, and she never truly became evil, unlike Zeref who did. Maybe Natsu saying that happiness is for him to make meant that there is a way for him to pursue a path towards happiness like how Mavis clearly showed joy and happiness despite being still cursed by Ankersham post lacrima. It could also be interpreted as Zeref being contradictory due to the nature of the curse, so Natsu is retaliating with equal contradictions. I’m a really big fan of this scene even though I can understand why others don’t like it or see Natsu as a hypocrite

I think the real villains in this are the gods who cursed Zeref in the first place just for wantingnhis brother back. Because of them he became the immortal black mage who went insane. Zeref is basically a victim. And honestly Natsu is takking out of his ass at this point without understanding what Zeref went through. No, that's not how families work, but that is literally how his curse works. Zeref literally kills anythingnhe cares about, so no, happiness is not for him to make because if he tries, he will kill that happiness.
Ankhseram cursed Zeref for interfering with the balance of life and death by bringing back a life that was lost. However, there is a second way to look at it. It's about misunderstanding the meaning of love, as Zeref only brought back a life without giving and equal life in return - his own. Love is sacrifice, and Zeref never sacrificed anything to get Natsu back. I think this is why his death was the catalyst for fully reviving Natsu. Without consequence, would Zeref had stopped with only Natsu? What of their parents, and the many other families he could have revived with his books? It is something that could not be allowed onto the world.
If zeref loved himself, he could've been released from the curse of contradiction. I think, the only thing he needed to do was value himself and his own life... whose value he forgot because of the curse's immortality.

Gotta love how this entire comment section is missing the point of what Natsu just said and the context of what it meant. Zeref IN THIS MOMENT is proclaiming he wasnt allowed to have happiness or family AND THEREFORE HIS SOLUTION is to use what ever means necessary to undo everything to do with himself, that includes attacking and hurting both strangers and the people he cared about (Natsu, and Mavis) This scene also came around when he tortured Larcade WHO SAW HIM AS A FATHER. What Natsu is mad at him for is choosing to run away from his pain and hurting those around him in the process, he's mad because Zeref is rejecting the people WHO can and do care about him, he and using his curse as an excuse to so he can use Fairy heart to go back in time. But the biggest issue here is that Zeref keeps trying to die instead of trying to undo his curse. Even if we think about Natsu being unsympathetic here................ WHY SHOULD HE BE SYMPATHETIC, LUCY, GRAY, MAKAROV and several others nearly died because of Zeref's invasion.
Zeref did try to undo the curse, in his other flashbacks he talks about looking for a solution. After 400 YEARS of isolation, anyone would want to die.

He wants to undo the curse obviously (which i think is where our disagreement lies?) 2. He wants to kill acnologia because as he states to mavis, he beleieves acnologia to be powerful enough to destroy the world and fears he and mavis would be stuck with him until the end of time. Addressing 1, from his perspective he cant die. He knows that if someone with the curse of contradiction loves someone, they die even if they also have the curse (as seen with mavis). However, he states when explaining this that "his curse was stronger", which wasnt true, mavis was confused while zeref was definitively in love as she clarifies in their final moments. This means from his perspective at the time of his plan, the only way to break the curse was if someone with a stronger curse loved him, and there was no one. Larcade didnt have the curse and was ultimately useless, (though if he had let larcade put natsu to sleep he would have won, but contradictions and all that) Addressing 2, while we know acnologia ultimately lost, zeref believed he would win. Obviously he underestimaed natsu, which also led to zerefs own defeat, but his fear was valid. I said it before but I'll reiterate, before he takes mavis's power he voices his fear that he and mavis would be the only beings left on the earth, at acnologias mercy, until the end of time (he believes he cannot die). Both of these reasons from Zerefs POV lead to resetting the world. IT IS NOT JUSTIFIED. But it is understandable, Zeref got dealt such a shitty hand with that curse.

Natsu has a point, but at the same time, Zeref's life is pretty miserable, so saying those things didn't really help. I mean, at least he went to the afterlife with his loved ones, so everything worked out in the end.

