This is a great explanation! One of the advantages of tying the first half knot with another turn is that the tension in the laces is held, so it's much easier to form the loops without having to hold tension yourself. Perfect for kids. Thanks!
This should be the first one to be recommended. . .This was the best tutorial i came so far !! RUclips Algorithms are promoting American things over other countries. . This is pure Racism.
Actually you assume that it doesn't matter how you overlap your laces. But it does matter. Your original way of tying one half knot and one bow produces a double-slip square knot (AKA reef knot, as you mentioned), which on it's own should not come loose--in fact it gets tighter with time and wear. Note how the bow is perfectly horizontal. Where people have problems is in the first half knot--they reverse which lace goes over which, then tie the bow as you do, which produces a granny--a weak and ineffective knot. The bow will be on an angle. This is what comes untied. If you tie a granny, it doesn't matter how many loops or overlaps you do, it will come untied. It certainly doesn't hurt to reinforce a square knot, but it's not really necessary.
Oh’ my god. Thank you for this comment. I have recently jumped head first into knot tying and a lot of principles and tradition I now see in common knots. I had not dwelled on the common bow yet until this comment. As you said. I simply pulled the slips through to see what I have and you showed me something I never realized. And part two of this schooling is that my entire life I have been doing the half knot wrong, even though my old school wording as what to do was correct “Right over left” as I studied what I do, I do left over right. Just think how many times my shoe laces came undone due to this little blunder. 🤷🏻♂️
@@13Voodoobilly69 Don't feel bad. I spent my first 64 years tying the shoelace bow wrong. And I was a Boy Scout and knew knots! But I had never made the connection with tying shoelaces. I got fed up with them coming untied and figured I'd consult my source for everything--YT. Couldn't believe I was so stupid. Irony is that I have since re-laced my shoes with paracord and cord locks. Even easier and faster.
Thanks for making the video. I wish I came across this video two pair of shoes back. It seems like the shoe companies are now using cheap shoe laces. Using your knot technique, not once my lace came undone.
Thanks! I work with children and they ALWAYS need their shoes tied and they don't know how to; I tie a lot of shoes, this will helped. Thumbs upped and subbed.
Personally I use your final method but not adding the extra turn in the first half. In Ashley's Book of Knots this one is #1219 or the Double Slip knot. The 3 full turns you show cause a large bunching of the bind. I also avoid the first improvement for the same reason. By adding the extra turn in the first part you make space you then have to match with the top half. If the gap over the tongue on your shoes is narrow you don't have room for this. I've never had this come undone without something pulling directly on the tail so lace length is worth a moment of consideration.
Last knot looks similar to a Berluti knot which is what I use on boots (the knot will not come undone) and Converse; the knot sits low and flat and is comfortable.
Very helpful and thorough, thank you! One thing that you did intuitively without mentioning it is that in the first part of the knot you crossed right over left, and in the second part you crossed left over right. That makes the shoelaces go in the correct direction.
dude thank you u @@ i finnally can breath after 2 hours of searching :: your way is awsome !! and the last part is the best and easiest part to learn !
The last one looks really useful. I've been practicing, but noticed that it can still come undone by pulling on the bows, not just the ends. Is there a not that would prevent that too? (If the bow gets caught on something).
I just fell face flat onto the pavement and scratched my phone pretty badly while on a run because of my dumb laces coming undone. Hopefully this will prevent this from happening in the future
The last one is very similar to hikers knot except for no double half hitch on the first round what you do is you start like normal one half hitch and then pass the loop through twice that’s very sufficient, it’s called a hikers knot. Be safe, Be good, Be kind, Trust GOD.
Adding the extra turn to the first half or overhand knot isn't going to make any difference except in the initial tightening. Just double wrap the second half to lock it in place. But cool video.

LOVE the shoe lace in two colours!!! The contrast makes it visible.

So is this guy doing it the way you recommend?

😊😊
Isn't the first knot you showed a granny knot? And looping twice a reef knot? Reef know is always preferred. Thank you for an excellent video
Excellent presentation of secure shoe knots, which are very much confusing. No further inconveniences during outdoor activities! Thanks.
Thanks you so much I been trying this for 13 year and I am so happy!
Your efforts needs a like for using two colours and an easy explanation 😊😊
Sir, you sound so classy. Greetings from Russia.

This works like ⭐MAGIC⭐ Its doesn't come undone so often meaning i wont have to worry about it for the ENTIRE day!
Mate your a legend this is the only video that worked for me and i learnt it first try
Same
Right over left then left over right, to make the reef knot for secure shoe laces.
Great presentation.
Thank you
The best vid I've seen for my laces problem
This is the only family friendly video someone would watch on an incognito tab
Hey! I think this will really work for my hiking shoes, which have big round slippery laces. Thanks.
Thanks! I work with children and they ALWAYS need their shoes tied and they don't know how to; I tie a lot of shoes, this will helped. Thumbs upped and subbed.
outstanding... I replaced my laces with 1/8 in braided line... It doesn't always want to stay tied... These techniques will help me... Thanks

Thank you for the best shoe lace video!!!
I like your way of tying shoes . It works . Thanks
I have laces that are from a more slippery material and they tend to come undone way too often. So I'll give this a try. 👍
thid dude solved the nonending shoelace problems, great

Thanks Mama Bear. You make a good point. Good Video.
The last one is the best. I use it for years daily.
How did you tie your shoe like that
Extremely helpful! Thanks!

Please help with the loop swoop and pull
I will be using your preferred knot on all of my shoes from now on. It looks so nice! Ty!!

You could tie a stopper knot on the ends of the laces. That way the loops would stop before completely pulling free if caught on something.
Check out Kirby Allison's burlutti knot
It wooorked!!!it changed my life
Going to give this a try. I've had my shoes come untied right in the middle of my job and no chance to get them fastened again.
Wow
OOF😀😁
If the laces are too long, what can be done?
Holy hell this is so helpful man! The bunny ears are actually trash compared to this style of shoe tying (it's trash in general)
Thanks for this!
thank you for teaching me how to tie my laceas, I am no longer crying.
Oh my gosh thank you 😊
For athletic and other casual shoes, the Lace Keeper is the way to go.
I will try the last one and hope it works, tying shoe laces is almost like rocket science to me as an adult,...LoL...
Thank u for the help😄
Excellent! I tried and it worked well.Thank you
