21:07 The guy who taught me casting had us stack metal on the lid to heat up prior to adding to the crucible, to drive out any moisture, and to keep it from cooling off any metal already in the pot. Thanks for producing this.
Yes that's a good idea mate my copper was dry but I will do that in future to speed up the melting. Cheers.
I found an instant read temperature gun with a digital display cheap. They're available in different ranges suitable for low and high temperatures. The probes are good, but the instantaneous ability is handy as a fast checking method. I've been waiting for the Vevor furnaces like yours to go on sale for a while. 200 dollars Canadian is about as low as I've seen. A heat treat use video would be great!
Yea I have one James only goes up to 500c I think... good value here that forge around £80 I think. 👍
Looks a great bit of kit there mate 👍
Cheers bud yep compact and does a great job 👍
Great video as ever Loz - thanks for that mate! I'd love to see how the little furnace would work as a heat treat forge!
Cheers Mate, yea im going to video it out of interest to see if I am right 😆
I’d be very interested to see the heat treatment experiment please Loz……….cracking bit of kit 👍🏻
Thanks Richard I've done the video might get it up tomorrow. 👍👍
@LozHarrop
Great vid
How did copper pipe help with air flow
I've got a new furnace with double burner like yours
And was thinking of adding a little pipe cover to slide over the intake valves
yes, please show how to make a heat treatment oven
Thanks will do.
When I have used Satanite, it cracks and chips off. Perhaps it is because I keep the forge outside under a tin roof and it gets damp?
I love your crucible tongs- brilliant.
I like to watch Windy Hill Foundry on RUclips.
best wishes
Frank
Thanks frank, will check windy hill out, yes satanite does crack and craze on a blanket its more about containing the fibres really, you can buy blanket Rigidiser which if applied before the satanite helps to prevent the flaking . Cheers,
Greetings from Ireland. Great video. I would love to see the heat treating oven. I would also love to see an update on your shop stove, yes it's that time of year again.
Hi Bernard, yes sure is that time the Geese are coming over in droves mate. will do a quick update in the next week on the shop stove get the camera inside see how the innards are. Will be trying out the oven tomorrow to heat treat a chef knife so camera at the ready. Cheers.
I have that same furnace! Can't beat it for the price. I made copper ingots out of a bunch of scrap copper wire fragments. Haven't progressed beyond that, but someday... Your video reminds me, it's time to clean and service my shop rocket stove made using your design.
Yep it's a good price for sure the component parts to make it would come out more now no doubt. Fired my rocket up last week all good to go here mate 👍👍
