      Personally, I like the idea of car designers having a bit more freedom.
      I'd say White or amber at front.
      Amber on side.
      Amber or red at rear.
      In my opinion, the red ones look better, and seem to grab my attention more.
      Also, because they usually implement the large brake light reflector, it's already a bright large space that can be utilized.
      Finally, the brake light doesn't phantom out the turn signal bulb (Here in the UK it's pretty common to have difficulty making out a turn signal lamp when the brakes are on, because the brakes are so bright).

    All turn signals should be amber like everywhere in the world except for the US. European legislation prohibits red turn signals with good reason, rear amber signals are much easier to understand from a distance. Clearly the person activating them is turning somewhere. As opposed to having to double check if the person with red turn signals in front is braking, turning or has a burnt out bulb.
    Another good idea US spec cars could adopt from European cars are rear fog lights. In case of low visibility, a car with these on is much easier to spot from a greater distance.

    • @ZBB8
      @ZBB8 3 года назад +3

      100% for amber turn signals and +100 for rear fog lights. Rear fogs are the huge saver during the thick fog, alway using them on European trips. I had to replace my rear lights on my USA VW juts to add amber turn signals and rear fogs.

      One interesting thing is that some European brands seem to be ditching them for North America. My V70 3.2 has both amber turn signals and a proper rear fog. Both our Audis (2016s) have rear fogs, albeit with red turn signals. However, my friends B9 (2018) A4 doesn't have rear fogs as far as I am aware. I understand they were there in 2017 but dropped for 2018 to save costs. It's a real shame and I agree rear fogs (as well as people being taught when to use them) should be mandatory. People here in Canada seem to turn them on by accident somehow.

    For turn signals and hazard lights, I only want amber turn signals in the back and separate from the brake lights, whether sequential turn signals or not. Amber turn signals and hazard lights are even brighter during heavy rain, snow, and fog. Creating an amber section in a red tail lamp lens costs more. If they can make it cheaper, they will. Also, cars that were designed without consideration of the American turn signal surface area requirement will find it easier to flash the entire assembly than to redesign the tail light cluster.

      @@canto_v12 yeah. This makes sense. But then again, international versions if US market cars already have amber turn signal (especially European and Asian brands). So wouldn't it cost more to have 2 separate designs instead of a single one? And as for surface area issue (like in Audis) couldn't they just make the turn signals non sequential to get around it? A different line of code for the taillights cant be that difficult.

  • @CarWhiz22

    I will never understand why American turn signals and hazards are often shared with the brake lights. It makes absolutely no sense. Having a separate amber signal as well as the brake light is so much clearer to see - and it clearly segregates the two functions. Having two red colours (with both sometimes using the same bulb) can cause confusion and hinders visibility IMO.

    • @DD-gz9ut
      @DD-gz9ut 3 года назад +5

      Very simple answer: cost.
      Instead of installing separate wiring and separate bulbs American car makers use the same wiring and bulb for both brake + turn signal functions.
      I completely agree with you, all turn signals should be amber, this makes it easier for drivers to understand what the person in front is doing. It is even worse at night when the tail lights are on. The red bulb goes from slightly on to fully on (multiple times) when the turn signals are activated. This is hard to decipher. Is the person in front braking, turning, has a bulb malfunction? Who knows...
