Thanks Ollie that was really helpful, at the same time as my ADHD diagnosis I lost my job and my routine has been completely out of whack. I’ve been struggling with insomnia with Elvanse and your video has reinforced how hard it is to be trying these medications without any coaching or structure to your day
I just started today, I was getting the sense that I needed some type of guide to help create a positive effect on this treatment. Your advice was exactly what I was searching for. Thank you for creating information needed for those like me who want to start off on the right foot!
Because sound plays such a huge factor in me getting off to sleep, earplugs have been great to combat the sensitivity to noise I experience as my medication wears off.
Thank you! I'm going to try taking them an hour before I have to get up. I take Vyvanse which is working for me, but the sleep factor is a no-go. I've had insomnia for years and was recently diagnosed with ADHD.
good vid. I am an insomniac anyway without the meds, finding it hard to sleep before midnight for years. I recommend 'calm' magenisum citrate and perhaps some raw goat/cows milk. I have found these very calming for my nervous system. I have also bought some CBD bud using a vape. I'm not sure if that works yet! Still early days for elvanse for me but finding focus has improved but possibly not attention wise on the 'boring' tasks. I've started to realise that it's not a magic pill and you do need planners etc in place to execute life properly, even for people without ADHD there must be a system.
Thanks for this. I took Vyvanse for five weeks and I loved the impact it had on my ADHD, but I couldn't sleep more than a couple of hours a night. I switched over to Straterra (non-stimulant), which is better for sleep, but now I feel like an emotionless zombie. I want to try Vyvanse again, because it would be perfect for me if I can get my sleep under control.
For me the non stimulant sucked I felt like a zombie too but vyvance has had such a huge effect on the achedemuc side of me but anxiety is through the roof and also the insomnia only lasted like half a week
I seem to be the only person I can find used to take ADHD medication and now can't but when I used to take ADHD medication I used to actually be able to fall asleep at night now that I don't take medication I actually have more sleep every night I wake up in the middle of the night and I can't go to sleep at the same time every night like I like without taking melatonin
I'm just starting on a very low dose (20mg) of elvanse now. I haven't found it negatively affecting my sleep, if anything it's better, but my ADHD really makes it hard for me to sleep. I'm hopefully going to titrate up a bit at some point because I think the meds run out a bit early. I'm interested to see how my sleep is impacted.
40mg gave me terrible mood swings and increased vital measurements. I seem to have stabilised now and my sleep is actually much better than it has ever been, surprisingly.
You explain very well. Could you please make a video about insomnia related to adhd medication and if you take any SLEEPING PILL and combinations and if yes in this case, which medication did you take and what was your experience and timing you take it. ❤Many thanks
For some reason I sleep much better now I’m on Elvanse. I fall asleep immediately and rarely wake up during the night - certainly one of the more positive side effects for me. Not sure if it is due to me having Central Sleep Apnoea but I’m not complaining! Oh and I stuck to 40mg and things have improved a lot with my vitals. Not going to attempt 50mg anytime soon 🙂
I’ve learned that I am a night owl. I do my best creative work after my son goes to bed. If I had to pick a work schedule outside of the home I would pick 11-7 because I cannot wake up before 8 without feeling like I might be dying haha. I also don’t want to work during my creative hours.
I wish I knew what to do I was just diagnosed with adhd at 35 lol Told I had it as kid but never really diagnosed I’ve had insomnia racing thoughts anxiety since 17 When I lay down my mind just races and races Thinking future past present Anxiety over everything And then it takes hours to sleep And I wake up every 2-3 hours and racing thoughts again I’ve tried sleep meds nothing Benzos helped but just got off them 2 years ago and it was hell Is this adhd ?
Hi! As you watch more and more videos about ADHD you will learn that, as crazy as it sounds, almost everything about you is due to adhd. There's lots of great people here making these videos, and lots of them are professionals with adhd themselves. The best ways I've found to help get the sleep we SO need is by taking 300mg of magnesium Glycinate a couple of hours before bed. Helps with anxiety, so you can take it any other time as well (Has to be Glycinate. It's kinda expensive. I get mine at vitacost) I also put my screens on eye comfort/protector settings because the blue light devices give off are bad for sleep time. I listen to short stories on earbuds while falling asleep in my bed too. I get ones that are kinda dull so they don't hold my attention too much. But they usually have me asleep quickly. I went as far as to turn my lights off and only put on my small lamps with red bulbs in them 3 hours before bed. Sounds extreme, but I can feel my nervous system calming when I switch over to red light. When anxiety and insomnia is wrecking your life, you'll try almost anything. So many of our problems are due to dopamine levels, and there's plenty of natural ways to get your brain to make more dopamine. I've learned how to use "cozy video games" to make dopamine. Also, you can get dopamine bursts by hugging someone, having sex, eating sugar or caffeine, listening to music, singing, dancing, exercising, watching TV or reading books that you really get into, (even audio books) drawing, coloring, painting, doing puzzles, meditating, and laughter is huge! So a fun conversation with a friend is good for you as well as watching silly videos on socials. I went way overboard with this comment, I know. 😅 Hopefully, something I said can help you a little bit.
Hi Ollie, thanks for your videos. Been really helpful. Have you found any negative effects from exercise whilst being on Elvanse, like racing heart, palpitations, overheating etc?
Hi Richard! I can’t say I have, no. I’m possibly less efficient when exercising near my max heart rate - I feel like I get tired sooner (possibly?). But overall, I wouldn’t say it’s had a significant affect on my exercise performance.
@@ollieedward643 I’m actually on day two and that symptom isn’t present today! I shouldn’t have worried like I did, but boy did your content as well as a few other youtubers helped me calm down by offering insight and advice! Best decision was opening up this app for sure!
Little over a month in and my problem isn't falling asleep. I crash and can then sleep about normal. My problem is staying asleep! Some times my body will wake me up after only 5/6 hours for no good reason and it takes a bit to fall back asleep. Wondering if it's my body wanting me to get up and take more meds again. Like mini withdrawal? Really stinks though I use to get 7 1/2 -8 1/2 hours of sleep without meds. Now I fall asleep easier but can't stay asleep as long. Anyone have any advice besides sleeping meds?
Setting my alarm 1 hour earlier than usual tomorrow. Cheers
I’ve read that vitamin-C acts like an off switch for absorption of ADHD stimulant medications. Going to try it today a couple hours before bed.
did it work?

Um... doesn't magnesium citrate make you poop?!

I started using sleep hypnosis to get to sleep! So glad to know I'm not alone in this! Thank you so much for sharing your journey!

That’s really good news Craig! Pleased to hear 👍
That's awesome! I fall asleep much easier on Vyvanse also but I just can't stay asleep for some reason.
@@ralfwashington1502 same here. I just get sleepy before bed on elvanse and I'm able to fall asleep but then I wake up later. Writing this at 3 am...
Sleep is the worst part for me. I go to sleep really easily, deep sleep. Then wake up around 4-5am

I’ve had insomnia racing thoughts anxiety since 17
