This episode and the previous one is so heart touching and emotional. Couldn't still digest it. Hats off to BC sir for depicting this so naturally but the trauma which goes Rukku goes through without even expressing a word.

Watching this episode i thought about my grandfather who in early 1940s had to face a similar situation as Ganapadigal in deciding the fate of my Aunt (his eldest daughter). My Aunt was married off immediately after her 9th Standard (that time child marriage was prevalent) and with in an year her husband passed away. My grandfather probably influenced by the independence struggle and other reforms happening at that time boldly took the decision of providing further education to my aunty. She not only completed her 10th she went on to become a successful government doctor in Malabar (North Kerala) region. My grandfather left the choice of remarrying to her , but she dedicated her life totally to the medical service.
This episode- intense competition between Poovilangu Mohan sir, BGM music director and not to forget the dialogue Writer and director in BC sir....to show who is going to be the show stealer! Mohan sir dialogues at 7.50 and 15.50 were simply superb... Rukku's "than vinai thannai sudum"was the icing on the cake ❤️🙏🏻 Brahmins were/are being criticised for their "backward thinking"- this series and this episode esp brings to light the social reforming mindset and non-chauvinistic, empathising role of men on women, unlike what is projected in movies usually! Wah!

What an episode & what kind of an acting each of them have done. Hats off to all the artists & Director Sir. Avayam & seshu outstanding in their roles. I am reminded of my father telling that when my grandfather died in 1948 it was my grandmother's mother who put her foot down & said that these rituals will not been done to my grandmother. Not only this she stood like a pillar to educate all the grandchildren who were so young at that point of time as she believed that change is inevitable. What I had so far heard today witnessed from Ganapadigal's reaction & emotion.

Definitely a welcome change compared to the present day serials where there is no end to the evils and wrongdoings, with no punishment whatsoever for the wrongs. Karma atleast sends a correct message to viewers….ie, you pay for your wrongs or rather mistakes!
Excellent acting by All led by Poovilangu Mohan. Biggest credit goes to BC, the director. Dialogues are very special and BC's talent shines through every episode.
Excellence episode !! Very forward thinking induced in ganapadigal character. Very happy to see this!! But the sad thing is, even till date in many people's mind segregation towards sumangali and widow is there. Which is not in the hand of any woman...nobody decides their own fate.... even today being a sumangali is treated as if it's a boon and grade 1 level of living and incase a woman becomes widow it is considered like some paavam or sin. We should get a society where all woman are treated equally!!!
The impact of Dilemma about Rituals was deep . Could not sleep. Felt as if it happened in our own Agraharam. Ghanapadigal’s forward thinking and the manner in which he displayed his emotions were Superb.

mindblowing acting by Ganapadigal, avayam and Seshu. The last one liner of than vinai thannai sudum by rukku says it all.. Nice to know that progressive thinkers like Ganapadigal existed in those times... surely his character must have been an influence of some great Brahmin of those times.
Brilliant dialogs and acting. Congratulations to the team led by Sri Bombay Chanakya. Even young widows still in their teens being forced to live a life of service to others without a chance to marry again while men were permitted to have 2 or even 3 wives is certainly a result of male dominance. After all, Manu, the author of the Dharma shastra was a man, not a woman. A comment on the practice of sati. Dakshayani carried out sati her not because she became a widow, but because her husband was insulted by her own father (Daksha) and she did not want to be his daughter anymore. So she gave up her body through her yogic powers. The more recent sati practice most likely originated in the 8th century AD or later. It was a response by wives of princes and kings killed by invaders into India because the women did not want to be captured by the enemies, a fate they considered worse than death. Even in the Adi Kavyam Valmiki Ramayanam, Kausalya is shown alive long after Dasaratha's death. The Sati practice is not inherently a part of Sanatana Dharma.
It is a very sensitive subject. Yes, the tradition was promulgated by hardcore people (including older women in the family circle) but certainly was a cruel punishment on the widows. As the ganapAdigaL mentioned changing times are the only remedy to cure such ills in the society. It has been happening for several decades now.
Sati Practice was voluntary choice for the Widow woman and never thrust upon her by any Sasthra Rule. In Mahabharata when King Pandu died his first wife Kunti chose to continue to live while his second wife Sumitra chose to perform Sati. Therefore Sati was left to the Widow's choice and never thrust upon her by any Sasthra.
My mind went back to 1957, when my Patti was subjected to head tonsure after Thatha’s death. Her screams that night echoed in my ears yesterday though I was hardly seven. After 60s such barbarian rituals were unheard of. Women’s Emancipation is more Mental fortitude. But these were physical oppression to suppress and depress . There was no justification for such crude customs. Having said that Rukku Patty’s dynamism in the latter half Proves ‘ Custom and tradition cannot deter the inner strength and stamina. So perceptions differ- very thought provoking twists and turns. Well Done Bombay Chanakya and Team. .Contains lot of ‘ Chanakya Neethi’ .
My body is shaken when I feel the trauma those girls went through while in the widowhood ceremony and many years of suffering. I am saying this despite the fact that I am for maintaining Saatvikata in dresses when modesty is getting thrown to the winds by girls these days. No need to go to both extremes, one extreme of cruelty to widows and then another extreme we see with scantily clad/fashion dressed girls these days. Simple life and high thinking with daily Nama Japa and prayers is the way to realize God and not these cruel rituals.

