A lot of what is in the interior is standard VW like the heater/air con/temperature controls, vents, SAt-Nav etc, engines, but I found the higher spec Passatt just nudged ahead for quality feel. That said you do pay for the VW badge a bit over the Skoda price but I liked both when I test drove them

Best thing about this car is they are not intentionally reducing space inside the car as some other brands do.
Like you said the previous version looked glumsy especially the rear but this one looks nice from every angle. Very nice review, I like how you make it seem like you do it almost without a script, car reviews on mainstream TV are too scripted and stiff, this is why youtube is the best!

I'm living in the irish republic and took out the Fiesta and Fabia on a test drive over the weekend. I was really impressed with both cars. The downside with the Fiesta for me, average female height but smallish feet, was getting the sitting position right - the distance for the pedal was fine but I felt a tad too close to the steering wheel; not a problem in the Fabia. The Fiesta just feels better put together, but it is close. The biggest problem here is that the EcoBoost 100PS is really not sold. I drove the 60PS and it was painfully under powered, great around town but frustrating out on the road (though probably explains the woeful overtaking here). I ended up getting a quote for the Titanium 75PS diesel, would anyone have deny experience of this one? Economically, it is hard to not choose the Fabia and the 75 BHP was adequately powered though I did get a quote for the 90 BHP to add a bit of omph.

A thorough, German style review of a thouroughly Germanic car! You have a new subscriber. Well done. Only Germans can do this kind of in depth reviews. Yes I know Skoda is Czech. What struck me in the video is that you drive very slowly (except on the Autobahn) and still had an average fuel consumption of 11.3 l/100km, which in my opinion is disappointing for such a modern car. It is big, but very modern. I think that was worth mentioning in the video.

Ronald de Rooij actually I first moaned about that but had to remove that sequence because it really went down a lot later on :) Still my expectation is about 8 / 9 litres in total with mixed use.

Wow, what a good and thorough review - thankyou! I'm a limo driver, and am considering the new Superb as my next car. Do you think it could seat three average sized adults in the rear comfortably? The reason for my concern is that I do not think the current model is wide enough for my work, but I'm hoping the new one will be.
***** Thanks! I think that the new Superb is the best price/performance choice for limo drivers. Offers sooo much space in the rear compartment and isnt expensive at all. I would say go for it!
+Autogefühl Well, it's here in Australia now. Whilst I agree that it could be used as a limo, it just doesn't give me the limo "feel" - I feel like I'm driving a small, and relatively noisy, car. But oh, that wonderful boot/trunk. I hope someone somewhere makes a more premium version of the Superb - make the whole car a bit longer, wider, and give it a quieter larger V6 and/or V8. I haven't given up on the Superb yet but it's looking unlikely, and if I do go with it, I suspect I'd have to lower my rates a bit.
+Greg Sullivan I've been for multiple test drives, and I'm very sad to say that I just don't think it drives like a limousine. There is significantly more tyre roar and/or "road rumble" than my current car (the Holden Caprice) especially when the road surface is even just a little bit coarse. The transmission can also be jerky at times, and I find it difficult to brake very smoothly. Thomas - if/when you come to Sydney, I'll take you for a drive in my Holden Caprice, and show you just how excellent a budget limousine can be - send me a message because I'm serious about this. The Caprice is going out of production soon, and it is a crying shame. Actually better yet - I'll let YOU drive it.

I don't exactly see VW Group's marketing logic here: the Passat, with a more premium badge, is more expensive, yet actually a less desirable car, and the Superb is a totally better buy. How does that affect VW sales?
Anwar Afhim Good point. Well, the Passat also looks very nice. Volkswagen has a better position in big corporation fleets. And I must say the interior of the Passat looks better to me than the Superb's. However, basically you are right and you get more car for the money with the Superb.
Anwar Afhim You get more value for money with a Superb, but Passat is still a better car in every way other than size. Not much better, but slightly better in every aspect is enough to make it worth more money.

I was lucky to have 2 Skoda Superb III's for 5 days of test driving. My new one will come in September. I chose 1.6 CRDI DSG SE Business trim level (not sure what that equates to compared with European trim level names). I tested the 2.0 DSG CRDI and the 1.6 Petrol - both in SE Business trim. I loved BOTH cars enormously and am very excitedly and impatiently waiting for my new one!

I'd go for Superb 2.0 TDI SEL Executive. I used to own VW Passat 1.9TDI 130bhp SE B5.5 &Passat 1.8T Sport B5&loved Skoda's Superb since the mk1 came out

No, it has 2.0 TSI engine. HEMI may get worse mpg, but this 2.0 TSI engine doesn't come near to it.
Excellent in-depth reviews, hard to find elsewhere. Your English is very fluent, but may I point out: 'sedan' is American English -> 'saloon' in UK. Ditto 'trunk' -> 'boot' in UK, 'combi' = estate, in UK. And watch out for the English TH sound !

