BJD Wig Dyeing Experiment

  • Well... This is a record of me dying a secondhand BJD wig with acrylic paints.
    I think it turned out really well and I am super happy with the results.
    Supplies:
    ~ secondhand (affordable) wig
    ~ Acrylic paint, that has been watered down
    ~ toothbrush
    ~ comb
    ~ water
    It's been nearly a month since I put the wig on my white skinned BJD and I have not seen any dye come off on the doll. =)
    ** Edit **
    I get a lot of questions about this method. I'm not an expert and I've only done this a couple times with mixed results. I will try to upload a FAQ video to answer some of your questions but here's some tips:
    ~ This method uses watered down acrylic paint. A tiny dab goes a LOOOONG way, so use sparingly and water down.
    ~ I find that wet hair works best, as the paint is watered down and they dry together. When I tried this on dry MLP hair it ended up feeling brittle and a bit clumpy, the wet BJD wig dried very soft and natural.
    ~ Avoid using hot water, as it warms the acrylic and could make it run. Run COLD water over the wig to set the acrylic and let it dry completely before washing.
    ~ It also helps to comb the acrylic through the wig while it's drying, you can do this a couple times to help pull the paint through the layers of hair.
    That's it for now, but I'll try to add a video with more answers. Thanks for watching and GOOD LUCK!!

    Hey I just wanted to thank you for uploading this video. Using this method I 'dyed' an old blonde bjd wig of mine for an incoming doll to brown. It wound up taking me two go overs, but after allowing both to dry fully and making sure to brush the color in several times while it was drying, it looks very natural. My my case, probably due to the double coating, the wig feels a little stiff, but brushes well and had very little color bleeding when I dunked in cold water!

      Easkyla Jaganshi Awesome. So glad this helped you and you were able to get decent results. I do think the double layering probably made the hair thicker with the paint which could have caused it to be a bit stiff. Still this is great news. Thanks for watching.

    Acrylic ink is the best method. I've tried fabric dye and it comes out good you just have to allow it to dry for a few days before you use it.

    I tried to dye a bjd wig with marker ink but it don't fix, keeps staining everything x.x so now I'm thinking about taking off all(or what I can) the ink and re-painting with acrilic, what I didn't knew that could be used before and now I see that it works good :D

    hi i was wondering if i could use this same technique with actual pink hair dye?
    also did this technique stain the doll or its clothing? also does it last long or fade out during time? or when you style it?

    Can i turn a black/dark coloured wig into pute white colour using this method?

    • @metacynth
      @metacynth  10 лет назад

      Unfortunately lightening wigs with acrylic paint doesn't really work as well, especially when you dilute the paint with water. I tried doing something like that in this video BJD Wig Dye 2.0: Dark Hair hope that helps.

  • @LittleXmissXgrim
    @LittleXmissXgrim 11 лет назад

    Do you think you could do this for an entire BJD wig? The whole wig I mean, not just the tips.

    Does this method work on my little pony toys?

    • @metacynth
      @metacynth  9 лет назад

      Yoshimon7 Slayer yes. That's actually where I first tried this method. I used it back when I used to customize MLP toys. As long as you brush the paint through the hair really well and let it dry completely it should work great, and last a long time.

    Hello there, have you heard about "hairator" (google it)? On their website you can watch a good free video demonstrating a painless body hair removal solution that requires zero waxing or even shaving. Actually, even medical professionals endorse it. It made it easier for Emma to get enduring touchable skin. It may help you out also.