I get the point on part of Natsu though I guess it wasn't properly delivered: "Like, if you think you don't have a family, what am I to you then?" scene. And the moral lesson the writer wanted to share didn't fit to the scene for this one.
Despite being a tragic and sympathetic character, Zeref is my fav villain in Fairy Tail and despite being the older brother of Natsu I also consider Zeref as the archenemy of Natsu

Natsu's ideology is so contradicting in this scene. "Happiness is yours to make"? Zeref literally just said he's forbidden to be happy, because he traded his own happiness for his only family in this world. Even after witnessing Igneel's sacrifice for him, Natsu still doesn't seem to understand how blessed he is. The man just wanted to die in peace
Their relationship felt so much more connected back in Tenroujima. Zeref was tearing up after seeing Natsu, and Natsu was a bit sympathetic towards this stranger

Very true, I appreciated Natsu's speeches on these shows but people need to understand his words are very idealistic and even arrogant for some. Many of the things that Natsu as a character wont feel or experience is because of plot and writing. Even Lisanna who was from my understanding suppose to be permanently dead came back to life. His father is the one he did lose but really it was just his father and he gained so many loved ones almost immediately after. Natsu is one of those people who has a lot and its almost impossible for him accept people like Zeref. Peoples suffering are all valid and significant but some people go through things worse than others and end up with too much pain to overcome. I think that's why a lot of people like Zeref. He is a good person who got dealt a bad hand in life but he was always strong. That's why even though his passing was beautifully done in the last few moments, his plans should have done significantly more damage on the "good side", like have more members actually kick the can.

@@buster3041 Im not saying that Natsu's words have no merit because they do. In fact he has a lot of inspiring exchanges that some audience members I see appreciate. However, they come off as arrogant to me as stated by my previous comment and why I think that. I don't really want to keep up this exchange but I'll leave you with this, why Natsu as a whole, and to be honest fairy tail as a show, has some shallow build ups to their characters. An example of difference is the Naruto series with the Sasuke vs Naruto fight at the waterfall, Naruto is adamant to preach to Sasuke that he is wrong and needs to come back to the village, he's ignorant to Sasuke's desire for revenge, in a lot of ways he knows that Sasuke wants the power to kill Itachi but he doesn't truly understand the pain and anguish Sasuke feels to drive him to leave the village, we can say that in this Naruto shows some level of unknowingly being selfish as all he wants is for Sasuke to stay in the village while not taking into account Sasuke's feelings as well (keep in mind I think Sasuke was selfish too). So I want focus in again with Natsu's speech with Zeref and how different the impact it has here with Zeref and to me as a viewer, Natsu doesn't acknowledge his pain or understand the whole scope of how things ended up where they did, not like how it was written in Naruto. Naruto in the end says something shocking to everyone but most of all to Sasuke, he says he understands because he finally experienced what Sasuke went through. Maybe this speech would have been better delivered by someone like Mavis, given shes the only one who understands him in the whole world. Here in this scene with Natsu it just comes off as shallow words. I want to close this off by repeating that this is all how I interpret these characters, we all have our opinions.

Natsu was just being hypocritical in this scene, just a few moments ago he was crying because he thought Lucy died and after that because he didn't want Gray to sacrifice himself. He has family in the form of companions. Zeref can't even cherish his companions or his curse will kill them. Natsu went on a rampage when he taught Lucy died, now imagine poor Zeref who broke the ultimate curse of immortality just by loving Mavis, the only person he taught he could be allowed to love and cherish. Natsu hasn't walked the world alone for 400 years for his brother's sake to be lecturing Zeref about love and family. Mavis can lecture him about love and living, but Natsu can't. Not if he's going to be speaking arrogantly as if Zeref's devotion to living beings is any less than his.