Skoda is a popular brand in Europe for a good reason. However here in Australia the Skoda brand is let down by very low customer satisfaction due to having very few dealerships added to problematic and frustrating experience with dealers when problems arise. Local VW problems with the DSG transmission and subsequent recall did tarnished Skoda's image too.

very good review, very detailed, and has showed this car"s strongest point, premium feel car, which outclasses its oponnents with many, many clever solutions...outside it looks sharp and massive at the same time, and the interior is a little bit old-school, but it looks good enough. Until now , Mazda 6 was the only choice for me in this class, but now I would think twice, I just love the many clever deatails and solutions in Superb, big thumb up...

Nice review. I hate fake vortex wheels, another reason to go for the Style version. Perfect car to be chauffeur'd around discreetly and looking so much better than the disgraceful outgoing version.

This car is really on my shopping list, looks brilliant (even more in white).
Cant wait for the TSI with AWD prices (and the SW version).
Notes: About "progressive" steering, I dont think it's a sportiness feature... Real sports cars a usually prefer with direct steering (so no or nearly no assistance)
Bigger seats, I would disagree, taller back support might get in the way of some morphologies.
I wish they had placed the Satnav unit higher (and moved vents to its sides)
The speed/engine rpms meters aren't so nice (reminds me of Mercedes themes)
Quick questions:
- about the rear seats : are they ventilated too ? Or just heated (perforated leather gives me doubt)
- about the front seats : are they adjustable on the lateral support? (or just good enough by default)
***** Thanks for the feedback! Rear seats cannot be ventilated AFAIK, just heated optionally. Lumbar support can be activated if you have the highest equipped seats in the front.

Absolutely amazing car (L&K 280 4x4)
If you are in two minds about getting one of these, get one, you will not be disappointed.
(Running in - first 1000 miles below 4000 rpm - that's okay, it does 80mph at 2750rpm)

I would like to congratulate again for your great report about this superb. I am considering buying one of them . I have lots of doubts to buy a superb with a low equipment basis or an Octavia with a lot of equipment. For me priority is comfort and will get the DCC on both options. I will choose a diesel version 150 HP. Could you tell if the rear suspension will make the Octavia less comfortable and if it will have worst dinámica features in the drive. Is the Octavia much more noisier than the superb?

Hi. I increased my budget and planning to buy Skoda superb hatch. Do you think the DCC is worth the money? And is the ride quality really like high end Mercedes Benz?
The usual suspension is already very good. DCC is more for if you want to change your driving situation from time to time.
I have a combi now, am changing for a VW Touareg... all great cars, but need a heavier car to tow with now!
Actually, Skoda hasn't reach the selling amount 1m/y in the Chinese market yet, it just has sold 1m cars in total since it entered this market.

derbigpr500 nope skoda superb sells 4x more than passart in here india superb actualy triumphs passart in terms of looks build materials and also some cleaver features such as hackback back ,.value for money same case with octavia and jetta
Very nice car, it's looking so much better than the previous models. I'm glad that they have decided to to ditch that lumpy rear and just add a normal boot instead.

like the new Superb loads... and have test driven the 190 Diesel but having driven the Octavia VRs I am torn between two great Skodas - Thomas seemed to really like the Superb but like me something kept drawing him back to the VRs - like seats and progressive steering - if you had to pick one Thomas which one?
+Neil Smith Neil, you observed that very well. The RS seats are the better pick in general, especially if you are a tall person. If you are not, whatever, if you are, you ll be happier with the RS seats. And the progressive steering of the Octavia RS also rocks. I love the Superb exterior and would pick it from the design, however for driving I would pick the Octavia (RS). You wont make a mistake with either of those cars, but question is: Do you need the rear legroom?
Very nice review! I have the Superb2 - model, and beeing quite tall (194cm), I'm very interested in the headroom in the new version. Is it the same as the previous model, or has it improved?
In the Superb2, with the seat at the lowest setting, and the back a bit tilted - I just have enough headroom. In the back, I cannot fit - I have to bend my neck when sitting there - so it is impossible for anyone above 190cm to sit in the back. How is this in the Superb3?
jtryland101 Thanks! You ll be fine with the headroom as I have also shown in the interior part. Maybe leave out the panoramic roof to be sure. Without the panoramic roof, I am quite sure that will also work in the back. Check my interior video part again for that.

What about the DSG in the car that is dry and can not withstand the heat
Yes, its nitpicking, but I hate to see when the power symbol on the audio volumne knob turns with the knob. The sign loses its meaning. I always thought Citroen was the only manufacturer who saves some money here, sad to see such a detail in a middle to upperclass car. Btw. Great review as ever! But man, is it long ;) You could provide an index for it next time :)

***** It's just my personal preference, but in reviews I don't care much about the exterior, it's something I can get with my own eyes. I want to see the interior, the quality, infotainment, the space in the second row and the flexibility of the boot and of course I want to hear about the drive. So I'm always searching for the right parts - easy thing on desktop but much more fiddling on mobile devices.
Have you had the chance to check out the new sonata hybdrid (high trim) ? what do you think when you compare it to the superb ?
Hi I currently drive the Skoda Octavia would you say the Superb drives very similarly or is it a much better drive than the Octavia ?
a little less sporty but more sovereign
