Classic Uncle Charlie with his brothers. Consider yourselves Gaptized.
Great choice to react to.
TULSA AKA Da GAP! #BlackWallStreet1921
There's no grown folks party without some gap band on the playlist!🎸🎶🎊🎺🎉🎷💃
The lead singer Charlie Wilson made a comeback with solo hits. Another good song by gap band oops up side your head.
Uncle Charlie is the Ozzy Osbourne of R & B. A true survivor.
Hahahaha you ain't wrong
Uncle Charlie!!! Love, love, LOVE the Gap Band. This and Party Train are my fav up-tempo songs by them. Ballads get their own separate category...because, man...just awesome.
Back in the day..This was my mom's favorite Gap Band wake-up song at 7 O'Clock in the morning❣ trying to get me and my sister up to clean house. Yeah right! The nerve of her, after I came in late from clubbing😴🤩. She would just bust up over that rooster.. 😄
The Gap band is fantastic! Especially heard with a sound system and some subwoofers ;)
Drop the bomb
Burn rubber
Outstanding! Extended version
Etc.
You've already reviewed some of their great tracks like "Yearning for your Love" and "Outstanding" but also check out "I Don't Believe You Want to Get Up and Dance (Oops upside your head)", "You Dropped the Bomb on Me", "Big Fun", "Zibble".
I wished they would've gotten back together before Robert passed away
The phrase "early in the morning and the early bird gets the worm" is used as a double entendre! Back in the day, my grandfather would say wake up early in the morning to be the first to find work(opportunity). Here, the Gap Band use the old phrase to mean he's getting up early in the morning to be the first to find the next best girl. He thought his old girl would be the one (have his child), she wasn't, so "up early in morning" to find the next best one(opportunity).
This song was actually a response to their hit Burn Rubber on me from the year before. In that song he Charlie came home and his lover had left him. So now he is moving on and gotta get up early in the morning. Cause yeah the early bird, always catches the worm 😉
Man can’t believe, this the first time you heard this jam, now you gotta listen to “burn rubber on me” and “drop the bomb on me”
Check out SOS Band, “take your time (do it right)”. Great vibe like this song
I had a whole roller skating routine to this song. 🤣
For the Gap Band, it would behoove you to listen to the full version of every single song that they recorded. They are at their amazing best on the long jams. In spite of the flashy showmanship that might be distracting, the complete version of this particular song has a darker edge to it, tinged with a melancholy sadness for the loss of his lover. When the sonic guitars interject, holy smokes this was only the halfway point in the full version!
You know they had to work hard on all their videos and songs . The energy is amazing! I’ve loved this song since I was like 6 ( back in the 80’s ) and never saw the video. My mom had it on a record and played it all the time when I was a kid . I love it more now than I did then . I repeat this song over and over cuz it give me energy and makes me dance. 😊
This is some old school funk. My Grandmother used to play their jams all the time when we went to her crib. Another good jam of theirs is "You Dropped The Bomb On Me." Charlie Wilson still performs, I think he's like in his 60's now.
Satin, fringe, drumstcks on fire... and that bass!
I was wondering about people reacting to Gap Band Follow thru to Charlie Wilson’s solo career. He’s still got that incredible voice. MANY HITS
Love them and Charlie Wilson today. As a line dancer we dance to so many of his songs. Check out Burn Rubber . That is my favorite
The Gap Band another great funk band. Their song "Oops Upside Your Head" is a song worth reacting to. Charlie Wilson who's the lead singer had to pretty good solo career; and his song "You Are" and "Charlie Last Name Wilson" are very good songs.
a very funky song remember playing this to a friend who liked and played rock & punk rock said he loved it over the years managed to bring the funk to many people charlie wilson vocals always on point massive hit club scene uk
Gap Band bass is alwaysssss the bomb!!! Love them!!!
You gotta check out "Burn Rubber on Me" by them man. Classic!
Me and the hubby jamming taking him to work. Music bumpin in the car. Miss my guy.