HONESTLY, I feel for Zaref. Natsu doesn't understand that his curse cannot be lifted and actually has caused him pain and trauma throughout his entire life. If I remember right, he witnessed his family die before him, and he got cursed BECAUSE he brought Natsu back. Zaref isn't able to love or feel happiness because of the curse and its shown in Manga and anime that he hates the curse. He doesn't want to hurt or kill, but he's been pushed so far with trauma that he has nowhere else to go. Like, He LOVED and still does love Mavis, but she died in his arms because of the curse. This poor guy has seen so much more and Natsu said, "Thats not how families work", it's a bit different in Zaref's case. He doesn't have a choice. Natsu also acts like he's never harmed or went berserk on someone he considers family (Fighting Gray as E.N.D), he couldn't control that so he should understand from that aspect. I still love how intriguing the storyline for Fairy Tail is. Always will be one of my favorites!

What??? I still hate this interaction as much as I hate how Natsu and Zeref's relationship/arc ended. I don't if I'm misinterpreting, but this is the way I saw it. For someone like Natsu, who's happiness so obviously relies on the connections he's made with Igneel, Fairy Tail, etc. to tell Zeref that happiness has to be of his own making (and thus making a family) when he literally can't (I mean, he did surround himself with people and an empire but it's not really "family" if he can't emotionally connect back to them) is just patronizing?

I never wanted to fight Natsu so much in my life until this scene. As much as I love Natsu he was just so infuriating and arrogant to me in this scene. My heartaches for Zeref, he endured so much that no one should ever endure what he has endured. Natsu should not be so angry with him, it is all because of Zeref he has the life he has now. Zeref now lives in despair and sorrow because he brought him back to life because he loved him so much. Imagine living for 400 years and being as lonely as he was but, within those 400 years the woman you love and thought could not die to the curse just dies in your arms. Not only that but, you are not even able to see or love your younger brother even though, it is the reason you even brought him back to life. The people you care for and the things around you are constantly dying so, you have to show no emotion so that they don't die. I honestly understand why he went "insane" (more like he couldn't stand it anymore and was just tired of it) as he did in the end -- if that were me I would have gone insane way sooner. Natsu has not lose as many people as Zeref has. He lose Lisanna but she ended up being brought back and he lose Igneel. He had so many people around him to comfort him through the losses but, Zeref had no one there for him. He has just endured so much pain and suffering that he created demons to kill him but, those demons ended up worshiping him in the end. Zeref was also telling him constantly that he was not able to obtain happiness and love others no matter how hard he tried because they would die but, all Natsu said is that that's not how it works and that you need to make your own happiness, like if Zeref hasn't tried. Zeref is literally unable to because of the curse. The curse he obtained after bringing Natsu back to life yet he never blamed Natsu once for the curse. Natsu also contradicts himself when he says that happiness is something you make for yourself but, Zeref is literally trying to make happiness for himself by erasing the world and rewriting history to create a new world where he can be happy and free himself from the curse. Natsu also never took into consideration why Zeref became the way he is now, like what drove him to do what he was doing??? no all he was was a villain to him but that couldn't be farther from the truth. Zeref is just a man who has been alive for so long that all he wants to do is die because he is in constant suffering and in sorrow all alone.

Yes ik Natsu had no connection to Zeref but that doesn't mean he should have been so rude to Zeref like he was. Especially cause Natsu never heard his side of the story. I am not saying what Zeref was gonna do was right but people in the FT world could have at least heard his side of the story instead of deciding he was a Villain just cause he created demons that didn't do what they were created to do and cause people called him "The Dark Wizard". Honestly as much as I can see why people don’t like Natsu’s message to Zeref here, I personally think it’s one of the best scenes in the whole series, since I don’t think the point of it was it sounding contradictory, but rather, Natsu knows someone else who is also cursed, Mavis, and she never truly became evil, unlike Zeref who did. Maybe Natsu saying that happiness is for him to make meant that there is a way for him to pursue a path towards happiness like how Mavis clearly showed joy and happiness despite being still cursed by Ankersham post lacrima. It could also be interpreted as Zeref being contradictory due to the nature of the curse, so Natsu is retaliating with equal contradictions. I’m a really big fan of this scene even though I can understand why others don’t like it or see Natsu as a hypocrite

