Ive been looking to make my own router table because my table also doesn't have a lift. And like you I gave yo looking because of the price but this is bloody genius!! Thanks mate!!
This is just about the most useful lift I have seen, I bought one straight after your video Steve, and it is so well made, I use it for supporting lengths of timber while using the mortiser, and on my mitre saw, a wonderful piece of equipment! Many thanks for the heads up ! Chris B.
That’s great Chris, I never thought of using it as just a support for other tools so single focussed on something for the router table 😉 Many thanks for the ideas 👍🏻
Thanks Bear Wood, got to admit I had my doubts bout the lift but to be honest it’s saved me a bundle. Thanks for taking the time to comment and big thanks for the sub 👍🏻
I used a scissor jack designed for cars. I made a wooden (of course) handle so it didn't require anything additional to raise it. However, I looked up your solution because those tiny tables keep coming up on eBay, and it's definitely more compact and portable.
It worked really well for such an inexpensive solution, however I succumbed to purchased a full on router lift and motor since! The original table. Router and lift does live on as I gave it to a friend who is now using it in his workshop
A really elegant solution, I have a cheap and nasty Rutlands router table and although it does the job if you can spend ages setting it up, it is so much trouble for one small job I rarely bother, this loos like a cheap and easy way of doing it. Stay safe! Chris B.
I will modify an old scissor jack. Thanks for the idea.

Hello my new friend. I found his channel by chance from a friend's videos. I saw that we had something in common. You are doing great work. I especially watched the tractor videos. You have very good works. I also liked this router removal idea. Because I had to make a router desk soon too. Thank you for sharing. I'm happy to be on your channel. Notifications will always remain open for you. See you all the time. I want to see you on my channel too. I wish you a healthy and happy weekend. See you. Big greetings, Best regards...
Got to admit the router table is my least favourite tool, theres just something about an exposed cutter going a 20,000 rpm - scary! I considered building my own then saw this scissor lift for peanuts and it works good enough fo me and prob saved me 100's if not 1000's. Cheers Steve
Hi Steve, That is brilliant. Where on ebay did you find it? The main reason I don't use a router is fine adjustment is so difficult without a lift and as you said they are sooooooo expensive. Take care Steve. Cheers, Huw PS Found one and just bought it. You deserve a Nobel Prize for money saving for this video. LOL
Definitely works a treat Huw, forgot to add that they have non slip pads underneath so quite stable. Cheers Steve ps forgot to add a thanks for the pen mechanisms so BIG THANKS HUW 👍🏻
Hi.. Hoping you have used the lift a few times since my question. Does the height wander at all whilst the router is running ? I have thoughts of the lift sinking with the vibration. Have you found this to be the case at all ? Regards, John
I never had an issue, however dependant on the type of router and how long you run it for there maybe, though if a concern then very easy to put some airflow holes through the base. I’ve moved on to a more trade based table & lift now though I never had an issue with the affordable lift ever and neither does the new home for the table Cheers Steve
Hi Bob, sizes are :- Footprint 100mm x 100mm (4”x4”) with the rise & fall knob out a further 38mm (1 1/2”) When at lowest position 45mm (1 3/4”) When at highest position 153mm (6”) There’s four foam pads as feet about 2mm (5/64”) thick they do compress though giving an anti slip feature Hope this helps Cheers Steve
Check out John Heisz's channel (i build it) and website (ibuildit dot ca). He has plans for a router lift that I have heard are very good. Of course, being that he's a fellow Canadian, very trustworthy as well.
Very good idea, BUT, I bought one of these from amxxon and it fell to bits after one use, the top bent, the side angle fell off and the thread went in the threaded bar for the lift, also the knob for lifting is on a left hand thread so when you struggle to lift (and you will) the knob comes untightened, cheap chinese rubbish in my opinion

Simple, effective and doesn’t break the bank 😉 thanks for taking the time to post a comment. Cheers 👍🏻

I purchased one of these for my router table. It works very well and is way cheaper than the fancy lifts that costs hundreds of dollars.
I've seen these on Amazon and always wondered if they'd work for a router lift. Now I know! Thanks for the video!
Works a treat 👍🏻
Great idea!! Just went to Ebay and bought the lift!! Just subscribed and signed up for notification. You really solved my problem!!! Thanks

Thankyou
but routers usually have cooling holes on the top, dont know if its wise to cover them up with the lift plate
I tend to remove the stand once the height is set, though never had problem if left in position
What’s the lift called?
They’re called a lift table or lab stand - Amazon purchase
thanks! Ordered one@@Phenrica
Yep, that'll work, Steve. I built my own out of wood and a piece of all-thread.

You can buy these all day long on Amazon for $16
Where did you get that little lift, for your router. Just looking for a place to purchase that.
I got this off eBay, I think it was called 45-145mm aluminium lab lift
Hi.. Hoping you have used the lift a few times since my question. Does the height wander at all whilst the router is running ? I have thoughts of the lift sinking with the vibration. Have you found this to be the case at all ?
Regards, John
Hi John, when I used this I always locked the router in position using its lock and never had a height issue at all
Wouldn’t cost a fortune to add a reversible electric motor to that lift either.....not that I’m a lazy bugger of course 😂
Does this block airflow to the router motor?

Thanks for the video. It´s working fine until now?
What’s gone wrong? Mine still working fine
@@Phenrica Thanks. Im asking because rhis vídeo is almost 1 year old and Im considering taking one for me. Thanks.
What size is the scissor lift?
Hi Bob, sizes are :-
Footprint 100mm x 100mm (4”x4”) with the rise & fall knob out a further 38mm (1 1/2”)
When at lowest position 45mm (1 3/4”)

Where do find lift to buy?
Hi, it was an eBay purchase titled 45mm to 145mm aluminium lift - hope this helps it was about 2years ago I got it

Brilliant Steve! Beautiful Cherry Pen To Your Daughter!
Thanks Steve, Yep she made up with her pen 😉

I guess it’s the luck of the draw when you go for these inexpensive items, mine still going strong working well 😉