Brilliant dialogs and acting. Congratulations to the team led by Sri Bombay Chanakya. Even young widows still in their teens being forced to live a life of service to others without a chance to marry again while men were permitted to have 2 or even 3 wives is certainly a result of male dominance. After all, Manu, the author of the Dharma shastra was a man, not a woman. A comment on the practice of sati. Dakshayani carried out sati her not because she became a widow, but because her husband was insulted by her own father (Daksha) and she did not want to be his daughter anymore. So she gave up her body through her yogic powers. The more recent sati practice most likely originated in the 8th century AD or later. It was a response by wives of princes and kings killed by invaders into India because the women did not want to be captured by the enemies, a fate they considered worse than death. Even in the Adi Kavyam Valmiki Ramayanam, Kausalya is shown alive long after Dasaratha's death. The Sati practice is not inherently a part of Sanatana Dharma.

It is a very sensitive subject. Yes, the tradition was promulgated by hardcore people (including older women in the family circle) but certainly was a cruel punishment on the widows. As the ganapAdigaL mentioned changing times are the only remedy to cure such ills in the society. It has been happening for several decades now.
Sati Practice was voluntary choice for the Widow woman and never thrust upon her by any Sasthra Rule. In Mahabharata when King Pandu died his first wife Kunti chose to continue to live while his second wife Sumitra chose to perform Sati. Therefore Sati was left to the Widow's choice and never thrust upon her by any Sasthra.

My mind went back to 1957, when my Patti was subjected to head tonsure after Thatha’s death. Her screams that night echoed in my ears yesterday though I was hardly seven. After 60s such barbarian rituals were unheard of. Women’s Emancipation is more Mental fortitude. But these were physical oppression to suppress and depress . There was no justification for such crude customs. Having said that Rukku Patty’s dynamism in the latter half Proves ‘ Custom and tradition cannot deter the inner strength and stamina. So perceptions differ- very thought provoking twists and turns. Well Done Bombay Chanakya and Team. .Contains lot of ‘ Chanakya Neethi’ .
My body is shaken when I feel the trauma those girls went through while in the widowhood ceremony and many years of suffering. I am saying this despite the fact that I am for maintaining Saatvikata in dresses when modesty is getting thrown to the winds by girls these days. No need to go to both extremes, one extreme of cruelty to widows and then another extreme we see with scantily clad/fashion dressed girls these days. Simple life and high thinking with daily Nama Japa and prayers is the way to realize God and not these cruel rituals.
@@ramask31 TRUE. Ultra modern need not be boyish or scant attire. Female should have inner discipline and outer modesty . I suppose knowledge and wide exposure has taken a toll on Feminine Apparel.
progressive practical thinking was there even in ganapadigal times,b.cos of society reaction,gossip and abuses,we were following blindly the old customs,which are horrible,particularly, the way women are treated,good,with generations,the perceptions are changing,but traditions n customs shud be safeguarded,which will not affect one's,personal lives,brings discipline and human values.
