Thanks for taking me along. The hike looks fun and beautiful and your sketchbook is inspiring. Thanks for the reminders about what's important in a book and to keep on going...
I don’t know if you’ll see this…. But this journal is by far my favorite one I’ve see from you. The layout and style in which you did it was like looking at a story book… which is awesome because it’s your story 😃👏
Love the toned paper. Especially love the first painting, after the intro page, of the ocean and rocks, looks like you just used one color. Haven’t watched any of your videos in a while, no time for art lately - and sometimes I get depressed watching you, as you are basically living my dream life. But I have to say, Sarah, you are getting better all the time, really growing as an artist! You are an inspiration.
Some lovely ways to record your trip. I was just about to go traveling when COVID happened. So now I’m using my time to practice my plein air so I’m ready when we can go again.
Oh my gosh, if you only knew how much I enjoyed this! I collect sheep stuff, and instantly fell in love with your darling sheep! Also loving the white on the toned paper. You are very clever and talented!
also i can imagine pastel being a remarkable medium for you to dab with for inspiration or even just motivating your enthusiasm with a charge of visual energy.
Just bought a Hahnemuhle Sktechbook (grey tone). I think I'll do the same swatchy at the first page and the colors "palette" at the end. Enjoyed the video and your journal is incredible!
Thank you so much Sarah for this beautiful gift for Christmas, this wonderful video :-) Wishing you all the best for Christmas and for the new year :-)
that is a n incredible thing.. flows like lord of rings story book... lol that was best i could do for explaination. greatly interested in the hatching - really pops from the page.... love it!
Lovely sketches. I wish I documented my trips better. The Scottish countryside is so beautiful but my goodness is the weather unpredictable. We went in September and had some crazy wind, rain and periods of sun. This was great inspiration 😊. Thanks for sharing!
I've had my eyes on that tones sketchbook for a while. Very nice to see how you worked with it. I think all the sketches turned out great! My husband and I went to Scotland last year and spent 2 days in Skye. He recognized the Fairy Pools from your sketch immediately. Seeing your sketches and video clips takes me back as well!
I know this is an older video, but I am a recent subscriber and I love your videos! This video might be a favourite so far! I love all of them to be honest and just wanted to let you know :)
Your videos are so inspiring. 😊💖I have tons of empty sketchbooks and I simply do not dare to start them because I fear I will ruin them with a bad drawing. I keep using cheap - not watercolor - sketchbooks only to tell myself: this is not a waste and once I get better I will get into the real watercolor sketchbook. 🙄
I like this more illustrative style it's funny and with this music I have feeling that I have to go there just one more time. I visited Skye 3 times but never had opportunity to see Fairy pools. Your sketchbook is fantastic! Marry Christmas Sarah ❣️ and another good or better year with your art business 😉
Wow, I didn't know there was toned watercolour paper. I got toned and regular paper for drawing and black and white paper for watercolours, but I didn't know that one could get these brownish, natural colours for watercoloring, too. I love how the whites pop on these and that the others get a bit of a sepia shift 🥰 BTW, gorgeous paintings 😘 I love the little illustrative ones, too. Those sheep look sooooo cute 😊 Wish you a Merry Christmas and a hopefully not so weird 2021 😁 Stay safe!
@@SarahBurnsStudio Sarah I can’t find a toned sketchbook like that. Can you share where you got it? I saw one on Amazon but it was only 200gsm 90lb and someone said that even though it was supposed to be suitable for watercolor, it really wasn’t.
@@kanamichelle7404 its the Hahnemuhle one made for watercolor. They come in beige and grey. Not sure about US retailers but over here they sell them everywhere!
Hi, Sarah, a wonderful NYC artist @sdionbakerdesign has an awesome IG feed and many IG Lives you might enjoy watching. She's written 3 books about *Draw Your Day* which very much is what you did in this video. I was interested in this one because I'd like to see more watercolor on toned paper, and don't know which to invest in - tan or gray. While I have a few of the supplies used here, I don't have enough, and am not able to invest in enough right now. Watercolors, those I have! My biggest block to focusing on painting? Reading! I read a LOT, like, literally all night. Mysteries. But, I've slowly been figuring out and setting up a more comfortable painting area, and hope to look more seriously at my various watercolor books (esp journal - type books by Cathy Johnson, Jill Bays, etc). Do you know of Alphonso Dunn? He's on IG, but more importantly, tons of YT videos. Drawing and hatching expert.
I too have noticed there aren't as many videos sharing watercolor on toned paper. I think it's because it doesn't always pop off the page. Yes I've heard of all those artists you mention!
Art that you will always come back to thirty years from now. Trust me. 👍🙏🏻🖌
I’m 73 & started watercolor 2 yrs ago. Taught myself from RUclips. Your work inspires me so much.
That is wonderful to hear 😄
Good on you, its the best thing. You tube is a great tool for learning I am sure you will inspire others in your turn. Share the love.

LOVE the full-spread hiking scene!

Looks awesome, what a great way to revisit your memories in the future!
Love those sheep and the way the water turned out!

Your journal is amazing. -
Thank you!
I love it!!!!!
I haven’t tried a toned paper sketchbook yet, but seeing yours makes me think that it would be very suitable for a trip to
Arizona!
Ohhh yes it would be fabulous for desert scenes!! Would love to see that if you ever do it 😍
Awesome art/awesome video. Thank you Sarah for sharing your talents with us.
Thank you so much!

ive been a big advocate of toned paper, and it is, as. you sensed a marvelling insipation straight to the heart and mind. happy you feel the same!
also i can imagine pastel being a remarkable medium for you to dab with for inspiration or even just motivating your enthusiasm with a charge of visual energy.
Pastel would be GORGEOUS on this sketchbook!

What a lovely book you've made!
Thank you! Cheers!
I would like to see a watercolor swatch on toned paper and see the comparison with regular White paper, Just to see how that paper holds the colors...
The watercolors are definitely "tinted" by the paper and cannot be super bright, unless they are a little more opaque
I know this is an older video, but I am a recent subscriber and I love your videos!