The bass sound is synth bass. You would here similar sound on songs like, ‘She’s A Bad Maama Jam-a’, or ‘Jamaica Funk’. Gap band had a few hits like with this tempo & beat. I think 1st was Burn Rubber on Me, then this one, the one with an entertaining video called, Party Train. Outstanding & Yearning For Your Love were smoother sound.
Party Train by them is a good jam
You got to get "Party Train" on your list to review.
Robert Wilson passed away( the light skinned one) and I know they were beefing for years. Just hope they resolved things
He was beefing with Ronnie, not Robert. They still beefing
JJ, Classic joint! Finally getting into The Gap Band’s funky side. I’m not sure, but my interpretation of the track is a young man perfecting his “Game”?? Peace!
Whatched this video 100 times never notice the drums rising in the background
Three Bruthas from Oklahoma who GROOVE, who woulda thought...and cowboy outfits to boot, total 80s.
Classic Gap Band groove!!! Still makes you wanna get up and dance!!!
Yessir This was a great Jam no doubt!! The Gap Band were a great band!!!
Also YOU DROPPED A BOMB ON
ME
Love the Gap Band...if you went to a gig this would be the standard!!Silver suits burning drumsticks ..a crowd on stage and classic dance moves... quality
Real talent here people.
‘Have to get up early in the morning ... to get one over on me...’ it’s a saying. I think he’s reflecting on not being taken advantage of again by the wrong woman. Me guessing without a full review of the lyrics.
They honored Black Wall Street by naming themselves after some of the streets of Black Wall Street, namely Greenwood, Archer, and Pine..hence GAP Band.
This would be my favorite Gap Band track if it only had a strong hook. LOL!!. My #2 choice is You Dropped a Bomb On Me.
The song is simply about him losing his woman due to his foolishness (cheating, neglecting, etc.) and having to find another one. He said he had to get up early in the morning because the early bird always catches the worm (old saying), meaning, if you get an early start before everyone else, your chances are better at finding the woman, and you get first pick, so you're most likely to get the best one.
"Oh, I never knew I loved you 'til you left me,
Oh, I never knew I cared 'til you were gone,
I was young and foolish, I didn't know what ai was doing,
Didn't know I lost you 'til you were gone.
Oh, I never knew I loved you 'til you were gone.
So, I gotta get up early in the morning to find me another lover.
Now, I got to get up early every morning,
'Cause the early bird always catches the worm.
Now, I gotta get up early every morning,
Gotta make up for the lesson I've learned.
Gotta find me a lover that won't run for cover
Gotta find me a lover that won't burn the rubber.
I was young and foolish. I didn't know what I was doing,
I didn't know what I lost you 'til you were gone.
She had a pretty face. Drove me wild,
I even wanted her to have my child."
I miss these days...
Unc Charlie Ayyyee
Rip Robert
Tulsa Ok Ayyee
We used to say lead singer Charlie Wilson begat Aaron Hall, who begat R. Kelly.
Yes indeed!!
Next you need to do Burn Rubber..Oops upside ya head... Party Train.
JJ I so love your reactions to songs. Dude loved her so much he wanted her to have his child but still he cheated. Love the Gap. Their songs are indeed outstanding. Ha. By the way I’m trying to connect with you. I got so many songs I’d love to hear. Keep up the good work. Your channel is different in a good way.🥰🥰🎶🎶🥴
Good job! on your reactions. How about Burn Rubber - The Gap Band, Claimin' I'm a Criminal - Brand Nubian and King Heroin - James Brown
RIP Ronnie Wilson
Burn Rubber next!!!
yep....one of their best tracks.....and YES....you miss a lot not hearing the full version!!
The drummer for the Gap Band inspired Dave Grohl from Nirvana and carries the same cadence.
Try any of ZAPP they really have you wanting to get out your seat...their from Dayton, Oh but they got dat California funk style.
You really should check out Humpin' by the Gap Band.
Party Train is a great Jamba them
