This was the best angle in wrestling history...his description has brought back MANY great memories of this time. I was at this Houston show and when Watts/JYD, oops Stagger Lee won, the crowd became unglued. I wasn't too happy as I was a Cornette fan. Mid-South was the tape traders’ gold standard in that era. Early cable TV days so Watts’ syndication was disparate and sometimes showed at inconsistent times of day (usually preempted by sporting events). It was the last American wrestling that had us smart marks asking “Is some of this real?” E.G. Duggan getting his head split open by the turnbuckle bolt and the show featuring him getting stitched up. Plus the production value and approach gave it a real sport feel. And hot hot hot crowds.

It's interesting how Watts was so plugged in during this time period yet the industry had completely passed him by when he came to WCW. Strange decisions like taking away top rope moves and thinking that would suddenly generate heat from a group of fans who had no reference point to that rule. The guy became quite out of touch over a relatively short timespan.

With a heavy emphasis on NWA MidSouth and an even heavier emphasis on the Territory's top Star Junkyard Dog. The action was incredibly compelling and the interviews of various goodies and baddies were very well done. It was very ironic on a number of historic levels when Bill Watts returned to Atlanta to run WCW. Wasn't part of the reason why MidSouth and especially its subsidiary Houston Wrestling hosted by the late great Paul Boesch had such terrific Production values was that the former was part of a devastating televised one two Promotional punch on Sundays on TBS along with "Georgia Championship Wrestling" hosted by the incomparable Mr. Gordon Solie? There did seem to be a frequent and thriving Talent exchange between those two Legendary NWA Territories.🤔🎤🤼‍♀️🤼‍♂️B.W.
