It's beautiful that technology has gotten to the point, wherein we just don't have to fight the gear anymore. Of course, we can do/get better but, these inexpensive startup tools allow for people to make their musical statement, if not sonic, and work towards generating revenue, eventually. I'm from the era of having to wait a long time before being able to afford recording equipment, beyond a 4-track. Thank you for this!
Very well said! The quality marker has moved in a direction that is more proportionate with accessibility. I started on a tascam 4-track unit, then mastertacks on an old Mac, and then logic before Apple bought it. Things have drastically become more attainable!
I totally appreciate the support!!! I was definitely surprised by this mic and its performance. I wasn’t in the market for it either but when it was sent over and I got it up on a boom stand and in a chain…. I was shocked
Great video and lovely singing - you have the greatest voice! After listening to a few videos reviewing the GTZ87 I find them all sounding like they are de-essed in a slightly unnatural way that I don't think any Neumann would ever be like, otherwise it sounds great!
Certainly appreciate the kind words and checking out the video. I do think the they tried to compensate for the stereotypical overhyped top end with cheaper condenser microphones. I feel like it’s easier to add the idea than to subtract it, but it’s all based on preferences. Thank you for the interaction!
I appreciate this comment. I think too often it’s easy to incorrectly correlate cheap to poor quality. I feel like personally, with my musicality and understanding of recording/engineering, I can make this mic work. I don’t think it comes close to a u87 but I wouldn’t buy it for that reason… Thank you for checking out the video and interacting with me
That weight tank compressor sounds like something I have to invest in. I don’t own a hardware vari-mu compressor. That 1 sounds heavy and deep and thickens up the sound
This Channel keeps getting better - good relevant and interesting choices of microphones .Your solo song was so good and inspiring - And you personal reminder that is alle because of the music is spot on, dont get lost in gear
Can’t say how much I appreciate this comment. Growth is always the goal! I hope the channel is having an impact on the community. Intimidating factors cripple creators. The tools are just a vehicle to the end goal. This microphone demonstrates how you can get there at any price point. Thank you again for the support, interaction and kind words. There’s more to come!
This mic is definitely useable. It helps when the person using it is very talented and can make any mic sound great haha. I just really wish more companies would try to design new classic mics instead of attempting to clone current products in order to generate sales. That's just my take on it. Still a solid product that anyone can get great results with. Your coffee mug melts my heart btw! Love it!!
Totally agree bro. Leave it be names and looks alone and come up with something original. That’ll have merit to stand on its own. But the piggy back marketing is annoying a lot of the time. Nevertheless, this era of recording is affording entry for so many when it just wasn’t possible before.
Thanks for the kind words! I know not everyone has a budget to shoot higher on gear. It’s nice to hear things that sonically sound usable. I don’t think it’ll replace other high ticket mics but I do feel like it wouldn’t be a limitation for me to get a solid recording. Thank you for stopping my channel and interacting honestly!
I just bought the same mic and mine came with a metal shockmount. For the money I am pretty impressed. I think this is a great mic for anyone who is just starting out producing and needs a good versatile condenser.
I use it for tracking rock vocals. On bright side same to most condenser, but more mid-rangy and in your face compared to WA-87 for example. I don't know if preamps make a difference, but with API preamp GTZ76 is a winner almost every time. I have WA-87, TLM103, U47 FET and GTZ76 @@CarlMooreMusic
@@markmelrose-lq3hi I’ll have to try it out for sure! For me, the entire chain makes a difference. I typically track with some sort of comp and EQ on the way in.
I got one of these off the guy off ebay about 2 years ago and I always felt it was a really good mic for the price. For under $150, I can't think of any mics that sound better
Yea it doesn’t give me the typically “cheapo” mic vibe. There’s a few things I’d like to hear within it but I’m still impressed for the price point. Thanks for checking out the video, stopping by the channel and the interaction
The HA73 sounds nicer than the UA-610 Solo. What are your thoughts on the UA-610 Solo? What would you use it for? and what situation would you use it over the HA73?
I feel like those Pres are interchangeable on sources but the desired out come is what drives the use case. Bigger beefy tones, I like to use the ha73. Smoother saturation, I like to use the 610. But I honestly use them on similar sources… vox, bass, drums pianos/organ and coloring vst instruments. Thanks for this question!
You should try do a shootout vs a U87ai or if not some other higher end mics. I know you have other demo's, but would be neat to hear it vs other mics on the same performance/preamp etc!
That’s definitely in the plans. I just wanted to showcase the mic standalone on a few different sources. Appreciate you for checking out the video and commenting.
@@CarlMooreMusic Thanks bro! No worries! I couldn't believe how cheap these were when I saw them last year, and always been a bit curious. I've got a pretty good array of mic's luckily, but just thought I might be able to find 1 or 2 nice utility mic's in this company, and the owner seems really nice, sweet dude, and was really helpful!
@@jamescassidy4045 I’m in the same position. I’ve got an assortment of mics in my locker but if I find a solid sounding mic, I don’t mind adding it to my locker because I end up finding a use for it when I least expect it
I’ve heard your voice over a ton of different mics at this point & the GTZ definitely held you back. Your talent still made the song enjoyable, but it lacked the sparkle and detail of some of the other mics you reviewed. The GTZ seems decent for beginners & hobbyists, but it’s not suitable for artists with pro level talent & ambitions.
Gotta say I’m humbled by the kind words here and I appreciate/understand the perspective. I think this mic lacks the unwanted characteristics found in the majority of “cheap” microphones… but it does lack elements of higher end gear. I think this is attributed to what you’ve voiced as you listened. I would like to share some tests with more processing on the front which for me would include EQ. My videos and a lot of other videos demonstrating gear show the piece “raw” if you will and that can be only a partial truth to what would happen in a real-world situation. All and all, much appreciation for the kind words, thank you for stopping by the channel, and I’m grateful for the interaction.
Yea I saw it on their website and I’ve inquired with the owners to see if it’s still I production. When I talked to them, they didn’t mention it as an option of purchase.
It does. Temu u87 break down on high pitch notes same to any 3$ mic. GTZ87 sound great and balanced. I didn't try GTZ87+ version yet, but GTZ87 AI version sounds great on acoustic guitar and vocals.

Do you think this mic sounds better then the Rode NT-1 5th Gen. They’re both the same price & it’s all I can afford at the moment

Hey Carl, so apparently there is a multi pattern version of this mic its almost 600 though.
Yea I saw it on their website and I’ve inquired with the owners to see if it’s still I production. When I talked to them, they didn’t mention it as an option of purchase.
Same thing happened to me with the xlr cable I was forced to buy a new xlr cable after that happened
It’s crazy how raggedy that is.
They should certainly improve this design flaw
Have you tried their 251?
Is this GTZ87 the one with the upgraded RK47 capsule or the regular $150 one?
I believe it’s the upgraded capsule version.
The best part of this mic is made in the USA 🇺🇸
Which GTZ is best. GTZ U87 or GTZ U 87 +.
Does it sound better than the Temu U87 clone? Lol
I’m not familiar with the Temu 87 style mic. Haven’t had a chance to get my hands on it
@@CarlMooreMusic I’ve seen people buy that mic for $12 and surprisingly say it’s all right for that price point
It does. Temu u87 break down on high pitch notes same to any 3$ mic. GTZ87 sound great and balanced. I didn't try GTZ87+ version yet, but GTZ87 AI version sounds great on acoustic guitar and vocals.
It’s a different league microphone. Temu 87 is a toy mic for kids. GTZ87 definitely got a sound and could be a good solution for people on budget.
