Its time to talk Auction Houses - who have an increasingly dominant role in the art market. There are three key players in fine art. Phillips, Sotheby’s and Christies. Bonham's sometimes has work of note, but not so, so often.
The auction is a time for collectors to make bank on the investments they have made. And here’s the thing it is not an even playing field - often when big names make it to auction their galleries are right behind them propping up the bids.
But the MOST important thing about auctions is, it’s the time the artworld makes it into mainstream news.
