I would prefer dblue tapestop/glitch for tapestop effect because theyre far more simple than gross beat. You need to change the line curve in gross beat while you can just rotate the knob in dblue for changing the speed of the effects.

If not, you could try using a double curve as well, or even add more points to further customize the curve. If you play around with it enough, you should be able to get it how you want
It sounds like you have step editing on. Do you see the icons in between the pattern options and the time grid? One of them looks like a footprint (it's in between -4 and -3 on my grid). If you click that icon, it should allow you to edit how I do in the video

instead of creating two automaton clips, you can just create one automation clip of the gross beat volume. simpler & faster.
But that is less clean because you turn off the whole plugin. Instead link one automation clip to both variables.
Turning off the whole plugin saves RAM!

Theres also a effect plugin called Glitch 2. Quite easy to find and i just find it less tedious to just use that.

Make sure step editing is off in Gross Beat. It's one of the options to the left of the graph and the right of the pattern selector.