I think the real villains in this are the gods who cursed Zeref in the first place just for wantingnhis brother back. Because of them he became the immortal black mage who went insane. Zeref is basically a victim. And honestly Natsu is takking out of his ass at this point without understanding what Zeref went through. No, that's not how families work, but that is literally how his curse works. Zeref literally kills anythingnhe cares about, so no, happiness is not for him to make because if he tries, he will kill that happiness.
Ankhseram cursed Zeref for interfering with the balance of life and death by bringing back a life that was lost. However, there is a second way to look at it. It's about misunderstanding the meaning of love, as Zeref only brought back a life without giving and equal life in return - his own. Love is sacrifice, and Zeref never sacrificed anything to get Natsu back. I think this is why his death was the catalyst for fully reviving Natsu.
Without consequence, would Zeref had stopped with only Natsu? What of their parents, and the many other families he could have revived with his books? It is something that could not be allowed onto the world.

Gotta love how this entire comment section is missing the point of what Natsu just said and the context of what it meant.
Zeref IN THIS MOMENT is proclaiming he wasnt allowed to have happiness or family AND THEREFORE HIS SOLUTION is to use what ever means necessary to undo everything to do with himself, that includes attacking and hurting both strangers and the people he cared about (Natsu, and Mavis) This scene also came around when he tortured Larcade WHO SAW HIM AS A FATHER.
What Natsu is mad at him for is choosing to run away from his pain and hurting those around him in the process, he's mad because Zeref is rejecting the people WHO can and do care about him, he and using his curse as an excuse to so he can use Fairy heart to go back in time.
But the biggest issue here is that Zeref keeps trying to die instead of trying to undo his curse.
Even if we think about Natsu being unsympathetic here................ WHY SHOULD HE BE SYMPATHETIC, LUCY, GRAY, MAKAROV and several others nearly died because of Zeref's invasion.
Zeref did try to undo the curse, in his other flashbacks he talks about looking for a solution.
After 400 YEARS of isolation, anyone would want to die.

Most of his solutions to his curse was his own death to begin with. His curse of contradiction would force him to live the more he wanted to die.
Also lets not pretend he is just suicidal this man started a war because he wants to redo his life, not caring about the lives he would take, or that he would erase the current reality.

Zeref sees no other option than resetting the world for * 2* reasons.
1. He wants to undo the curse obviously (which i think is where our disagreement lies?)
2. He wants to kill acnologia because as he states to mavis, he beleieves acnologia to be powerful enough to destroy the world and fears he and mavis would be stuck with him until the end of time.
Addressing 1, from his perspective he cant die. He knows that if someone with the curse of contradiction loves someone, they die even if they also have the curse (as seen with mavis). However, he states when explaining this that "his curse was stronger", which wasnt true, mavis was confused while zeref was definitively in love as she clarifies in their final moments. This means from his perspective at the time of his plan, the only way to break the curse was if someone with a stronger curse loved him, and there was no one. Larcade didnt have the curse and was ultimately useless, (though if he had let larcade put natsu to sleep he would have won, but contradictions and all that)
Addressing 2, while we know acnologia ultimately lost, zeref believed he would win. Obviously he underestimaed natsu, which also led to zerefs own defeat, but his fear was valid. I said it before but I'll reiterate, before he takes mavis's power he voices his fear that he and mavis would be the only beings left on the earth, at acnologias mercy, until the end of time (he believes he cannot die).
Both of these reasons from Zerefs POV lead to resetting the world. IT IS NOT JUSTIFIED. But it is understandable, Zeref got dealt such a shitty hand with that curse.

Thats because even someone as dense as Natsu figured out that Zeref and Mavis have a special bond.
Natsu has a point, but at the same time, Zeref's life is pretty miserable, so saying those things didn't really help. I mean, at least he went to the afterlife with his loved ones, so everything worked out in the end.
