I believe that. I remember how special he was in 2006. He was said to be washed up already. He proved everyone wrong. The way he dribbled Angola and other teams. Took Portugal to be number 4 that year. Gave the dutch hell. Figo was legit bad ass.
Figo for me is still a mystery, as it is possible that the feint that was his brand was always the same with two variations, but the control he had, made the feint unstoppable.

He did constantly what today the so called great star can't do on a regular basis: drible 2/3 players over and over again and passing to the goal scorer or scoring himself.
This in a time where defenders actually kicked your ass and broke legs. Never had a bad season or a bad game.

@@baguswidapratama ....he was "embroiled" by his MANAGER/AGENT in a situation he could not get out of....but his Initial claims with Barcelona were about MONEY....Real Madrid was going to pay him some 12 times as much of what he was payed in Barcelona and his Manager/Agent was to get a FORTUNE if the transfer was made...we are talking, back then, about 45 MILLION Euros for the Transfer...
True! Also, he was very private person, avoided the press at all costs, specially when he was with is family. The press, at least, here in Portugal, never praised and sometimes, even trashed him, unfortunately...

Hagi was also a great player! I remember in Euro 2000 we were in the same group as Romania, England and Germany. At that time you had an amazing squad and I remember thinking that we'd struggle to go to the play-offs. Turns out that we also had a great team and we beated Romania and England and in the last match we netted 3 goals against Germany. Pitty that we lost in the semi-finals with the supid rule of silver-ball... That team and the one from Euro 2004 was so much better than our 2016 squad. Good times! Greeting from Portugal...
Nuno Fernandes Romania had a decent decade between 1990-2000 but then it went to the bin. probably in 94 we had everything in place to win the world cup but it wasn't meant to be. in 2000 I remember that header from a free kick that gave you victory 1-0. I also remember the match from '99 in the preliminaries that ended 1-1, Hagi and Figo scored for each one of us. Seems like ages ago. Anyway, respect and best of luck to you!
unu alin I’m from Spain but loved 90s Romania and 00s Portugal teams, I agree both generations deserved better. I was hoping Florin Andone would become a megastar in Deportivo and lead Romania again, too bad that never happened. Portugal has a killer team with Figo, Quaresma, Deco, early Ronaldo, Pauleta... I wish that had been the gen to win Euro for Portugal.
Just watched the figo transfer documentary on Netflix. You forget how good a player he was
It will not be mentioned in the 10 best of all time. But for me he is maybe the best winger of all time. His dribbling style was really unique, he could change direction very quickly and he was very beautiful to watch play. The moves were always perfectly executed and even if he wasn't the fastest, it was impossible to take the ball from him without fouling. He is a player that I come to see regularly on video because there are no two like him in the way he dribbles. He was also very intelligent in his passing. People may not realize it, but in the history of the Spanish championship, it is one of the greatest legends of all time. There is the fact that he wore the jersey of Barca and Real, but also because his level was always excellent, he rarely missed a match. Pure class player 🌟
